About this restaurant

  • Good for groups
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for creative cocktails
Our family was born in Oaxaca and migrated to the US in 1994. Ever since then, our goal has been to showcase not only our family recipes, but also the hard work and dedication that goes into each of them. Each year, we travel to Oaxaca, and hand pick our ingredients, and carefully select the people we partner with. Guelaguetza is a restaurant, boutique market, and advocates for Oaxacan culture located in the heart of Korea-town in Los Angeles. Our motivation behind our products is simple: uncompromising quality. The products found in our store have taken years of development, and we hope that when taking your first taste of our Mole, or your first sip of our Michelada, you are transported into what Oaxaca means to us...a true Guelaguetza.

Absolutely incredible food and service. Guelguetza is one of those special places in Los Angeles that make our city great. Get the festival de moles so you can try all their beautifully crafted moles. You won’t regret it! Go with a group and order the Botana so you can have a little of everything. I’m already planning my next visit.

The tlayudas and memelas were cold, they come with asientos (lard) and the taste of it cold was unappetizing. The drinks and the mole were good but they should really make sure all the dishes come out hot, really ruined the experience

We have been here many times. Get the fiesta del moles! It’s like a flight of four moles and it’s enough for three people.

I’m from Oaxaca and make Tlayudas so I felt the tlayudas were to crispy and burnt. Same with the fish de mojo de ajo a little too crispy for my liking. The mole was amazing and so was the mezcal espadín but too strong that it burnt. Otherwise the mesera was amazing and the ambience was great. A little pricey for 6 people but it’s okay we enjoyed the time there.

A solid overall dinner at Guelaguetza. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server came by almost immediately and took our order. Service was spot on, it was quick and accurate. They didn’t get anything wrong and they would check up on us frequently enough. We ordered chapulines a la mexicana, the botana oaxaqueña and the festival de moles. Everything was delicious, including the small sides the food comes with such as the rice, beans and guacamole. Such simple staples that can be a hit or miss and they definitely didn’t miss. The chapulines were savory and had flavor (thanks to being a la Mexicana) but they were also not overly seasoned or salty like most others I’ve had. Everything on the botona was delicious, from the meats to the nopal and cebollita. The moles were all good as well but we had our favorites with the estofado being our agreed least favorite. I also ordered a few drinks such as the michelada, which wasn’t bad, the Oaxacan old fashioned, which was good and the carajillo which was also good. I would definitely order these cocktails again. Without a doubt I will be returning. I’d like to try some different dishes and cocktails. Thank you to the staff and chefs

From the host, to the server, the hospitality, the food, beverages, choco flan, traditional flan, tres leches cake, cafe de olla, the Oaxaca chocolate caliente, and the service was excellent. Great food and quality. Muchas Gracias, Natalia G.
