Excellent(126)

• Moroccan • Marylebone
Centrally located in London’s West End, Original Tagines is a Moroccan restaurant with an intimate atmosphere and wholly authentic food. Praised by critics from The Independent, Time Out and The Guardian Guide, Original Tagines has a reputation which makes pre-booking a must. It’s a small, simply put together restaurant with a hint of the East in the tile and wrought iron décor and a tendency towards the romantic thanks to flickering candle lighting and understated, helpful service. Wallet-friendly, the menu is entirely traditional but with a touch of contemporary influence in the presentation of dishes which focus on the light spicing and delicate balance of sweet and savoury common to North African cookery. An almost entirely Moroccan wine list maintains Original Tagines’ authenticity, raising it above more expensive themed restaurants in the area.

- Permanently closed - Fantastically fun and buzzy Moroccan restaurant and bar. Newly refurbished to a high standard in summer 2013, the charming restaurant looks out to an al fresco dining area, where Ayoush's renowned shisha and Moroccan tea are expertly served. Downstairs there are wonderfully decorated 'caves', perfect for group dining and private hire. This area has a wonderfully smart, modern Moroccan look and an intimate Club/bar atmosphere including belly dancers and late night DJ at the weekends. One thing not to be missed are the unique cocktails made exclusively here. The food is recognisably of the region (tagines, mezze, couscous) with a seasonally changing menu that includes some interesting twists on Moroccan flavours. No matter what the weather in London, Ayoush promises a traditional North African warm welcome and friendly service, making it a favourite haunt of celebrities, Londoners and tourists alike.

• Moroccan • Shepherd's Bush
Run by Abdel and Frances Boukraa – he hailing from Djerba, Tunisia, she English born and bred – Adam’s Café is a thriving family affair which has grown over the years to become one of Shepherds Bush’s most popular restaurants. A café by day and a restaurant serving North African cuisine by night, Adam’s Café is a bustling local hub, informal and authentic, decorated in mosaics and cheerful colours. It may serve the biggest and best breakfast on Askew Road but this is no greasy spoon. Visit in the evening and find yourself greeted by the spice infused aromas of Tunisia and Morocco. The menu consists simply of couscous dishes alongside grills and tagines, each based precisely on Abdel’s experience of home cooking. You really won’t find a more authentic taste of North Africa in the capital.
