Have always love Chaplin. They did a great job of accommodating COVID restrictions. Delicious as always
I thought this was a Japanese restaurant when I booked it on Open Table but it’s more like a noisy pub. It was fine but not at all what I expected and very loud. They followed social distancing but it wasn’t as safe as what I’m used to down in Penn Quarter with the plexiglass etc.
Very nice food and the both was tasteful. I would go again. I would say that if you like pork the. This restaurant is perfect for you. I don’t eat pork so I was limited or had to pay extra for chicken.
I went for my birthday.. the service was lacking... the food was super greasy.. the only good thing to order is the Ramen.. I wouldn’t order anything else..
Waiter was cold to my party while super enthusiastic interacting with other tables. Second round of appetizers came with check.
Nice patio scene with great drinks and food.
This was the worst ramen I have ever had in my life.
Second time here, amazing ramen and drinks. Everyone’s friendly. Food comes out fast. Efficient overall and they show football on Sunday nights now which is a great addition to this hang out spot
Waiter went missing a couple of times. The appetizers took forever to come out then came out same time as main entree. Portion is less with new plastic bowls but charged the same price. This is my boyfriends favorite place so since he started a new job I decided to take him here and it was not the same experience.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, very good food. Will come back.
I’ve always had great experiences at Chaplin’s. This was my second time dining indoors since COVID and while I don’t plan on dining indoors in the future, I must admit that Chaplin’s practices a system that made me feel safe. All of the dining ware and utensils are single use, seating areas are at least 6 feet apart, and all staff wore masks properly.
Our appetizers were delicious - I had the dumpling with chicken and shrimp, deep-fried and my best friend had the wontons. The ramen never disappoints. I usually get the Stamina Spicy which I love but this time I tried the Chaplin A.S.S. and it was delicious! I always add corn and an egg to my ramen - perfection! I almost forgot to mention the drinks. Most cocktails are on draft. I forgot the name of my cocktail but it was one of two of their frozen cocktails and it wasn’t the green one (lol). So good!
I enjoy this spot and visit here frequently more so for the appetizer (the fried chicken and gyoza) and the drinks (the purple frozen drink) than for the actual ramen. Don't get me wrong the Ramen is good as well, but I think if not for the apps and drinks I would frequent other spots such as Jinya for Ramen alone. The atmosphere is young and hip and the service is OK. I will definitely be visiting again.
Our table wasn’t ready when we got there but once we sat down the experience was awesome, I will say that the server was a little overwhelmed because of the amount of people he had to attend to.
Love everyone that works at Chaplin’s. It’s never a bad experience here-everyone is literally working their hardest to make sure the guests are taken care of and it shows. Majors kudos to Chappys
Great dining experience. I appreciated the beautiful day that my colleague and I chose to dine for our business meeting. Choplin was great! Will definitely be back
Chaplin’s is the best
Loved the food, but there is one drink where they burn rosemary that was so overpowering.
We love Chaplin’s. The service and the food is great. The dumplings are amazing also.
We are very frequent visitors to Chaplins as it is a block from our place. The service is generally good. My only feedback is portions seem to be inconsistent. I generally get the same dish and it can be filled nearly to the brim or it could be 2 inches of clearance. It varies from visit to visit. The music volume tends to be a bit to high for the size of crowds in the place. The overall volume gets louder as people try to talk over the music. Aside from that I highly recommend the place.
After wanting to try Chaplin for years, I found it a disappointment. The cocktails were excellent, and the shumai pretty good, but it went downhill from there. We ordered the hot pot, which is bisected, so you’re supposed to be able to get two different broths; we chose veggie and miso. But half an hour later, we were told that the kitchen would only do one broth, inexplicably. So we settled on the veggie broth, and specified twice that we wanted the fish cakes included. Another half hour passed (!) before the pot arrived, and we eventually realized that it contained no fish cakes. Well, between the hour wait for our food, the changed order, and the missing ingredients, it was a bit of a fiasco. The server comped our drinks as an apology, but still. We won’t return.
I would definitely recommend going but make reservations! The food was good, we ordered the Chaplin ramen and the pork gyoza. It wasn’t amazing but on par with the other restaurants I have been to. My only real complaint was that it took 40 minutes for us to get our bowl of ramen!
Always love the food.
Food was fantastic as always and the waiter was great too!!
We made reservations on opentable for 10:30pm. We arrived on time. The server/bartender took our drink and appetizer order and that went fine. We waited for him to return to take out dinner order which he eventually did - he even made a suggestion for the Ramen special which he had to go back and get the menu for. He sold us on the special, but as soon as he was about to walk away, he said “sorry- it’s 11:04. The kitchen is closed.” He never even checked with the chef if he could order Ramen four minutes late since it was his fault. He comped the one beer and buns appetizer, but we wanted ramen so we left and had to find another place to eat dinner at 11:30pm.
Loved our waitress she was great! The food is always perfect.
Overall Chaplin's was great. My wife and I have been several times and the ramen is great. We tried the Drunken Masters (alcohol infused dumplings) for the first time and they were delicious. However, my wife had the worst glass of wine either of us have had at a restaurant, so I'd stick to beer or cocktails.
We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a great time! The food and sake we ordered were absolutely delicious and Anais took great care of us!
Chaplin's is my favorite restaurant in DC. Everything is delicious, from the drinks to the ramen. I highly recommend the Chaplin buns as an appetizer, and the stamina spicy is my favorite of the entrees.
Super super loud but a great place - love the ramen and drinks
It was good food, service could have been better. We were forgotten a lot. The waiter took care of a drink to recover that however it would have been a better dinner if service was better. Other than that great place and food was amazing.
As always, the service and food were excellent. I recommend Chaplin for all occasions whether that be a date night, business dinner, catch-up with friends, etc.
I would definitely recommend their hot pot experience if you have been before but would like to have a different experience. The bartenders, servers, and management are all really friendly and attentive. I will continue to happy hour here every week as it is my favorite neighborhood spot :)
It was my first visit during restaurant week . It was very busy and energetic (loud). I enjoyed the Dan Dan men
Went at 4pm on a Saturday with a reservation. I'm really glad we made one as there would've been a wait. The ramen is absolutely fantastic and the best I've had in DC. The ever popular "The Cure" cocktail was also a nice treat as it's topped with rosemary the server sets on fire for display. The overall ambiance is nice if you're fortunate enough to get seating upstairs as they play Chaplin movies on a loop throughout the second floor. Downstairs, the tables are cramped and the bar is very loud so not the most ideal spot for a date, but the food, service, and drinks are all top notch!
Love this place. I'm in desperate need of ramen and need to visit again soon.
Great food! Server was very friendly and helpful with helping us order the right spice level and amount of food! Love the artwork and the vibe! Plus amazing cocktail selection!
Great date night spot! Food and ambiance are perfect - would recommend for young couples or groups as the music can be a little loud.
My boyfriend and I went during restaurant week. Our table was running a few minutes late, which is fine, we’re never in a hurry, so we went to the bar area. A little loud a busy for my liking but I could see myself having a great time sitting at the bar, or a high top table, with some friends. Once our table was ready our service was on point. The server checked out IDs and noticed that my boyfriends ID was about to expire. What a surprise, servers never actually look at the IDs expiration. Our food took a little longer than I had expected but maybe I was just impatient and hungry. The quality though was great. After eating my boyfriend and I stacked our plates as we always do, working in the industry it just becomes habit. Our server noticed and asked us where we work and added an industry discount. 10/10 service and food. We will be back.
Drinks aren’t nearly as good as the food and worry more about being ‘creative’ than they do about how they taste. Stop torching rosemary at the table. It smells weird and doesn’t add anything to the experience but does smell across the whole restaurant.
The ramen here is wonderful and the drinks are fun. It’s a loud atmosphere. It’s fun for a friends night out.
