Best Restaurants for Afternoon Tea in Smethwick

I had feared it might be a little stuffy, but far from it. Friendly and attentive and helpful service without being too much. The food was very carefully done from the English favourites (shepherds pie, fish and chips) to the other dishes such as seared tuna or salads: all presented exquisitely in sensible portion sizes. The place was fairly busy (it was Tuesday lunchtime during May half term) but it did not feel crowded or that the level of service was compromised - although it was a little noisy on the ground floor from the general hubbub from other diners and not piped music - but not enough to interfere significantly with conversation. The decor was tasteful cheerful and interesting as the walls were covered with photos and other images generally reflecting Birmingham and its history. The experience has made we keen to try other Ivies around the country!

Great food, excellent service and value for money.

Very nice food. The fish stew was a bit salty but still good. The steak was perfect from the daily special. The bead with black garlic was amazing!

Excellent service. Very personable service from receptionist and from restaurant Nafiza who was efficient and friendly. Food was superb, fresh and cooked beautifully. The restaurant and bar and other facilities are superb. However the reason for 3 stars for ambience is the restaurant lighting was too bright and there should be some background music. The conversation of others was very audible. Low level music does help mask conversations and more so forces people to talk quieter. The lighting didn’t help as it was on full brightness level so it’s wasn't relaxed and other guests thought they were at home and were talking very loud. I hope this can be remedied as this is very minor suggestion but will transform the restaurant. We will definitely be coming back.
