As many other restaurants in Vail get better year after year, Elway's remains stuck in the past. Quality was better comparatively 10 years ago, but today for less money your can eat better and have at least as good an atmosphere in 4-5 other restuarants in the Village. It is also frustrating that Elways is one of the few restaurants that automatically adds a 20% tip to the bill.
Steaks were very good. Lamb chops were a good portion, but not the best Colorado lamb I’ve eaten.
Elway’s never disappoints! Excellent service and delicious food!
Un gran lugar para comer algo casual en las mesas altas. Una maravilla la hamburguesa. !!
Table of 4 at 5:45 pm. We were one of a few in the restaurant. Ordered pretty quickly, the wedge salad was mostly wedge and very little blue cheese crumbles and one piece of bacon. Not a huge deal but kind of wimpy for $18 dinner salad. We all ordered steaks, as this is their signature dish. Took about an hour to get our entrees, which was very frustrating. 3 of the 4 steaks were cooked perfectly. One steak was cold. When sent back, they went into explaining about allowing steaks to stand for perfect cook.... yes I eat out a lot and cook, I understand having steaks resting. This was cold. Brought a new steak and it was raw! Which I could tell as soon as they set it down. By now, the other 3 in my party had finished eating. I brought the new raw steak to the waiters attention and he said oh my, yes it is. He should have noticed before he brought to the table. Then when we paid he said they took the $48 filet off our bill since I didn’t like it...... I didn’t like it because it was cold and then raw!!!! Such a bummer. For the amount of money charged, it was below average....Would not recommend
Excelente servicio y la comida deliciosa
Good food, the ambience in the back window room was very nice. Jessica our server was great. Only negative, turned into a 2 hour dinner. We waited for 1.5h before our dinner food arrived. We were caught behind a large group order, however others who sat after us still got there food before us? They offered us dessert for our wait, which was appreciated.
Really great - they were firing on all cylinders and it was Christmas night, which makes it all the more impressive!
Pricey, but delicious with excellent service. Had been awhile since we had been here and reading some of the reviews I was a little concerned that things may be slipping a bit. Our visit confirmed that it is still an excellent finer dining experience. All of our courses were perfectly prepared. It’s a shame that others did not have the same experience. Hopefully those were isolated issues and the restaurant will continue to deliver consistently excellent meals, especially given the price.
Amazing place, always the best dinner
The best steakhouse in Vail. Great starters and salads. Recommend the tuna tartare. Strong wine list with much more than CA wine! Plus very knowledgeable and friendly sommelier. Overall a wonder place!
Food and service is great. However, It is over priced as far as what else there is available in vail.
We have enjoyed our visits to Elway's in the past, many times, but this visit was quite unremarkable when it came to the food. The service and wait staff were EXCEPTIONAL! The food, not so much. It was Christmas Eve, so one can assume that this played a role. Considering the prices and the reputation, I am sure the Vail store knows that they will have many patrons on Christmas Eve. Our bill was north of $400 for 4 guests. Our main disappointment was 2 entrees. I had the filet and my husband had the twin lobster tails. His tails were under cooked and chewy. My filet was surprisingly dull, no flavor, not sure why. I did order bearnaise sauce with my steak and it was served to me cold and again, very little flavor. We ordered the au gratin potatoes, they were over cooked on top, but worse, the potatoes were brown, as if when you slice your potatoes and let them sit and they start to take on a dark color, it was utterly unappetizing. We chose not to complain at the restaurant, in the spirit of the holiday, but mostly because the staff and our waiter were over the top accommodating, pleasant, fun, personable and seemed happy to be working on Christmas Eve!
Our 12/24/18 dinner was very disappointing. Ben our server was excellent. Unfortunately my wife's dinner arrived cooked very rare instead of medium rare as ordered. Ben agreed it was not cooked as ordered and took it back to the kitchen. My wife insisted that I continued with my meal so it would not get cold. By the time her meal arrived, (properly cooked) I was finished and the remaining sides we ordered were now cold. A manager did come by shortly after Ben took to the under cooked food back to the kitchen and said she would take care of the situation. She walked by our table many times after and never acknowledged the issue again. When the $290.00 + check came there was no compensation for the less than favorable experience we had. We went to a premium restaurant, and paid a premium price , but did not receive a premium value. This is unfortunate as we ski Vail 3 times a winter for the past 5 years a always dined at Elway's
Delicious, great service, wonderful ambiance!
Prime rib was a disappointment. Sides were served 10minutes after meat.
Love the grilled artichoke, great steaks, great service.
Fab, as always!
Food was good, but I wouldn't say service was great. Servers weren't that descriptive in telling you about their food. They just didn't seem like they were too into it!
Very nice restaurant and great wine selection and service. The food was not so great. You could tell the lobster in the bisque was previously frozen and fishy tasting. The steak was okay, but came out a little cool. Cheesecake was dry and did not have much of a taste.
Went to Elway's to celebrate my wife's birthday. We ordered the lobster bisque, lamb chop fondue, and the bone in rib eye with some sides. My wife inst a heavy eater so we split everything and the wait staff was very accommodating.
Overall the lamb chop fondue was good. It was a unique idea and the fondue played well with the lamb. The lamb was a little overcooked but as an appetizer I didn't mind.
My major issue was with the rib eye. I asked for a medium rare steak and it was virtually charred on the outside and cold red in the middle (at least halfway out from the bone). Since my wife and I were splitting the steak, the waiter had it pre-sliced which made it easy to see the issues with the steak. When I pointed out the inconsistency in the steak the waiter proceeded to tell me that bone-in ribeyes are always more rare towards the bone. There may be some small truth to that... but I cook a lot of ribeyes at home and it was clear to me that #1 the steak was left under a flame too long and then #2 it wasn't allowed to rest properly. What turned out was a burnt steak on the outside with a cold red center.
I would not serve this steak to John Elway, and I certainly wouldn't try to convince him it was cooked properly after he pointed out that it wasn't.
Always enjoy going to Elway’s when we’re in Colorado. Excellent food and waitstaff very friendly and attentive. Great wine list!
We celebrated our 4-year anniversary with a dinner at Elways'. It was a beautiful experience with great steak and delicious food. The stuff was very nice and gave us a card wishing us Happy Anniversary that was signed by all employees. They also offered us complementary champagne. Amazing night. Highly recommend for romantic dinners. We will be coming back!
Maybe the best steak I’ve ever had. The food was perfect, the ambiance was reserved, yet still warm and friendly, and the staff was amazing. Fantastic experience, highly recommended.
The Thanksgiving Meal was exceptional...we especially loved the Butternut Squash soup! We had intended to have steaks but looking at the Thanksgiving plates passing by, changed our minds! Our server Cally was exceptional, made a good wine suggestion and was personable and attentive. We seemed hopeful that being in the small window framed room in the back would be just the ambiance we desired for a snowy Colorado Thanksgiving night. The room had 2 other small tables like ours and 2 tables occupied by bigger groups. The large table closest to us had 2 families with kids but never interfered with our experience. The large table closest to the windows was however distracting. It was obvious that one of their party was a “somebody” ( we knew because we could hear every word of their conversation) It was obvious that they were enjoying their time together and in fact more than one time “several” servers were waiting on them at the same time. Please don’t get me wrong...everyone should enjoy their experience at Elway’s, but in a small room their noise level dominated a more formal dining experience. We could not even hear servers without asking for them to repeat. We are Colorado Springs visitors who had made reservations for that night 10 days out. The dining really was exceptional but we honestly were disappointed that the noise level took the edge off of a great experience. It seemed obvious to us that your servers as well as other diners were aware of the situation.
Thank you for the exceptional meal...we love Elway’s and will certainly return to Vail or another Elway’s when given the opportunity.
The food was excellent, the service outstanding. We will return!! Highly recommended!
We love Elway's in Denver but found the one in Vail to be disappointing. Smaller menu, unavailable items.
We had an amazing experience at Elways. Food was incredible and our wait staff was phenomenal (Ross and Joel). Highly recommend this restaurant! The night was perfect! Thanks to all of you at Elways.
We went for a birthday celebration. Everyone was festive and they had a birthday card on the table and a lucious chocolate cake at dinners end. The steaks are topnotch and we will definately be back! Thanks to all!
It was our anniversary and we happen to be in Vail for an appointment. Made reservations through Open Table. We ordered a steak and brussel sprout hash, both were excellent! The steak was very tender and flavorful. My husband and I agree, it was probably one of the best steaks we have tasted. Because it was our anniversary, we got complimentary champagne and dessert. The staff was very attentive. Would definitely go there for special occasions!
Amazing anniversary dinner that my wife and I won’t soon forget. Amazing food, service, and ambiance!
I took my boyfriend for his birthday and it was pretty disappointing. It was really loud and we could barely hear each other. The food was just mediocre. My steak was unevenly cooked it ranged from pretty rare to well done. My boyfriend had a huge tendon down the middle of his steak and it was extremely rare, we had both ordered medium steaks. The only good thing was the steaks had a good crunchy sear on the outside and it was seasoned fairly well. It was too expensive for such poor quality. A steakhouse should be able to put out great steaks and this was not even close to being great. We won’t be going back.
My husband’s birthday. Everything and everyone was excellent. The only drawback was a couple having a very LOUD conversation made it a little uncomfortable. But Elway’s was great 5 stars.
Great food. Service and atmosphere were outstanding
My fiance and I had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary. Would definitely recommend.
Woman at front door was not at all friendly. They sat us by the kitchen and when I asked if they could move us, the said they couldn't. Then the woman from the front came back and offered to move us out on the covered patio (in October) we politely declined. The waiter was very unfriendly and our steaks were under cooked but did the waiter ask us if we were OK? No. Then we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for our check. Again, passing by the front desk hostess as she gave us a dirty look while walking out.
Delicious steak and house salad. Elway’s salted oreo ice cream for dessert was fantastic! Our table was dark and one of our servers couldn’t remember who ordered what and served wrong things to each of us....overall a great experience though and great food.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with them. Service was awesome, they made a notable effort to make it special - I won't elaborate so you will be pleasantly surprised! Let them know when you make your reservation. Needless to say really but the steaks were great and prepared precisely as ordered. Our server was Mark and Nicole the Sommelier were both great - We had an exceptional dining experience. GO!
We went to Elway’s to celebrate a special occasion, we had a wonderful time!!! The food is so yummy, I ate the special of the day that amazing. Also, the wine list is wonderful, different prices, variety of quality, and great recommendations. Finally, the desert is totally unique and delicious, iced cream with your favorite liquor. Overall, the experience was fantastic, we can’t wait to come again. Highly recommend this place!!!
