We came for dinner before attending the opera on a Tuesday evening. We were greeted and seated immediately. I am so glad that this restaurant is still here and is still so great! The last time I was here was several years ago. Service was excellent. Staff was attentive, but not hovering. Orders taken and food arrived promptly. The restaurant atmosphere resembles a European bistro. It was warm and inviting and very non-pretentious. We shared a Caesar salad and an order of the bread. They were great. My husband had the scallops and I had the filet of Sole. Both were excellent. We finished with creme brulee. The creme part was very creamy but the sugar topping had a bitter aftertaste. Overall this is a great restaurant. We will not wait so long to return.

My twin and I were celebrating our birthday that day, plus my brother in law’s birthday is in a couple weeks. The restaurant gave us a dessert for our birthdays — and we shared spumoni gelato (that’s all I wante!!!). I haven’t been to an Il Fornaio in over a decade, so this was a treat.
