Food for Friends
I've been going to Food for Friends for many years. Unfortunately I think it's changed hands since the last time I went a couple of years ago and its just not the same.
The food wasn't to the same standard, it was very mediocre, although the crispy Thai cauliflower was beautiful, and the banana bread desert was a triumph.
I don't think I'll be going back again, it's not particularly good value for money and having booked a table on a Sunday evening, the staff were waiting for us to leave at 9.15. What a shame!
Service generally slow.
Menu on website not matching in restaurant.
First choice drinks not available.
Asked for low-alcohol beer, brought zero alcohol beer.
Water on table often ran out - had to ask for more repeatedly.
Good food, but not really fine dining.
Overpriced. Nice location.
Good choice, large portions and very tasty. We all enjoyed our food, service was good but nothing special. Fairly busy when we visited but food didn’t take long at all.
My only complaint is the toilets, run down, messy and not particularly clean. Cupboard doors not in tact revealing messy under sink space. Definitely not checked/restocked despite the hourly check sheet.
Good service from a friendly team, and a pleasant ambience. However, I felt disappointed with the burger and thought it was much overpriced and over salty. The burger patty itself was tasty though. The oyster mushroom scallops were delicious but the portion was small. The tofu side was excellent.
I treated a vegetarian friend for her birthday. We shared small plates. It was quite difficult to find sufficient choice for her as she avoids spicy food. We had to request a spoon for serving twice. I was impressed by the birthday truffles with a candle.
Great lunch. Friendly welcome, although early we were shown to a nice table straight away. Very nice waiter, looked after us very well. Cocktails we had were delicious and food tasty and plenty of it. Have been here a few times over the last two years. Will definitely come again.
Fabulous food, very imaginative menu and great service. Would recommend to anyone visiting Brighton!!
Another fabulous meal at Food for Friends. It’s now become a place to visit every time I’m visiting Brighton. Delicious food, very generous portions, great atmosphere and staff. What more could you ask for? See you again soon FFF!
Quite simply the best meal I have ever eaten in a restaurant.
we will stick to Terre A Terre, better all round, the whole thing was very disappointing sadly
Amazing Valentines meal. Such delicious food and amazing service. Will be going back! Can’t fault anuthing
We have been to Food for Friends before and have always enjoyed ourselves there. As it was Valentines I thought it would be ideal to go here. There was a special Valentines cocktail available which we both tried, it was delicious. My wife had the olives to start while I had the Thai cauliflower. We both had the burger for our main. The food was delicious as usual and the service was very good. If you want to go for a reasonably priced delicious vegetarian meal then I can thoroughly recommend Food for Friends.
Amazing food, outstanding service! I will come back :)
We visited a couple of weekends ago and what a lovely experience. Delicious food, lovely choices and a great little find all around. Made our trip to Brighton very enjoyable and we were impressed with the vegan dishes especially, also... best homemade hummus we’ve ever tried! Thanks for a lovely evening.
Excellent food and service. Good came quickly but nothing felt rushed. I would definitely recommend!
Great service , great food , would definitely recommend. My one criticism was the noise level of the music, could have been lower as it made conversation a little noisy , apart from that was awesome - will be coming back
I chose badly on my main and had a burger as they'd sold out of what I wanted. The Burger was not great at all. However, our server was incredible and swapped it for me with no fuss whatsoever. If I had not tied the burger it would be five stars.
It was very cold in there, but whenever I go it always is so fortunately we had warn extra layers.
I’ve lots count of the number of times I’ve been here. It’s still my favourite restaurant in Brighton. Amazing food, lovely staff and really really good value.
Food and atmosphere was fantastic, will definitely return. The only reason a 4 for food was scored, is because my partner has a nut allergy and all of the desserts contained nuts.
We have visited Food for Friends many times over the years and it has always been our favourite Brighton restaurant. Unfortunately, things seem to have changed. The menu options have greatly reduced and those on offer are nowhere near as nice as the 'old' menu. I ordered wine for the table in advance (fron thrir online menu) as a surprise for my wife on her birthday and was told on arrival they didn't stock this anymore. Lijewuse, my wife ordered a covktail frpm the menu and we were informed they didn't do it anymore. We were there at 730pm on a Saturday and they didn't have my wife's choice of main. All our food was very unsatisfactory and not value for money. Even the toilets were grubby with paper towels all over the gents and no hand wash in the ladies. I do hope they can turn the restaurant around as we have had many a good evening there but they have a lot of work to do to get there.
Really excellent food - even satisfying my meat eating husband. The portions were on the large side and could have probably been about 2/3rds of the size. Service was good and the staff all friendly. We were sat very close to the neigbouring table which not ideal - not all the tables were as close together but it was a little off putting.
Excellent tasty vegetarian food, very good attentive staff with reasonable pricing.
The main problems were the seating - too close to other tables and the noise level was too high - very loud selfish customers! Fortunately the food was very good and the service.
Amazing food and service, told everyone I know to go.
5 STARS! Fantastic food and service! I let them know that it was my wife's birthday beforehand and they gave us free champagne and truffles to celebrate! Nice touch!
Excellent as always, made a fuss of my dad for his birthday
Wonderful food - generous portions! Well worth the money. The pudding we had (white choc & cranberry pudding was amazing as was the salt and pepper tofu starter). Ambiance slightly lacking due to bright lights but otherwise faultless.
Food was incredible, as a meateater I didn't miss meat. The thai cauliflower was incredible and I could eat that forever. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic vegetarian food offering a lot of interesting and tasty flavour combinations. Recommend!!
Buena experiencia, bueno servicio con una carta de platos bastante amplía y interesante para mejor conocer la cocina vegetariana!
Great food and staff. A must visit if you're in Brighton
I asked my vegetarian friend to pick somewhere I could take her for her birthday and she chose here. I’ve been past many times but never been in. I enjoy all cuisines and enjoy eating meat free. I was certainly not disappointed! We had the sharing platter with sides of jackfruit spring rolls and triple cooked chips. The vegetarian scotch egg was my favourite part although every mouthful was divine. I can’t wait to go back, and my friends birthday slate for pudding was so kind of you. I also have a nut allergy and felt satisfied that staff listened to me about checking food ingredients. Some restaurants don’t make you feel ‘safe’ with an allergy but I felt like I was taken seriously. Thankyou.
Outstanding food and really appreciated the anniversary brownies - lovely touch!
We were looking forward to eating at Food for Friends we found the experience under whelming.
Service was great, the restaurant lacked ambience. The lighting was so bright it was like eating in a fast food chain.
The food was mixed. We found the flavours overpowering with smoky flavouring and salt which was a shame. We did really enjoy dessert but was overshadowed by the mains.
We spoke to friends after and they had said if they had known we were going they would have suggested booking somewhere else.
I am not a vegetarian but I do enjoy vegetarian food . The food was incredible try the jack fruit spring rolls omg amazing . As was the joy mouse and halluni salad . We did also have the scallops which were perfect
Had a completely wonderful lunch at Food for Friends with my mum when she came to visit me. She commented on how lovely the restaurant was and the staff.
The whole meal was delicious, but the desserts were particularly special.
Thank you for giving us such a lovely experience x
Perfect lunch inexpensive and very very tasty. So much so we went back the second day. Not vegan or vegetarian but the place And food was superb. Highly recommend for casual lunch. They where super accomadating to our 6 month old.
It was our first time going, it was a very pleasant place to sit and chat followed by some excellent food and service.
Delicious food, good wines and great friendly service. The Thai cauliflower small plate was out of this world!
We love Food for Friends, the food is always special, good quality, and well presented.
The staff are friendly and efficient.
It was my sisters birthday and the staff presented her with a chocolate orange fondant as a birthday treat, it’s those special touches that make food for friends a touch above the rest.
Lovely vegetarian food that’s interesting and well presented. It’s a little pricy but worth it.
