Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

    We have been going to Alta Via for some time now and decided to celebrate our anniversary there this year. As usual, it did not disappoint! The food is always perfectly done, and our waitress Alli was very helpful in recommending a wine to pair with our main courses. Thanks for a great evening!

    Michelle, Michelle, Michelle! She was so accommodating, kind, and kept a smile the entire time. I needed help with reservations, and she made everything so easy. I hosted my daughter’s birthday dinner for her and her friends, and while they had an amazing time, I sat at the bar where the bartenders were wonderful as well. The food was great, but the birthday celebration add-on was truly the highlight it made my baby smile, and that meant everything. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate her birthday!

    An intimate OUTSTANDING Italian restaurant. Flour from Italy to make amazing pasta. I had the veal romano. Cannot say enough good and positive. All dishes from scratch. Wonderful service/ A restaurant NOT TO BE MISSED.

    Great Mother’s Day dinner on the covered patio. Starter was a delicious calamari, perfect texture and portion was enough for two. Really appreciated that the timing of the entree gave enough time to enjoy the starter. The beer battered chicken was really tender and served with a chili sauce, seasoned mashed potatoes and carrots - so flavorful! Many thanks to our server Sean who went out of this way to have the bartender craft a beehive. Parking can be a challenge because the lot is a bit small.

    The bar service was wonderful before our reservation for dinner. Our server was wonderful and conversational. I drove 2 hours to have a special birthday dinner and it was worth it! Thank you for the memory🎂😊
