We had a great dinner! Food was great a bit pricey but great! Service was outstanding! Would go back in the winter to see the high fireplace on!
Lamb was good. Steak lacked flavor
Spinach was nothing special
Felt like things were over priced
The menu was surprisingly pricey for the run of the mill food we received. The steaks we ordered were well cooked, but really quite flavorless. I'm not sure if any seasoning, garlic, herbs, etc were used on them at all. Other dishes had similar qualities.
The atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly.
I think the suggested price range listed on open-table is misleading.
It starts with the mandatory valet parking when you drive up.
Virtually all the entrees start at $30 and go up to over $70. The appetizers run between $18 and $29 Most of the sides are about $10. I don't believe the average diner is getting out of this place for anywhere close to $30. Most will be north of $50, if they indulge in such extravagances as a drink or a salad.
Always outstanding! Great steaks, wonderful pasta dishes and the best garlic mashed you will find!
Wait staff is top notch, you want for nothing...
Was disappointed, have been there several times before. Love there bread, they were out of what we wanted. Salad dressing not up to par. Overall, not what I was looking forward to.
Great food, especially crab cake appetizer and steaks! Bread basket is lovely. Wait staff jump right on empty plates and water refills. Drinks come quickly. A bit pricey but we love EJ's for a weekend dinner or spwcial celebration.
This place may have the best food in the state. The food is absolutely amazing and the service is top notch.
You would think Joe Pesce the actor was waiting on you, he acts and sounds just like him and so very kind.
This place makes you feel special and you will not be able to finish your food because the entrees are enormous. My wife and I absolutely love this place.
Friends in from out of town, had to take them to the best restaurant in the world!! Food is always amazing as is the service and atmosphere!!
The wine was delicious and the porterhouse for two had a good flavor. However, the steal was loaded with gristle. My suggestion would be to get the ribeye or filet.
Basically a good experience with great food....our dining area was understaffed on the night we were there and we had to flag our waiter down to place our order and make general requests during the meal. This is the first time that we've had this problem here and found this surprising because it was a Monday night!
Had another great time at EJ's.
Best T-Bone ever!!!
Sevice w/ Raul outstanding.
Tremendous dinner and our server Daniel was amazing. Well paced dinner and made the kids all feel special. No way anyone can ever leave hungry. Great ambience and lively crowd. Fun for big family dinners or groups of friends.
EJ's is a classic! Great place for a good cocktail, nice wines and steak-- old school style, a la carte items, served up by wonderful waitstaff in white jackets. Get a booth if you can-- so comfy while you dig into delicious steaks and all the fixings.
the food is always very good. But portion sizes are way too big which ends up with really pricey meals. Service can feel a bit rushed like they are anxious to turn the table.
Excellent food (we had steak) and professional service. A tad pricey but worth it.
ej's was excellent. service was friendly. food is amazing.
highly recommend the whole menu.
look forward to going back next week.
Always consistent food and service. Quality of beef and dover sole is as good as it gets... Often go there with friends for a special evening and celebrate birthdays and anniversaries...
We love this place. The service is always attentive and friendly. Our food was hot and prepared to our satisfaction. Pork chop meal is great value. Two huge chops, salad, and potato for $38.
The prime rib is beyond big.
Love the shrimp cocktail.
The only negative is the restaurant doesn’t serve warm bread!
Great experience. Hidden gem that rivals the best steakhouses in downtown Chicago.
ej's is the place the in-laws want to go when they are in town visiting.
they had the veal chop and lamb chops and said the best there are!
highly recommend to all.
Unfortunately this meal was a big disappointment. My salad was drenched in dressing. My steak was overdone. A large group was seated next to us so we couldn’t even hear each other. Service was okay but disinterested. Way over priced for the experience.
Always flavorful. The portions are huge and the wait staff are the best.
E.J.’s is a classic, high-quality, old-time steakhouse with a large dose of Italian options. It’s the sort of place you return to year after year for special occasions. I go for the meat and their particularly good sides. Friday and Saturday nights are my favorites because they offer prime rib then. I think it’s the best prime rib in the Chicago area. It is expensive, but it is very good/excellent. My only negative is that it is somewhat louder than I would prefer.
First time dining @ EJ's. We had a wonderful waiter in Andrew and exceptional food. My "petit" filet was enormous (10 ounces!), and my caesar salad very large and delicious. But my husband's lamb chops (2 double, long-bone chops) were really the star of the show! And the homemade potato chips? Amazing, and enough for 4 people. Thank God we had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The only negatives: it's quite loud in the main dining room and very dimly lit. Reading the menu would have been a real challenge had we not used our cell phone flashlight app. We will definitely be back!
This is been one of our go to favorite restaurants for many years however this night everything was extremely disappointing . The service and food were below expectation especially when we were a party of six spending over $600 .
Wet good food and atmosphere. Be ready for the cost though. Portion sizes huge. Consider sharing.
Classy, clubby, delicious, and plentiful. From the moment you pull up to the restaurant, you feel well tended. The exceptional service continues throughout the meal. The servers tend to your every need and often let you create your own meal if you do not see EXACTLY what you want on the menu.
Took forever to get our food, like almost an hour. Definitely an older clientele. Food was good enough but nothing special for the wait. Other options nearby that are better for the money.
Waited over 30 minutes past our reservation before we were seated. Food and service was below average for the high prices you pay.
EJ's was very very good. Prime rib special outstanding.
Service by Raul excellent.
Our fiends enjoyed it as well and will recommend.
Yes, this is very expensive but we love the Chicken and Peppers w cottage fries. Two people can easily split one order. The ambiance is ok. It is like an old fashioned steak house. Anything you order is good. We love the salad that comes w dinner. Try the house dressing and blue cheese on the side. We love the place.
Consistently great food and service in a lively andvebergetic atmosphere
Celebrating my mom's 83rd birthday and she chose EJ's. We've been there several times and enjoyed most of our prior experiences. But, my advice is: Never go on a Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Yes, you'll have attentive service however, the food tasted like it was re-warmed from Saturday night. The bread also tasted stale. Plus, the $17 glass of wine I ordered smelled and tasted like the bottle had been left open at the bar overnight. We never made it past the calamari appetizer -- so rubbery and lukewarm that we had to send it back. In their defense, they did allow me to order a different wine. And, they did offer to prepare another calamari appetizer or something else, however, we declined since my mom was afraid the rest of the meal would just come out the same. Needless to say, my mom was so very disappointed since her birthday dinner consisted of an inedible appetizer and a piece of birthday pie (which she did mention was tasty!) I gladly paid for my wine and for my mom's birthday pie -- yet I still don't understand why this would happen. I don't know -- maybe they thought my 83 year old mother would not notice the lack of quality. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice either. Tell me: is it unreasonable to expect freshly cooked food and drinkable wine -- even on a Sunday?
ej's awesome as always. our friends we brought for their 1st time thought so as well.
Took my wife and enjoyed the experience. I suggest sitting in the back because the front lighting is very dark. It does get loud but the food is worth it.
EJ's is excellent.
Highly recommend in every way!
The whole menu is delicious.
Upscale classy dining experience. Old school. Great valet service.
Always outstanding. Better than any downtown steak house. Professional waiters, good pours, and delicious food.
