Del Ray Cafe
We brought our family (including two little girls) for brunch yesterday and everything was wonderful, food, service, it is one of my favorite restaurants.
The restaurant was full, so the noise level was very high. The food and service more than compensated.
our first time at Del Ray cafe and we loved it! I was celebrating a birthday and it was what I had hoped for. I was a previous patron of La Bergerie and was curious how the transition went. I love the homeyness of the cafe and the food was excellent. Service very attentive- a few glitches but nothing impactful. We will come back
Our first dinner there, but we’ve also had breakfast/lunch. Cesar took great care of us at lunch, and remembered us a few days later at dinner. Service was excellent, and he food was very good. Venison was perfectly cooked medium rare, with delicious sauce and puréed sweet potato. The short ribs were luscious. The snapper special was cooked perfectly. Carafes of the house red blend worked for all of us. We shared two desserts among the four of us.
Overall, a lovely evening. The kitchen smells were the only downside mentioned by our guests...not obnoxious but noticeable.
Very creative and delicious selections. Flexible brunch or lunch. We enjoyed the homemade ahi tuna, burger, beet salad, vegetable quiche. The vegetable quiche was not a pie crust and low carb! Best vegetable quiche I have eaten accompanied by fruit and lettuce. My favorite sides. Definitely will meet my girlfriends there again! Service was amazing! Attentive but not intrusive. Charming atmosphere!
My rotisserie chicken was really dry. The heirloom beet salad was wonderful.
We had all of our party there no less than 5 mins after our reservation start time but it took 20 minutes to seat us. I understand that there is a flow for later morning reservations but we were just left there waiting w the impression it would only be 5 mins before we would be seated and it was much longer. Perhaps just keep the guest informed more on the progress of resetting the table.
Excellent food, great service in a renovated older home just around the corner from Mount Vernon Ave. The vibe is casual, friendly and the menu is terrific. Went with friends who all enjoyed their meals and appetizers which included Burgundy Snails, Peel and Eat Shrimp, a fantastic salad with Blue Cheese, Apples and Walnuts and I really thought my French Onion Soup was fantastic. The main courses were very good and included scallops and mussels. I'm not big on seafood so I enjoyed the tenderloin steak which was tender and flavorful. We topped the meal off with a couple of different souffles which were shared among four. Servings were large, so were the martinis! All in all a great, fun local spot that is definitely worth a visit, especially if you like French-themed food.
The Del Ray Cafe is a true Neighborhood Gem -- fortunately located in our new neighborhood! From the delicious locally baked bread, through the creative and tasty main dishes, the plentiful sides and of course including the reasonably priced wine of the house, this place deserves its many excellent reviews. The space is warm and homey; the tables are comfortably spaced; and perhaps best of all, our waiter Abdel was the model of attention to detail, efficient service, and warm neighborhood hospitality. We will return to the Del Ray Cafe, and recommend it highly to all.
Everyone is wonderful so nice!! Food is always amazing
Went for lunch and would go again for lunch and other meals. Cute restaurant. Ate upstairs. Was a bit noisy due to 2 nearby tables. Generally tables are spaced well and the place has a few rooms for dining. Service was good and helpful. The French baguette that was brought to table in the beginning was fresh, very good and just the way it should be...crisp crust on the outside and soft on the inside.I had the burger which was delicious and loved the skinny crisp French fries. Server kindly offered to bring ketchup (honored the American habit) without a blink. My friend had the ham crepe which she said was scrumptious too. Our coffee cups were refilled frequently but not intrusively. We splurged and shared a dessert. The profiteroles 3 puff pastry filled with vanilla ice cream, drizzled withBelgium Chocolate Sauce with hints of raspberry sauce on the plate. Despite being full, we ate every last bite. Lovely find in Del Ray. Next time we will see if we can be seated in one of the other rooms if too noisy. Sorry I didn’t discover this place earlier, but so happy to find it now.
Really good food, fabulous seasonal cassoulet, generous, fresh beet salad, interesting wines by the glass. We really enjoyed our meal! We had been told that the first floor might be perfect for us since we had a few hearing issues among the group of four, and most restaurants involve missing bits of the conversation. We reserved there, which is a small dining room with seating for about a dozen people, and were the only people seated there. I think most people prefer being seated upstairs for the buzz, but the lower level was perfect for our purposes, and we enjoyed ourselves. In fact we plan to go back this evening with other friends.
We dined earlyish, at 6, and there was plenty of space in the parking lot at that time.
Waiter was awesome. Food was delicious.
This was a favorite restaurant at one time. But this last visit was not pleasant. After completing our meal and enjoying conversation and coffee, we were asked to leave because the restaurant only has 48 tables and there were others waiting to be seated. My family and friends will not be returning.
Great service and great food. We will return as always.
Food is always fabulous and the service delightfully friendly and attentive.
Best French Onion soup in N. VA.
Mussels and escargot also top shelf.
This is one of the best restaurants in Del Ray. I highly recommend it.
The Del Ray Cafe is a neighborhood gem. The excellent regular menu items are always supplemented by additional in-season specials. While all of the French bistro entrees are terrific, the kitchen staff excels with seafood. Save room for dessert - and order the souffle or the chocolate beignets in advance!
Terrific service and great food. Really enjoyed the dinner. I'd highly recommend. You're a bit cozy with your neighbors, but that's part of the ambiance of DRC
Everything perfect as we expected!
Primarily imaginative slight twist on familiar french dishes. Very comfortable environment.
I'm torn. The sea bass was great. And my friend enjoyed the scallops. But. Part of the plate was supposed to be roasted potatoes. And they did not appear. And the waiter did not notice. Eventually I flagged down the waiter who shrugged and brought a belated serving of the missing potatoes but by then the meal was over.
At these prices and in a restaurant of this type, one expects and deserves better.
The Del Ray Cafe is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that is well worth the drive if you don't live in the neighborhood. The food and service are excellent without being fussy. The atmosphere is cozy without feeling cramped. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Alexandria.
Went to Del Ray Cafe for Valentines Day (actually the Saturday after VD). They extended their special Valentines menu through Sunday since VD was in the middle of the week. Their special menu and their regular menu were both available so it didn’t feel like the usual holiday restaurant hijacking. The food was great and the service was outstanding. DRC always lives up to its reputation as a cut above. We had the lobster special and the cassoulet with beignets for dessert and all was delicious. Highly recommend DRC for any occasion, especially if it’s a special occasion.
My only issue was the air conditioner blew directly on our table. We sat upstairs in the room on the left on the left wall in the middle. Del Ray Café is one of our favorite restaurants and we will gladly return.
Great Food and Great service at a price that is a fantastic value in the DC Metro area. Our favorite place by far in Alexandria.
My favorite Alexandria restaurant is the Del Ray Cafe. Food is delicious and well presented and the staff all care very much about the quality of customers’ experiences. I enjoy eating there and I also enjoy swinging by after work for a take-out roast chicken with potatoes, baguette and bottle of white burgundy. I also like the casual and elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. Well done DRC!
Food and service were both outstanding. This was my third visit overall. We were there for breakfast. I had the lobster eggs Benedict on the special and my friend had the crab eggs Benedict. We shared a side of potatoes. Everything was outstanding and such kind people work there. I recommend Del Ray Cafe with no reservations. Will be back as soon as I can.
We had a lovely Valentine’s dinner last night at Del Ray Cafe. As always, the food, the service and the ambiance were top notch!
We are return and will continue to be return customers.
The steaks are the best I've eaten. They are very accommodating for gluten-free dining. Their wine list is excellent.
All the food was excellent! Dessert Soufflé, beignets, cassoulet, fried calamari, house red wine, sweet potato fries, charred Brussels sprouts.
Sat on ground floor; a bit too noisy.
I was there fore lunch. Veggie risotto was fine, but a little bland. I regretted not getting the quiche with peppers and goat cheese. Cappuccino was way too hot; this is so easy to get right with a small amount of training; every barrista in Italy can do it without a problem, but it's almost impossible to find decent cappuccino in the US.
My first time in the restaurant, it was nicely decorated, quiet enough, and the staff was friendly.
Wonderful food in a relaxed friendly environment. Mussels were excellent!
It was a good evening, the beet salad was fantastic and I’m not a salad guy but yummy, my date mussels were great and the service was very friendly and accommodating and thank you for sending the croquettes for dessert.
Had dinner with a friend who had flown in from California. The food was out of this world! Good wine selection. Fantastic service.
First time at the Del Ray Cafe. We had the classic french onion soup. Perfect. Mussels and scallops for dinner. Very Tasty. You won't believe the selection of desserts. Soufle w/ Grand Marnier. Out of this world. We will go back for breakfast later this week.
The French onion soup was delicious as were the salads. We LOVED the Halibut, which was one of the daily specials. My husband wasn't quite as enchanted with the short ribs though. The profiteroles weren't QUITE as divine as the ones we ate in Paris, but still quite tasty!
The best food in Del Ray, and among the best in Alexandria. Low turnover of servers, so they greet return customers. That's a good sign. It's truly a neighborhood gem.
