Birch & Vine at The Birchwood Ratings and Reviews
Very good food and service. But it's a little loud inside (when full). Seating is inside, outside (sidewalk), or patio. Inside and outside are managed separately (two separate hostess stations) and The patio is managed by the inside hostess station. The patio is the best spot. Where ever you want, be specific in your reservation.
We were expecting more. The server clearly forgot to enter part of our order. The food wasn’t very good.
Even with a reservation, it took 30 minutes to seat.
Unfortunately the restaurant majorly overbooked themselves on 2/14. Our reservations were for 7:15 and we weren’t seated until 8:30 out in the “courtyard” although we requested inside seating with the reservation. This courtyard was an outside area behind a partition where extra tables were set up next to a supply closet and elevator. Did not seem like a restaurant of their caliber would ever really seat people out there on a regular basis. The service (Olivia) once we were seated was great and very attentive — nothing pertaining to this review was her fault. The food was ok at best — pork tenderloin was tough. Just absolutely was not worth the prices and after the wait, felt the evening out was certainly not worth the price and the wait and the trouble to rush home from work, get dressed up and drive downtown. On a special occasion like this, you don’t want to complain but how disappointing to have made reservations well in advance to avoid this type of a wait with tons of people waiting with you and complaining to the hostess. Then to be seated in a courtyard where it appeared they just set up 6 extra tables due to massive overbooking. If we hadn’t agreed to a courtyard table, we would have waited much longer I’m sure. We would have left but it was Valentines Day so where else on Beach would we have gone without waiting? So we stuck it out. I have never submitted a bad review of a restaurant — I just wont say anything. But I think this is well worth mentioning and reporting as I really felt this was a situation where a restaurant slammed in as many reservations as they could to take advantage of a special “dining out” holiday like Valentines Day. I just won’t be back.
We were there for Valentines Day. Obviously a strain on the kitchen. My filet was perfect but my wife’s Salmon was over cooked. Nevertheless we enjoy the place.
Our reservation was made two weeks in advance. I received a call the week before about our choice of in or outdoors. I requested inside since we were unsure of the weather. Upon arrival I told the hostess we would sit outside if it was convenient. We were told 'we requested outside and they were setting our table'. Well, they set a table for two for our party of 4. We watched as they tried balancing the table on the uneven sidewalk and they were maneuvering the shrubbery to hide the the idling cars in the valet parking line. We expressed our discomfort with the setup. We observed that all tables on the walkway were tables for two, not four. We were then turned over to the inside hostess. She explained that they were 'waiting for a table to open up. One table was having desert'. My husband asked 'if it would be 5 or 10 minutes?' The hostess then said rudely 'our reservation was changed and they couldn't do anything and requested us to have a seat and wait'. A short time later a manager came buy and said a table opened on the outside porch, which is lovely. The young lady who witnessed the rude hostess apologized and so did the manager. The experience was enough for us to realize we will not return.
As always, the Birch & Vine has high-quality, inventive meals and a delightful atmosphere. The food and drinks are lovely, and even at its busiest, the Birch & Vine is still cozy. The special Valentine's Day menu was thoughtfully arranged, but their usual fare is equally enticing. Treat yourself to a cocktail. Trust me.
There were 6 of us and we had a small room all to ourselves. The wait staff was amazing! Attentive, friendly and a great vibe from everyone we encountered. Food was wonderful! A great evening.
Menu had dramatically changed for the worse. Although it was still early in the evening, they had run out of a regular item on the menu. Took my new broker there. Embarrassing experience. Shame because that was a regular go to place for me.
We loved this restaurant when it first opened. Food, presentation etc...brought friends etc. Wedge salad for $14 was terrible- old lettuce very little bleu cheese and poorly presented. Bone in Rib Eye, also very disappointing. Like a $8 supermarket cut- thin and almost tasteless. We will unlikely go back, too many other good choices. Service was mediocre at best.
We were the only people seated in the inside dining room when we were seated. The server was very outgoing. But it wasn’t until we asked that we were told the catch of the day was sold out. We were told by several people that the menu was new but that didn’t excuse the dessert we ordered being so different than described. The manager came and apologized and didn’t charge us. The waitress did not know anything about the white wines. She offered us a taste which we appreciated but in this type of restaurant, staff should know the options.
As far as food goes, the wedge salad was disappointing and while the tuna was cooked well and presented beautifully, the accompanying vegetables were served raw and cold. Not mentioned on menu or by the server. The scallops were excellent
Just rather bland. Food was ok but we were at bar for Super Bowl and they would not turn off the music and turn on the sound for the game.
The menu was very limited. The food was good but not much of a selection.
Day boat was so dried out it was not eatable . Mgr comped it but food use to be great don’t know what happened
We had a party of 6 for a birthday. All 6 entrees had to be sent back for being over cooked and or cold. They still only got 5 out of 6 cooked properly. Manager's excuse was that they had a large party even though the restaurant was only half full. We had dined here before and it was excellent. Service was at best mediocre. Will not be going back.
We had another terrific "Tuesday night" meal at Birch and Vine. I will bet that any night of the week the Birch and Vine is excellent, but go on Tuesday nights for the half-price appetizers and the half-price bottles of wine. What an excellent opportunity to try a more expensive wine than one is used to.
First, we were seated at a wonderful table--the best in the restaurant (and don't even think I am going to mention its number; I want to keep it for us on Tuesday nights). I will share our server, though. Alex, was just wonderful. She was attentive and friendly, but also let us sip our wine for awhile (after we asked to just enjoy sipping before ordering). She also smiled when we only ordered appetizers (because on a Tuesday night, it seems absurd to order anything else, especially when the crabcake w/green tomato and the special scallops appetizer are so good).
We were celebrating a birthday and a business success from earlier in the day, so the excellent meal was particularly appropriate. And no, we did not tell Alex of the birthday, as we know she would have brought us something sweet, and I was spending the month of January eating no sugar . . . and did not want to blow my perfect record on the final night.
Service was slow. The crab cake was very good, Salmon and Tile fish was ok. Our friends had Filets , both said steaks weren’t seasoned well. Overall it was ok. Drinks were good.
This was my first time at Birch and Vine, but I have been to the Canopy (the lounge area on the roof) previously. The restaurant had a very cool scene, the ambiance was good, but it was too loud. Not a huge selection of dishes or alcohol, and very pricey for what you get. The crab cake appetizer was excellent, but small. The ravioli is appetizer size, not for a meal. I had the tuna which was good. Overall a good experience, just be wary of the limited menu options and the noise level.
Loved the restaurant. Great food and great service. However, our experience was deminished due to noise level. My husband and I were sitting side by side and literally had to shout at each other to be heard.
Our server, Thomas, was wonderful! Superb evening, wonderful food and Tom, the hotel manager , is a true gem!
Our server had no personality, was not friendly, and rarely came to our table. We complained, and several other staff came to check on us after, but never our server. The dining room was full of large parties (tables of 14+) so the room was noisy and appeared half-empty because of the tables being pushed together. It felt like we were a table of 4 being put into a room reserved for a corporate dinner.
There was a table in the middle of the room that were so loud and obnoxious. All through our dinner. I can not believe the management did not do something about it.
I have been to your restaurant several times for the Tuesday night special. I was very disappointed that you no longer have the onion soup. I tried the butternut squash soup and could not finish it because it was too sweet.
The atmosphere is always amazing there. The food usually is outstanding. This particular occasion it was good but not as good as it usually is. They had a busy weekend and were out of a lot of things when we got there. That being said I love going there.
Great upscale dining experience.
I never feel bad about spending extra to get good food, however none of the food served tonight was worth the amount spent on it, and I didn’t even foot the bill. My entire group felt the same way. Otherwise it is extremely loud and dark, my father needed to use his light on his food to see the menu. When places are to dark it makes me wonder, what are they hiding with the low lights? Dirt? 🤔 Service was good, but we will not eat here again.
My girlfriend & I felt special & pampered as we dined. Our occasion was honored by our wonderful server, Anna. (get together after 18 yrs). It was a fabulous restaurant & we loved our brunch! BV Benedict was delicious!
Best restaurant ever in saint pet Area, took my wife there for anniversary, the food was awesome, great customer service, fancy place to go. Im planning to visit again. Good job! Love it
Very pricey. Limited lunch menu. Very small portions.
Great romantic or special occasion place! Food is excellent and service too!
Average and uninspired. Several dishes undercooked and sent back. Nice desserts though, so not a total waste.
The bisque, bread and salads were delicious. But the entrée, which was Black Grouper over noodles, was heavy-handed with the too-hot Kimchee sauce and took away from what would have been a delicate seafood meal. The bananas foster for dessert was perfect!
The service was great and the food was AMAZING!!!
Will be back again for sure.. Was a great date night!
Service started slowly but caught up and was good. Seafood special was outstanding. Good drinks and wine. We were there on a quiet week night. Would definitely go back.
Family in from CO had a Fabulous New Years Eve dinner!! Starting off 2018 right. LOVED everything about it❤️
Came here for New Years dinner, and was underwhelmed. While understandably it was a holiday evening, the food was just boring bland and overcooked. We ordered the French onion soup, Caesar salad, Day-boat catch and New York strip. Hoping to give them another chance on a slower night but was let down by the food.
Great New Year’s Eve dinner
Canopy is wonderful! Perfect start to our New Year’s Eve celebration. Prefix dinner and menu choices were great! Enjoyed our evening very much— service was very good considering it was a very busy night!
Worst NY strip steak I have ever had.
Salmon and shrimp came without shrimp. Waitress brought out one shrimp after being notified the shrimp were missing.
The bananas foster came out wrong.
There are much better options in St. Pete and Tampa at this price point.
