Each food course was fantastic, from the white asparagus to the oyster, through to the beef tenderloin. Our second time here and we look forward to our next visit.More infoNightbird$$$$• Californian• Civic Center / Hayes Valley / Van Ness•4.8
- KKenGoldSan Francisco Bay Area •67 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoHappy Crane was one of the best meals I’ve had before an SF Opera, SF Jazz, or SF Symphony concert. It occupies a space I have always liked from its Monsieur Benjamin days, but Happy Crane has made it feel fresh and entirely its own. This is Chinese cooking at its finest: incredibly cravable. We started with the Coppa, rosé wine chicken liver mousse on toasted bao, and firecracker shrimp with nori, shiso, and mala glaze. Everything was excellent, but the dishes that followed were exceptional. The crispy maitake cheung fun, with yam leaves and mushroom chili crisp, was deeply satisfying. The fresh seafood “little fry king,” with squid, bay shrimp, scallop, asparagus, and XO sauce, was bright and savory. We also had the lingcod with roasted eggplant, celtuce, and baby bok choy, which was cooked perfectly. Dessert was a surprise and refreshing: a mango-style soft serve with coconut, finger limes, and great fruit. Service was excellent throughout, and the value is very high given the quality of the food. Happy Crane is a great place to eat, and it feels like one of the most exciting restaurants in San Francisco right now.More infoThe Happy Crane$$$$• Chinese• Civic Center / Hayes Valley / Van Ness•4.5
