Delicious food, well-chosen wines, reasonably priced, cozy ambiance, and a marvelous server (Amanda). We had a lovely dinner of small plates, pizzas, and wine, and were not rushed.
My friend has never been to Firehouse and wanted to try the pizza I have been talking about for years.
Great evening with friends. We appreciated Firehouse for accommodating a lengthy stay after the happy hour.
Great food as always!
The food was tasty, but not aspirational. Wine selection included some nice Italian options.
everything we ate was wonderful! Especially their butternut squash and radicchio salad. Yum!
Service and meal were both great
We were a sextet of friends and four had been to Fireside. We chose the "chef's choice" dining option wherein staff chooses various items from the menu and serves them family style. We were all favorably impressed with the quality and variety of the food and the couple who had never eaten there and promised to return. The cocktail selection were standard items but modified; I was underwhelmed with the results and another person switched to wine. Service was pleasant and efficient.
A great place for casual dining. We have been here a few different occasions now and the firehouse has been pretty consistent. We don't live in this part of Portland, but we are jealous of the neighborhood that surrounds this great establishment. I know we'll be back again.
Retirement celebration with family including a 6 year old.
One of my favorite places in N. Portland. The pizza is the best because of the crust - wood fired and chewy, not too thick.
We loved the wonderful dishes and great service! Each dish arrives as soon as it is cooked and it is served family style. The Brussels sprouts were the best small plate and the steak was excellent.
We made a 5:30 pm reservation, which was great with a 3 year old. Our food and drinks arrived quickly, service was attentive, and the food delicious!! Be sure to try the cauliflower and fingerling potato dishes!! Highly recommend the Firehouse! Look forward to coming back again.
When we were there on Tuesday, we were seated next to bricks...it was cold and damp and all of us ended up donning our coats. In addition, the same bugaboo I commented on previously is a problem...NOISY. We had asked to sit in the bar, but were ushered into the dining room which has, what I would call D- ambience once there are more than six or eight people in there. I suspicion you will not respond to this critique as I have sent it twice before in other occasions. Honestly we would frecuent your restaurant more if it were not cold and noisy. Nancy C
I need to frequent this gem. Had forgotten how solid it is, maybe my favorite pizza in Portland! Outstanding services as well.
Found this gem on open table. Must haves are the roasted Brussels sprouts. Amazing!!!! We ordered the steak, it was cooked perfectly. Nice vibe, co music in the background and just laid back.
One of our favorite restaurants in Portland.
Our only complaint is that the menu could be "changed up a bit", or a couple of nightly specials on offer.
Firehouse is a lovely spot for excellent food and tasty drinks. They have a special early dining hour with super tasty light plates including their Margarita pizza! We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and they always provide a delicious meal with attentive staff. The bread and butter are amazing! Many vegetarian options, the brined pork chop and the Meatballs, oh yes...Love the old firehouse with the original photos and old brick. In the warm months (not rainy) they have a terrific outside patio as well.
Excellent food all around. We enjoyed a variety of dishes highlighted by the pork chop. I highly recommend the Firehouse.
Got there for happy hour and it was a good deal. Their pizza is amazing.
We reserved a table for our recent anniversary and we are excited to return for more. We tried the Smashed potatoes, which are small roasted spuds with roasted garlic and mildly spicy pepper sauce. I could eat a 5 gallon bucket of these and still want more. We tried the kale salad which had fresh pecorino grated on top and was pre-dressed to help break down some of the kale, excellent. We had the Margarita pizza which is thin style with a brick oven scorched crust. I paired this with their unique Old fashioned and then The company I was with puts it over the top. I would recommend a few more vegetarian dishes, which could include a cool twist on heirloom beans/rice or quinoa, eggplant, using a bourbon glaze and maybe incorporate a smokey mango chutney. Staff were very friendly and sociable. the historical pictures of the horse drawn fire wagons were a nice feature and we Highly recommend. \m/
We had a lovely time celebrating a birthday at the Firehouse Restaurant. It had been quite awhile since we were there last and it was even better than I remembered. We ordered a variety of items and everything was excellent. The mussels seemed very fresh and cooked to delicate perfection. The pizzas were appreciated by all. Our grade schoolers even ate the brussel sprouts, which were very tasty. We sampled all 3 desserts and they were all great - the best probably being the housemade ice cream. The staff was friendly and attentive in a subtle way and it was a comfortable and easy-going evening.
This was our second time with "Let the Chef Decide," and it just keeps getting better. Plate after plate of unique dishes showed up at the table over about an hour and half. Each one was a pleasant surprise. Some of the dishes are a little adventurous, but there was so much food at our table for four that everyone ate their fill with plenty to take home after.
We loved our dining experience! There were four in our party, we each ordered different items and shared them family style. Every single dish was phenomenal. My only recommendation would be to ask for double gnocchi! Food bliss.
There were 6 of us. Most of us ordered one main and one side. The timing/delivery of our dishes was awful. 3 of us had both dishes, and we waited for others to be served while our dishes cooled. Eventually, everyone decided to just go ahead and eat (if served). This led to half of us being mostly finished with our meals before the last 3 dishes came (scampi mains and steak platter). We complained to both our server and manager...no explanation beyond the was fire being finicky that night. Mostly, no real concern, apology, or offer to repair/make good on the problem. That last meal was so late, it should have been comped.
Even though the food was good, the service was so poor that none of us (6) intends to return.
There are a few dining gems in the city that visit after visit continue to deliver, Firehouse is one of them. The mussels smoky, rich and succulent, I vote the best in the city and a must starter. A perfect steak plated sliced with whole longneck onion and fingerlings right out of the fire. The trout just like you were out camping, a flame touch that is hard to match. Our server was excellent and truly knows her Italian wine list, confirming my selection would not disappoint.
The best compliment I can give is sharing the conversation after we arrived home... "Boy that meal was amazing, they have really upped their game."
As great as always! Warm and cozy, good food. The wood fire mussels are amazing!
great food excellent service good value excellent selection of sides
Its always a pleasure to dine at the Firehouse. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We will be back soon.
Not as good as it used to be. Beets were overcooked and just big pieces.
Meet balls were not as good as prior times we've been there either. Maybe there is a new chef but it was like this a couple of months ago as well.
We wanted to give it another chance but it will be a while before we go back. Too bad because it was really good for years.
Since we live only blocks away it is our favorite walk-to restaurant. The food is always delicious, service is friendly and the atmosphere; while noisy is still at a level where you can have a conversation. Majority of dishes are wood-fired, which adds a distinct flavor to the food. Only drawback is when you get home your clothes smell like you were at a fire sale. All-in-all, I would highly recommend this restaurant, even if it isn't walking distance.
The food is consistently good however too many seats in a very small space
Not good for conversation—too loud.
Pricey for serving sizes
Very cool place worth the travel in NE PDX. The actual dinning room was not as cool as the high ceiling restaurant/lounge area which was authentic to the firehouse. I'd go again for sure.
Family friendly, and yet also sophisticated food for adults. Usually these two things cannot be found in the same restaurant, but they are at the Firehouse. Don’t skip the beets and cauliflower appetizers!
We had the trout with hash and it was excellent, as was the service. We always enjoy Firehouse; it's a comfortable place to get a great meal and is close to home.
Great food for sharing. Very varied, very tasty! Lots of different, unique choices.
Went in on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty empty which was a nice change of pace after a hectic day at work. We were four people who all got different cocktails, each one was amazing. Their version of my martini was perfect! We got the shrimp appetizer and they added in one more shrimp to accommodate the 4 of us, they were cooked to perfection. I had the hen, two people had the steak and the 4th person got the sugo pasta. We all shared our food and everything was super delicious, very rich, but also amazing mix of flavors I wouldn't have expected to work well together. Overall, really pleased with the meal and looking forward to going back again soon!
Delicious! I highly recommend the “chef’s choice” dinner. You get to try so many things, and it’s a TON of food.
We've been there several times always enjoying excellent food and service.
Went with friends who said it was the best pizza in Portland. They were right! Incredible flavor artisan pizzas and fantastic service. We will be back!
Wonderful service and cooks were great! Mushroom Pizza the best thing ever! Definitely going back.
