I really enjoyed Carnivale!! Very colorful and a exciting feel. DJ played good Latin music and the other entertainment was good also. The food is very flavorful and delicious as were the drinks. I can't wait to return, but this time with more people.
Loud house trans music was over the top. Couldn’t really talk or enjoy my company. Much different than the last time. Would not return.
Carnivale always delivers! It is a great visual experience and the food is always delicious! This cigar dessert is always a fun way to end the night!
Carnivale is a very pretty and nice restaurant. The food and drinks are amazing. The entertainment was nice as well. We will go back again!
Great service and tasty food.
A little disappointed to have a reservation and be seated late on a Monday of all nights. We sat there for about 15 minutes before a server came over and complained how busy they were with not enough servers. Then he took our drink order.
When I asked if the seafood sampler was portioned for two as a appetizer or entre I was told “whatever you want it to be.” I proceeded to ask about the seafood bar and most of the items on the board were out.
Our entre came out with almost all scallops and two small tortellini. The proportion was off- at the end of our meal our waiter told us they substituted in more scallops because they had run out of tortellini. Although I appreciate the value of extra scallops, it wasn’t as much an entre as a pile of scallops and two tortellini. Although the flavor was good, it should have been taken off the menu.
It was expressed that they were having a busy night, but unfortunately that doesn’t change the experience. We probably won’t return anytime soon, but maybe at some point we will give it another try.
Celebrated our anniversary, enjoyed it very much. Food was delicious!! We will return.
Supposed to be carnival atmosphere with performers but nothing was happening. Disappointed Food wasn’t the best either.
What a find! It was my first time and I was not disappointed. The service was excellent. Our server, Ramon, was very professional and personable. Even the bus-person was very personable. The food was excellent. Mimosas all around! We tried the Salmon Toast, the Bacon-wrapped dates, and the Ropa Vieja. All were delicious. Everyone loved their entres. I had the Carnitas Omelette. The egg was perfectly cooked! Just as fluffy as it could be. The Brunch Bowl, Chicken and Waffles, and the Wagyu Burger were enjoyed by my friends. The Chicken and Waffles comes out in an unexpected arrangement, but you get the hang of it! My friend who had it all but licked the plate! The music playing in the background was the sound track of my childhood and was a healthy mix of 70s and 80s music. I will gladly return.
Food was amazing! Loved the decor. Service was great. Our party of 4 was from Texas, Boston, and the middle east. We all would go back.
The food was excellent - however, even though we’d had a reservation in place for over a week, they placed us in a med-large side room by ourselves. Eventually one other table filled, but we felt very disconnected from the restaurant’s otherwise amazing “experience” in the main room.
Thank you for making my birthday very special, great food and pleasant atmosphere.
This Place was Amazing... The food, the drinks and the atmosphere alone.. I will definitely be back
I have wanted to come here since they opened and finally made it. We all loved it. The decor was great, service perfect. But most important, the food was amazing.
It would be a great experience to have an authentic South American entertainment.
Best experience!!! The Food Was Great!!! The Dinks Were Also Awesome!!!
I was there for my husband's birthday we just got married in July and I was excited to spend the evening with him. We came in 5-10 minutes early and I told the hostess we will be at the bar waiting and asked if she had my note she replied, "yes a birthday". As I'm waiting I get an email from open table saying you missed my reservation. I go to the front desk and she says, "I called you, you didn't answer." I replied, "No you didn't call me and I was at the bar." She tells me that there is a table ready now and she can seat me (with an attitude). Then the hostess next to her says, "that high top was for them." We go inside and I see the table I asked for big seats and right by the action. I was upset but tried not to ruin my husband birthday. I asked for great seating and did not get it. I expected to be spoke with politeness and did not get it. We did enjoy our meal, but I'm not sure if I'll return back. I really didn't appreciate being spoke to that way. I did not get loud with her and I know that work can be tough, but not to a customer. She knew it was my husband birthday ( I confirmed before going to the bar) and a little consideration would have been great for me. I just hope you do better for the next person, cause when you spend over $200 in a facility you expect good service from the front of the house to the back.
Would have been a great time except it was SO LOUD. You have to scream at each other from across a small table. Definitely detracted from the experience. The music is up full blast and it feels somewhat like a club. Not a good place for conversation
We went to Carnivale for my birthday. The food was outstanding; the service very good. The atmosphere like the food was bright and festive.
If you are looking for a quiet intimate dinner, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Carnivale.
But for a fun splashy evening, definitely check it out.
Attention to Detail: C-
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and wanted something different. The ambiance was excellent and the decor was breathtaking. Check-in waa a breeze and we were seated promptly. However the hostess could have selected a much better seating choice since our reservation stated “Anniversary.” We were placed near a busy walk area at a table for four. It was only the two of us and very UnRomantic. I would have much rather preferred a table for two since it was our wedding anniversary. Also, our waiter’s facial expression was unnecessarily disappointed when I declined his recommendation from the menu. I sort of felt uneaay after that. Overall, great food and great decor. Attention to detail could have been better especially for the cost.
Food and service was excellent!! It was our first time at Carnivale and we were so pleased with everything. Our waiter took the time to explain everything on the menu!! The drinks and food are amazing!! I will be back!!
This place was big, loud, and bustling, even at 5:30 midweek. That said, the food was good, somewhat creative and there seemed to be options for most types. You could eat on appetizers alone since they are generous portions. The tres leches cake was really tasty-that was what I came for and I wasn’t disappointed. I would recommend to others.
Great food, great service, delicious food and beautiful ambiance!
This place is very spacious. Main dining room has a ceiling at least 20' high. VERY decorated! The food is outstanding - however portion sizes are so large that sharing is a must! This means you and your partner have to agree on what you want. This could be a problem. Enabling "half orders" for some items could help to bring me back.
Celebrated Chicago Marathon finishes for both my daughters and a birthday just on Sunday. Best advice I took from friends to visit this restaurant - vibrant, hip restaurant - attentive service. Food was outstanding and yes, the hostess, gave us an "appetizer on the house" for my daughters' accomplishments! By the way, the cotton candy martini is a must to order!!
Came to celebrate the wife's birthday. I let them know ahead of time about her allergies to fish and shellfish and they were very mindful of the fact. They also asked about the occasion and seated us at a special table with plush high back chairs, very nice. Our server named Ramon was very attentive to our needs and provided excellent service throughout the meal, not to mention that he also arranged a very nice birthday surprise of cotton candy and an ice cream/gelato chocolate dome. The combination of excellent service and great food is what keeps us coming back.
This used to be a great place to have dinner but how times have changed. I had the worst waiter in the restaurant I saw him 5 times, he come to my table 20 min after we were seated. The cotton candy martini tasted like diluted rubbing alcohol not worth it at all. I got the wrong dish at first which I just should have kept because it looked better than what I got. I had the churrasco which was an overpriced piece of meat it had no seasoning and it was undercooked, it was almost raw most like because they were just trying to get it out since they made a mistake in my order. I rarely do this but I had to send it back because the bloody taste was too much for me. Then they charged me a 20% service tax? I don't think that is even legal. I should have said something but it was my husband's birthday and I just wanted him to have a "good" dinner. However, I know why my waiter did not care to give me a better service he would get a tip no matter what. I think that something has got to change otherwise people will stop going, it was a Saturday night and the place was not as full as it used to be. Needless to say you won't see us there again.
I loved Carnivale! New favorite restaurant in Chi-town. Great food, great atmosphere, loved the colors, art and interior decorating!
Great food and drinks
The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly
Ask the waiter for suggestions. They know the best options!
I love it!
It was a wonderful way to spend a night out. We got there early and enjoyed happy hour at the bar. They kept trying to push a certain drink, and ended up bringing one over. We did not like it though. Luckily they followed up with us in it instead of just charging us. Overall, great experience and we will be back!
Our server was Ramon Martinez, and he was literally the best server I have ever had. As a D of O. Of a restaurant group, I appreciate his professionalism and attentiveness. He sets the standard for service. The owner was in that night showcasing what seemed like some new entrees to his friends. He also came over and introduced himself and thanked us for coming out. Top notch guys!
Had a great business dinner with clients. But we ended the meal with an off the menu desert that was amazing. Chocolate Cigar with Rum Ice Cream.
The food is always amazing. Can’t go wrong. I dream about their guacamole
A lot of fun from start to finish. I love the 80's Brunch was worth the trip. Waffles and chicken, bacon wrapped dates, and a chocolate dome to cap it off. Our server was great. Friendly and informative. His tip on the drinks made me a repeat customer. The decor is great. Really enjoyed ourselves.
The restuarant was awesome! Cheap valet parking. Will be back again soon.
colorful and inviting. ropa vieja and grilled octopus = delicious. main course scallops, arroz mariscos and sea bass special = excellent. desserts - coconut cake and Javi's tres leches = oh yeah. plus, floor show!
