We visited The Ivy in St Albans on Saturday night for the first time together, after my partner recommended it, and it certainly did not disappoint! We shared two starters, and both were absolutely gorgeous. I then had the fish cakes for my main, which I thoroughly enjoyed. We were both feeling full by dessert, but after spotting someone else’s and deciding it looked too tempting, we shared one, and we were so glad we did! The staff were wonderful, friendly, helpful and really knowledgeable when it came to recommending wines. Our waitress mentioned she had only been there a week, but you would never have known from how knowledgeable and attentive she was. The whole experience was fantastic. The food, service and atmosphere were all lovely, and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill. I expected it to be considerably more, so it was definitely great value for money. Even though we were almost the last people there before closing, we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. That really made the evening feel relaxed and special. We had such a lovely time and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

We arrived early for our booking which was no issue, and they seated us straight away. The restaurant is strikingly beautiful in such a gorgeous old building. There were only the regular menus on the table, so I had to ask for the early bird menu, which the staff seemed like they didn’t really want to give us. The food was absolutely delicious. Fresh and piping hot. The service was a little slow, but overall a great evening and would definitely return!

Great food as always. Staff very polite and attentive but not intrusive. Lovely ambience and had a quiet table at the back which was requested by us and they were able to accomodate this. Always a great night out.
