Owner, EJ Lenzi, and manager, Abelino Cepeda, bring over 60 years of combined restaurant experience to Chicago's North Shore. Teamed with a mature and experienced wait staff, EJ's Place is the North Shore's premiere supper club.
One of my favorites in all of chicagoland... They have an extremely experienced wait staff that ensure you are well cared for and the food is delicious. An amazing comfortable supper club experience with delicious food and stiff pours.
Best food on the North Shore. Always consistent. Good "pour" too for the drinks. Professional experienced and accommodating servers
Casual and friendly. We enjoyed our dinner and service was excellent. Very "old school Chicago" style with servers in white jackets and amazing steaks & seafood. We will be back!
Food and service were very good. Only issue is that it is very dark. While it is ok in winter, would be nice if there was some natural light in other seasons.
EJ's is a mixed bag. The room is charming (think old school northwoods supper club). The food is very good (don't miss the grilled calamari), the portions are huge, and the service is excellent. But the price point is high for what you get, and the noise level is deafening. As lovely as it was, we couldn't wait to get out of there. I love EJ's but I won't be back.
Good food and great service (waiter was terrific). It's loud but what isn't on a Saturday night
The food was good, nothing exceptional. The service on the other hand was excellent, and there seemed to be a lot of regulars that the wait staff knew by name. But the prices were really high, not worth it. We all took home leftovers, but still not enough to warrant the prices.
Best skirt steak in town! Always wonderful cocktails and sides. Expensive but you get great quality.
EJs is one of our favorite places. The food is always delicious and the service over the top. I was a bit disappointed with our long wait. We had a reservation at 8 for 8 people. One of our couples lost their father so our table size went to 6. My husband and i showed up 30 min early to have a drink at the bar. We were not seated until after 8:37ish. Several people were seated before us, maybe they had earlier reservations but all 6 of us stood there at the bar waiting for our table for quite some time. Just wanted to let you know.
We’ve been going there for special occasions, and usually enjoyed the meal, but I don’t know if it’s worth the money.
Pros: Overall service was good, our server was very attentive, polite and friendly. Wine and tiramisu dessert were good. I love their peas and sautéed onions side.
Cons: My steak was pretty dry, it seems they don’t know how to make it well done without drying it out completely. I asked to pack the rest of the food to take home, my daughter loves their cottage fries, and guess what they forgot to pack-cottage fries. We went there on a Saturday night and the place seemed very crowded, people at the adjacent tables were so close to us you could touch them if you stretched your arm.
So overall we had a good time but for that price I can get a better steak and more personal space around the table at a different restaurant. Forgetting to pack something in a doggy bag I guess can happen anywhere and maybe I should’ve checked, but it was very disappointing for me the next day that they overlooked this. I think we’ll try a different restaurant next time we celebrate something.
Our waiter was amazing, the service was amazing, the ambience was wonderful. Our filet mignons were all over done. We ask for medium rare and they were medium
Everything turned out to be bad when we parked the car at the restaurant before we dined in. The parking attendant came chasing us inside the restaurant demanding to give him the car keys and if I refuse the car will be towed away because they only do the valley and we are not allowed to park the car ourself. I’m sorry this is a public parking area designated for the restaurant customers. This was very rude and did not appreciate the their approach and service. I complained this to the manager but had no positive customer service. I’m sorry I will never return back and will tell all my community to avoid this pace.
Always top notch. Great job EJ! Will be back. Great steaks and seafood.
Always fantastic service and food!! Love EJ’s!!!
Always good. They do a great job.
Awesome great food and service
I love this place but it is ridiculously expensive. And why it's more expensive than its sister restaurant, Erie Cafe, I have no idea. I'll stick to Gene & Georgetti from now on.
Service, food and friendliness are top notch. My favorite steak restaurant in the Northshore of Chicago !
Nice ambiance, good service. Chicken was good. The whitefish was a little fishy. Cottage fries were overdone and more like potato chips. One cocktail, one club soda, a chicken and whitefish dish for $110 with tip is ridiculous. I wont revisit.
Perfect as always
The food is great, but they rush you like crazy through the meal every time.
We asked for food recommendations and we took one of the recommendations However we did not ask and should have what the recommendation would cost. Our server did not advise us either.
We were stunned when the bill came.
We learned a hard valuable lesson.
We will be back to enjoy EJ’s again.
Food is always high quality and delicious. Expensive but worth it.
Food is great and the service is outstanding
Great food great service great prices and easygoing atmosphere.
Prices are pretty high for food. Large portions only offered. Atmosphere is nice. Good for special occasions only, very expensive.
Service is always top notch. Servers are attentive to all our requests and quick to make things perfect. Lamb chops were amazing. Dover sole is a classic. The wine selection is phenomenal. Great holiday family dinner.
We made a reservation for 5 got there little early and were seated right away. The hostess however did not provide us any menus. Water was delivered right away, but still no menus. The waiter showed up asked if wanted drinks but still no menus. I'm half way through my drink and he asks if we would like some menus!!!??? He dropped off the menus and promptly left. There was absolutely no explanation of the menu, the specials or anything. Where the steaks wet aged, were the steaks dry aged? etc. Upon his return he mentioned the soup of the day was lentil soup. He had a difficult time speaking english and when we asked about various items on the menu it seemed like he really didn't know, even if he did there was no way he could have explained it. Answers were short rushed and unacceptable. Their food was good, but they are high end steak prices which demanded a similar level of service. At the end of the evening I provided an appropriate tip level for which he came running out of the restaurant to confirm. For which I politely confirmed. Unbelievable! If you want high end steak and the service to go with it go to Chicago Prime Steak House. DO NOT GO TO EJ's PLACE, WE WILL CERTAINLY NOT BE RETURNING.
We went Xmas eve and with reservations we waited 30 min. Too crowded and too loud. Bland overpriced food; nothing stood out
Fabulous Italian steak house! Professional, polite and top notch service/staff. Food is straight forward and delicious. Large portions and priced accordingly for high end dining in a supper-club atmosphere. A throw back to real food, old time recipes and unpretentious dining ....if the 1950's could've dreamed big.
We had excellent service and a delicious dinner. My only issue was the bread basket. I love a hard crust as much as the next person but the crust on the bread on this evening was SO hard that it cracked one of my normally strong teeth all the way to the end of the root. By the next morning, I had an emergency trip to the dentist followed by an oral surgeon. My splurge turned out to be over 5K before it’s over! Forewarned is forearmed!
EJs is always a great meal with great service! We were there with our adult children. There is enough steak to split a meal for two people.
The go to place for consistently good food and service at fair pricing.
Great spot, great food, great people.
Everything was terrific! My husband tried the ravioli for a change from steak. It was delicious!! I had the chicken & peppers. Somehow I never get tired of this!!! The salads w/house vinegrette & blue chees crumbles was delishous!
Very good but very noisy
It was my first time at the restaurant. Friends had told me that is was a great place. It is a nice space. I had high hopes, unfortunately that was not the case. The Bluepoint oysters ($30 per dozen) were huge but tasteless. I ordered the bone-in ribeye ($70) medium rare. It came out charred to point of being inedible. I sent it back. No problem. It is a huge piece of meat and difficult to cook properly. The second came out somewhat better; however, it was the mostly tasteless ribeye I have ever eaten. The four of us had a $500 meal. There many better options for that kind of money.
David is a great server!
We loved the atmosphere and the service at EJ’s. We ordered 2 chicken dishes, both of which disappointed us by the meat being very dry. The fish dish was also just okay. Prices seemed very high for food that disappointed.
