This is such a wonderful, magical place that teaches how to work in the food industry. Every dish we've had over 4 visits has been excellent and the young jazz musicians add a special touch.

Wow, what an amazing meal! The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish, including an intimate setting (14 or 15 people sitting in a 'horse shoe' with the chef in the middle and a wood-fired cooking area behind them), an impressive seasonal menu (with a few extras) and a very nice selection of reasonably priced wines. The menu is a prix fixe with 3 courses, with 3 selections in each course (of which we got to choose 2); there are also various other things 'thrown in', plus a few add-ons you can choose to include or not. Everything we had was delicious, from the oysters to the fall salad to the tuna confit, house made sausage and the amazing rogue river blue. The only caveat/warning: portions are very generous, and so come hungry (and maybe consider if you really need the optional add-on:-) Service was warm and (from the chef) very educational. We will return. p.s. we ate at the 8pm sitting on Wednesday (which is one of the more available slots); otherwise you may need to book several weeks out.

What an incredible night celebrating Carlos’ birthday at Bar Crenn! From the moment we walked in, everything was absolutely amazing. The staff went above and beyond to make the evening feel special, and their hospitality, attentiveness, and attention to detail truly made the experience unforgettable. The atmosphere was everything! The music set the perfect vibe, the drinks were exceptional, and every appetizer we tried was delicious and beautifully presented. Everything came together so effortlessly, creating the perfect balance of elegance, fun, and an intimate celebration. What really stood out was the staff. They made us feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of throughout the night. It’s those little touches that turn a birthday dinner into a memorable experience. Thank you, Bar Crenn, for making Carlos’ birthday so amazing! We couldn’t have asked for a better evening. From the ambiance to the music, cocktails, food, and outstanding service, it was a 10/10 experience. We will definitely be back! 🥂❤️

Bernal Heights
About the restaurant
Chicáno Nuevo is the culmination of years spent cooking, serving, dreaming, and building by Abraham Nuñez and Courtney Fujita. Abraham’s cooking is inspired by his Baja and Tijuana roots, fine dining experience, and love of seafood, while Courtney’s background in hospitality and beverage helps shape the warm, lively atmosphere of the dining room.

Our prix fixe menu (currently $95 plus tax and gratuity) features raw and cooked seafood, with dishes designed to be shared through conversation, music, and a relaxed evening together.

At this time, we are a two-person team preparing the entire experience ourselves and unfortunately cannot accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, or substitutions.

We offer a small selection of non-alcoholic options and encourage guests to explore the wonderful bars and nightlife in our neighborhood before or after dinner.

Consuming raw or undercooked seafood, shellfish, eggs, or meat may increase your risk of foodborne illness.

One of the most creative restaurants and dining experiences I've been to in a long time. Courtney was incredibly attentive and the ambience was wonderful. Tiny and tastefully appointed with what I believe were only 14 seats per sitting. I look forward to visiting again.

We had an outstanding experience at Californios over the weekend. The food and service were excellent. A very special mention goes to André, our main service host. Though multiple members of the Californios team helped us, André's meal service combined sophistication, aplomb, and joy. Throughout the meal, we noted specific moments of technical genius and what must have been hundreds of hours of R&D. One simple example was a tortilla that did not shatter after multiple bites. Simply astounding. We were treated to a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar by General Manager Louis. We watched the brigade at work, serving their guests with precision and amazing treats. Chef Val has tuned his team perfectly, producing a symphony of his take on Mexican specialties. A final shout-out goes to Kelli, Chef de Cuisine and the expediter for our evening. She orchestrated a simply amazing composition emphasizing the exceptional textures from Chef Val and his team.

There is a $20/guest min for table service
Mr. Tipple’s heralds back to a 1950s NYC basement. Cozy. Dark. Boozy. The intimate setting features local jazz artists up close and personal. It’s a joint where you come as you are, hear great music, tap your toes, and sip a properly chilled cocktail.
-
My name is Mr. Tipple. Just a simple and laughable bloke hailing from London. I run a recording studio. My friends joke that you’ll oft find me spinning cocktails, not reeling tape. After a few too many, I usually just sit back and enjoy the music, having forgotten to hit record. Regardless, the band is always jiving, the whiskey is always cold, and we’re having a smashing good time.
