What Insiders Are Saying
The incredible People Watching available at Balthazar makes scrunching into a tiny table and overpaying for brunch totally worth it. Say whatever you want about this place, you can’t take away the fact that the kitchen gets it done.
The food & service were excellent as usual. My only compliant the portions were smaller than they used to be. You should get more for the price.
Outstanding on all fronts. Menu could be improved with better clarity about which dishes contain wheat, dairy, etc.
Couldn’t fault one thing - good was excellent, service excellent and ambiance too. Will definitely return on another trip to NYC
Food was delicious and quick to come out - can be a bit overwhelming at popular dinner times with the noise level, but it was delicious and good service regardless.
Love this restaurant. I have been here twice and both times were great. Steak Frite is my favorite at this place. Service is wonderful but I do recommend reservations.
Inventive menu, but would have like to have seen more options
A group of us met for a birthday dinner. The waiters could not be more accommodating. The split dishes and were very attentive
Would definitely go again
Never go to NYC without having brunch at Balthazar
Wonderful. Sauces were very flavorful and brought out the best in the appetizers and main entre. Our waiter led us through our choices by offering his insights from working at Balthazar for 20 plus years. I ordered the escargot. He brought me toothpicks saying sometimes those creatures get stuck and need to be coaxed out. This will help. Fun. And what sauces! We chose a great wine together. It’s nice to have help in a new restaurant. Anyhow, this place is great. Enjoy.
Great French food. Great service. A bit loud, but the food was with it.
Cute artsy cafe
Love this place
You made our wedding dinner(post elopement) phenomenal!!..thanks so much!
Always go there when visiting New York. Last time was 2 years ago. Surprised the lunch menu has changed to basically a short order type menu. Not worth the $60.00 cab ride to get there. Too many great places in the Times Square area where we always stay.
Balthazar is one of New York’s best casual dining spots. The entire experience is fantastic. It’s fun and energized. Sophisticated, yet casual. It’s downtown cool with European flare. I love Balthazar. It’s a mood changer. A vibe setter. A better maker.
Always delicious food and great people watching at Balthazar.
Excellent food and service.
The perfect location for the perfect, downtown, Sunday brunch to entertain an overseas visitor.
We had a very nice Father's Day brunch at Balthazar. We did not have to wait to be seated and once we were able to order, our food did not take a long time. Portions are ample and the food was very good. We will go back.
The food was good but not great. And the prices were very very high which therefore makes the food not worth what we paid. The service was okay but I had ask several times for refills and to have the check. I would not recommend this spot.
We haven’t been to Balthazar in years. Not quite as remarkable as it was in the past with some special touches missing now.
Buen ambiente, la comida bien, pero no sorprendente
The venue is nice, the service is quite good, the food is fantastic, but... it was freezing! I dont know why, but this made us uncomfortable and we decided to leave as soon as we finished our desert.
Been here a few times in past visits to the city. Feels like they are sitting on their laurels a bit nowadays - atmosphere lacks warmth and food decidedly average - esp for the price. Disappointing first night experience back in the city
Fun scene. Food is very tasty and the service is very good. Great option in SoHo. Would go there again.
Balthazar is always a choice when we are in NY but now was different because we met Luis from México. So Nice and was a pleasure to be served by him and we will not forget. Thanks.
I made the reservation to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Since I couldn’t be with her, I wanted her to go someplace filled with special memories that we share. Balthazar’s was my first choice, and they didn’t disappoint. My two daughters went together, and the birthday girl was treated like a princess. Tbh, that is how we’ve always been treated there. The food was delicious and the iced lattes were superior. It was yet another delightful visit to this NYC gem!
Fathers Day Celebration
We have been to Balthazar multiple times. The service is always impeccable! The food is always well presented and delicious. We have tried about everything on the menu over the years and you can’t go wrong with anything. We see familiar faces each time we’ve been here. It says a lot about staff retention in an extremely cut throat competitive restaurant business.
Food and ambiance was perfect as usual. When paying I was told their system was down and they needed to charge me manually; ended up checking my bank statement to see that I had been charged 5 times for a total of $850. Had to call the restaurant 3 times before I was contacted by the general manager. He was very friendly but I was really disappointed to have had to reach out multiple times (and deal with unfriendly staff that did not even so much as apologize for their mistake when I called) in order to get the issue sorted. Love Balthazar but will not be returning for a while.
Alway a classic.
Incredible restaurant for date night and the food (steak frites) was delicious. The only downside was the tables were slightly closer together than ideal, but this is probably typical for any restaurant in NYC. I’d highly recommend this place!
La calidad y Servcio excelente ,la comida deliciosa ,el lugar ,ambiente ,todo espectacular, realmente quedamos encantados con Balthazar mega recomendado ,súper nice
Awesome experience for our trip to NYC with family and friends!
Always great in every way. A real treat every time!
Exceptional food and great service - always visit when we come to New York
Came here for dinner for my birthday. Great food, NYC scene, very lively atmosphere.
Visited for lunch. While still very good, I would have to say not up to their usual standards. It was extremely crowded so maybe that’s why, but I found the service to be a little lacking. The food was nothing special. I ordered oysters and a grilled ham and gruyere sandwich. To be perfectly honest, the sandwich was more akin to diner food.
Still very expensive. Maybe dinner is more appealing.
