Ellerbe Fine Foods
I haven't been to Ellerbe in a while but I read about their 10th anniv. so I went to support. The food was fine (red fish) but I'm a really good cook myself so when I go out to any restaurant, the overall experience/vibe and small details are more important than just food quality.
My biggest pet peeve - when I finished my meal & was leaving, I walked right past the chef, one of the managers & the valet and not one of them asked me if everything was good, thanked me for coming, etc. - nothing. Totally unacceptable.
Secondly the restaurant was cold. My waiter said he'd talked to the manager about turning down the AC a wee bit (quite a few people had on jackets inside because of the coolness). But it never warmed up so I moved to the outside patio.
In regards to the food - as a Californian who's accustomed to excellent farm-to-table fare, Ellerbe gets points for effort but the execution is lacking. First, the bread was rather average (and hard) & I had to ask if there was bread service before I was served it. Secondly, there is no bar but it would be good if they offered some non-alcoholic options (spritzers, etc) for people who want to eat & drink light. Likewise with the desserts - some lighter options are needed (sorbets, etc) for people who want light farm-to-table fare. Lastly the red fish was good but needed simple salt/pepper.
As a new resident to FW & foodie, I'm still looking for a go-to farm to table restaurant in the city that I can patronize on a regular basis for business & personal pleasure. I thought I'd give Ellerbe a try but there's either a level of obliviousness or arrogance present (I'm not sure which). I hope that my honest assessment of my experience is beneficial because my goal always for any restaurant is for them to shine & prosper. But when you don't acknowledge customers, when they walk right past you, it's clear that you're taking us & our support for granted, not good. Likewise with the inattention to small details.
AS ALWAYS, FOOD AND SERVICE WERE FABULOUS! THE ONLY THING AND IT IS VERY MINOR....THE BREAD BUDDING WAS A LITTLE STALE AROUND THE EDGES. STILL DELICIOUS AND ATE EVERY BITE.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND ELLERBEE'S
Excellent service and environment. Food was delicious, creative, fresh and EXTREMELY light. My wife and I really enjoyed. Smoked carpaccio beets and rabbit crepe were great! Thank you for a lively evening!
I have been dining at Ellerbe Fine Foods since they opened 10-years ago. One of the top restaurants in the DFW area. It is my go-to favorite. Richard, Molly and staff are top notch.
We rarely get to go out for date night, and we'd been wanting to try Ellerbe for a long time - and it didn't disappoint. Everyone was so kind to us, our server was able to joke and laugh with us, the managers jumped in to help when it got busy, and even the Valet said I had a cool car. The food was absolutely wonderful and memorable, and really was exciting. We both got to try something we'd never seen before, and we were truly pleased with the cheese plate, our entree's and then the dessert. It really was a great experience and we will most definitely be going back!
Oh my goodness: wonderful! Good and service top notch as always.
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. Our server was super attentive and suggestive for everything. Was recommended by friends and did not disappoint!
First time guest. We’ll definitely go back. Good and service were excellent. The tomato salad was extremely fresh - a perfect presentation of their “Farm to Table” concept.
Food was fresh and delicious as promised. Had heirloom tomato salad and salmon entree both were wonderful
Amazing food, service, and ambiance. Would definitely recommend to a friend!
Arrived on time for our reservations and were seated immediately. The ambiance is great. Server
was on top of his game all night and made sure we were taken care of. Nothing to complain about with this night.
It was our Anniversary. After we sat down, we were given a glass of bubbly wine as a compliment. Our waiter, Andrew, was outstanding. Knowledgeable of the food and recommendations. It wasn’t crowded but we were siting next to three people and could hear their conversations. Lol I had striped sea bass and my wife had the chicken. Both were excellent. My wife let me have a bite of her chicken. We will definitely be back soon.
We just love Ellerbe!! We almost go there for all of our special occasions . . .
Lovely, unpretentious restaurant with five-star food. We always enjoy Ellerbe Fine Foods.
One of the best restaurants in Fort Worth! Ellerbe has great fresh ingredients and inventive dishes.
Andrew was the best. What an incredible meal. The rabbit crepes on the new Spring menu was one of the best things I’ve ever had! Cannot recommend Ellerbe enough!
Birth of Grandbaby!
Food was good but service was fair. The power in the restaurant went out but they still served bread pudding that was not warm. They did not want to serve ice cream with dessert because they didn’t want to open the freezer. Still charged the full amount.
Nite out with my bride.
We had the striped bass and halibut. Cooked perfectly. Some of the best fish we have had anywhere. Waiter was incredibly knowledgeable talking through the menu. Exceeded expectations.
One of the entrees (halibut was very dry) didn’t meet expectations on our visit. Also, the service was spotty (slow and inattentive). It might have been an “off” night. However, this would not keep us from dining again at Ellerbee’s.
The whole Mother's Day brunch at Ellerbe's was an up-selling scam. Add-ons were brought and added to the bill without being ordered. The waiter pitched champagne by the glass then (after he had some takers for glasses of champagne) revealed that the only champagne by the glass available was $50 per glass more than the $45 prix fixe meal price. Initial bill was double charged (16 prix fixe meals for our party of 8). The worst part was the waiter who tried to patronizingly explain how restaurants work when his order errors or over charging were pointed out to him, and made a point of tell us we are supposed to tip when he brought the bill that over charged us by $360. I woke up angry about it the next morning. I'm still livid.
We have been to Ellerbe’s many times. This is one of our favorite Ft. Worth dining spots. The food on this occasion was superb. Our only complaint was our server. We have had him before, and he was ok. He is highly competent, however, he was apparently attempting to refs
The main courses were delicious. And our waitress was attentive. But the serving portion for the salad was very small, as was the charcuterie board, especially considering the price.
I have never been to a restaurant that didn't either have a separate "sides" menu to order with your entree or that included sides with the meal. The duck crepes were luke warm but had a good flavor, I told the waiter after my mom ate it b/c she doesn't like to complain. He said "thanks for letting us know" but offered nothing in return. She got 2 small duck crepes with sauce and literally no sides, no salad, no veggies, nothing. I got the sea bass and it was a VERY small portion with a very small serving of rice under it and an undercooked piece of kale. The flavors were good, but again it was warm, not hot. I feel they should either raise the price and give more with the meals, or lower them a bit and have sides to order, not just appetizers and $13 salads. Brought 3 tiny cookies at the end which were good, but why not bring 4 when you have 2 people at a table so you don't have to decide who gets the second cookie! Wouldn't go back.
Ellerbe was AMAZING. We celebrated college graduation from TCU and it was a perfect mix of classy with comfortable. 14/10 would recommend.
The yes recommendation is tentative. They emphasis farm to market. Just wondering if it all is. Rather pushy on wines. They do not have a broad range of different types. The cheese board was way overpriced for what was received. Our main courses were cooked excellent, portion on the small side. It's just a remodeled gas station.
New menu did not disappoint! Andrew was very knowledgeable about all the new items. We had the charcuterie plate, a great red wine, striped bass with shrimp, and strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Fantastic meal, great experienced server named Scott, would recommend Ellerbe for any special night or a night you want to transcend mediocrity. Its a farm to table restaurant so the menu changes along with the season, so be sure to check the menu beforehand. We started off with calamari and melted pimento cheese toast appetizers. The calamari was not fried, it was cooked but served chilled with a delicate tangy sauce and a small bed of kale. I loved it but my lady prefers the more common fried versions of the dish. The pimento cheese toast was gooey deliciousness, also served on some with some kale and a light but slightly different sauce. For the main dishes the lady had the halibut and I had the lamb chops. The halibut was very good, clean, healthy and served with some peas. They did the best possible to make something boring pretty tasty. However, my lamb stole the show. It was the best lamb I have ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection, with a delicious seared crust that created an amazing flavor. It was served on a bed of fennel which I don't ordinarily like. However, even the fennel was scrumptious. We couldn't agree on a dessert and really weren't that impressed with the offerings. I'm more of a chocolate cake guy and the lady only likes tiramisu, neither of which were options on the night. Will go back when we are ready to treat our selves again.
Our 2nd for dinner and hopefully many more since the wine/food + service stand out from most places we have eaten. Good for special occasion or just out with friends.
Keep up the high standards!
The airplane chicken dish was amazing! Always love Scott waiting on us!
My first time at Ellerbe Fine Foods and I will be back! Great food, excellent service and wonderful ambience. It helped that we were able to sit outside on their large, comfortable patio. So many restaurants put crummy plastic patio furniture in their outdoor seating area, which really doesn't make sitting outside very comfy. But Ellerbe does it right and the experience was fantastic.
Laura was an exceptionally knowledgeable and pleasant server. She made everyone feel as though they were the most important person there. She is a great asset to the restaurant. We had salmon, halibut, sea bass, and lamb chops. All cooked to perfection.
Excellent evening, outside dinning, very enjoyable.
I’ve been traveling to Fort Worth for business and hadn’t really found any special places to eat. Being from San Francisco I didn’t have high expectations around quality organic food in Texas. I was pleasantly surprised to find this farm to table restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the wild salmon dish. The strawberries in the strawberry shortcake dessert were divine. I will be back when I return next week!
Food was good and our server was attentive. Always good.
Beautiful night on patio. Outstanding food, perfect portions, great flavors. Service taken seriously, wine knowledge extensive. Fun part of Fort Worth. Very well done.
Love the restaurant!
Exceptionally good food and a huge wine selection, but the options by the glass are either awful or expensive, at least the ones we had. The location is a nicely remodeled gas station, but some noise insulation would benefit the ease of conversation on the table.
In the end I had an American style Pilsner style beer from a local brewery with my steak as I couldn’t find a wine that was appropriate for my European palate :-)
ALWAYS CONSISTENT WITH DELICIOUS FOOD, SERVICE AND AMBIANCE.
