Japanese Speciality
Downtown
About the restaurant
Nodoguro is an intimate, modern tasting restaurant in the heart of Portland, led by Chef Ryan Roadhouse, winner of the 2026 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest & Pacific.

Rather than recreating Japan in Oregon, Nodoguro uses Japanese technique, seasonality, and the traditions of kaiseki to create a cuisine rooted distinctly in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon ingredients, memory, and imagination shape each menu into a theatrical, unexpected, and deeply personal dining experience.

Small venue with small menu but food was great. Delicious oysters, yellowtail toast. Adventurous wine options for tasting. Only drawback was the loud noise level. After 8 p.m. it dropped off (we were there on a Thursday).

French
North Portland
About the restaurant
Bar Nouveau is a neighborhood restaurant in the heart of St. Johns, where French-inspired cooking, Pacific Northwest ingredients, and thoughtful hospitality come together around the table. Whether you join us for Sunday brunch or linger over dinner and wine, our hope is simple: that you leave feeling just a little more cared for than when you arrived.

Led by Chef Althea Potter, our seasonal menus celebrate local farms and producers with classic technique, curiosity, and a touch of whimsy. Our warmly lit dining room, thoughtful cocktails, and wines we love invite you to settle in and stay awhile.

Dinner is served Thursday through Sunday, with brunch service on Sundays. Reservations are highly recommended. Tables are reserved for 2 hours at dinner and 90 minutes at brunch. Parties of up to five dine à la carte; larger groups enjoy a family-style prix fixe menu. Walk-ins are always welcome when space allows.

I really enjoyed the chef's tasting menu. As always with Chef Potter's cooking, there was so much flavor in every dish. The pacing was relaxed and the service attentive and excellent. The spiced apple madeleines for dessert were gobsmackingly delicious!
