- GG. MichaelNew York City •13 reviews5.0Dined 7 days agoI'm always delighted with longevity in the NYC restaurant realm. Cafe Luxembourg goes back to late 1980s! Like many, it's part of a group of restaurants. Had not been there since sometime between 1987 & 1989 when I was working at nearby Lincoln Center's NYC Opera & MET Opera. I don't recall the food from then, but did like the place. I was given a Christmas gift certificate, so I took a dear friend for a much belated birthday dinner last evening. The reception staff & service staff are wonderful & really excellent. It was packed inside & quite boisterous. It was also a rather warm & humid & rainy evening and they have really nice outdoor dining pavilions, so we opted to let go of our indoor table to site outside, which was both more comfortable with a slight breeze and more kind for conversation. I had not seen my friend from Italy since Dec. 2024, so I was happy for the more quiet & comfortable outdoor seating. From our cocktails thru all courses & a glass of wine each, everything was terrific. The appetizers & lentil soup we shared were delicious (GREAT ZUCCHINI FRIES & AIOLI DIP!!). We had a delicious steak tartar & wonderful crusty bread as well to start. We both hankered for a steak, so we opted for the daily special menu filet mignon with option of salad or frite. We both chose the superb frites with more of the aioli & ketchup for dipping. I also got a small pitcher of garlic butter for my filet. Both of our filet mignon were cooked perfectly seasoned rare & medium rare for us. The side of sauteed mushrooms was wonderful. We were both well satisfied & skipped dessert/coffee/tea. It was a delightful & delicious dining experience. Our server, Alex, was excellent.More infoCafe Luxembourg$$$$• French American• Upper West Side•4.8

The food was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor, and you can really tell they care about quality. The service was just as amazing ,everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere feels warm and comfortable, making it the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. Definitely one of those spots where both the food and the people make the experience memorable.More infoBarking Dog Hell's Kitchen$$$$• American• Hell's Kitchen•4.6
