- RRobinGoldSan Diego •23 reviews4.0Dined 2 days agoWith one serious exception, the food and service was very good. We had the Scallops and the Alaskan Butterfish, both were cooked properly without being overcooked, tender and moist. Service was equally good, no issues at all. The exception: Whoever chose to pair Alaskan Butterfish with Ponzu Broth needs to go back to cooking school! Pairing a delicate, mild-flavored white fish with a bold-flavored broth is simply a bad idea from the start, the broth totally overpowers the fish. The broth in NO way compliments the fish, the broth is all you taste, none of the spinach, rice, or fish comes through. I chose the entree because I thought there would be just a very small drizzle of ponzu, not a 1/4 cup or more poured around the rice bed, thus soaking into all the rice and ruining the rice from working with the fish. I ended up leaving most the rice. Again, the fish was cooked beautifully, the ponzu just ruined the entire dish, and I like ponzu when used properly. Having lived in Japan, where Ponzu comes from, for over 9 years, I am very familiar with it and how it's used.More infoSeasons 52 - San Diego - UTC$$$$• American• University City/Golden Triangle•4.8
- CCaitlynSan Diego •2 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoMy husband and I made a reservation for our 10 year anniversary. Fortunate Son did not disappoint. The ambiance is so cool and special. The beers were delicious and different than the normal SD menus. The food was so delicious, it was hard to put the chopsticks down. We ordered shrimp fried rice, beef lo mein, and orange chicken. All of the plates were incredible, but I have to highlight the shrimp fried rice. It was so garlicky and delicious, but best of all, was how the shrimp was cooked. It had a crisp to it without being overcooked. Totally recommend Fortunate Son for a spectacular meal and experience.More infoFortunate Son$$$$• Chinese• North Park•4.7

Our server Kevin remembered my dessert order! I tried the corn saccetti and had my favorite - the Tagliatelle alla Portofino. It was divine. Can’t wait to go back!More infoCatania$$$$• Italian• La Jolla•4.8
