Late afternoons we transform into the best of Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine served with a habesha smile!
Traditional coffee ceremony is complimentary on Sunday mornings.
It is delicious and traditional ,not expensive. They are very friendly and good customer service.
Amazing food, loved the vegetarian sharing platter. Great price too. Highly recommend.
Had a fantastic meal; food was perfect and good value for money.
A better dessert selection should be provided, the choice on the menu was below par.
We booked 7.30p.m. on a Saturday and it was about half full. Service was good and we didn’t wait a long time for our meals for four people which were a selection platter of vegetarian and a platter of meats with their very unusual sourdough bread, which is similar to an aerated pancake and it was very appropriate for the types of food because you eat the food with the bread as an eating utensil - you are not given any metal ones, but I assume you can request some. The drinks (we had a bottle of white wine and some Etheopian beers) were very reasonably priced, as were the selection platters. A good evening meal with good service and unusual p, but enjoyable food. Next time we will choose individual items from the menu.
Fantastic food and friendly service. Would definitely return!
Delicious food and great portions.
Very tasty meal in a casual authentic setting. A great neighborhood restaurant
Unuasal, good food in very simple settings
Having lived in Ethiopia for 6 years, I reckon this was right up to the best standard. We were graciously served with evident pleasure. And the value was outstanding.
Very tasty meal. Recommended place :-)
Excellent Service and really authentic food! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be going back.
Pros: food is excellent and (when you have attention from the wait staff) you get great recommendations— particularly when traveling with kids unused to Ethiopian food. It’s also a short walk from the Vauxhall tube station, so it’s pretty convenient.
Cons: cleanliness is not their strong suit. Our table needed a good wipe down when we arrived, and the bathrooms were smelly and lacked working hand dryers or paper towels. (Great for a restaurant where you eat with your hands, right?)
All in all, it was a tasty dinner—but I wouldn’t put it atop my list of places to visit again. Working hand dryers and clean tables aren’t a sign of inauthenticity or poshness; they’re just good sense.
Harar was a new find for me thanks to Open Table. I am an avid attender of Ethiopian food in N London so the chance to visit somewhere new in S London really appealed. I was not disappointed!
The location is 5 minutes from Vauxhall station along a busy road. The restaurant is small but there were a few diners dotted about to make it welcoming. The decor, sounds and smells are typically Ethioipian.
The food is excellent and very good value. The service was slow but that is very much the case in Ethiopian places. Payment was easy and I am sure I will return.
Booked a table for 12 noon - got there and the restaurant was closed!
Brilliant as always. We travel in from Hampshire for this restaurant it's so good.
Excellent food! Authentic, off beaten track . Would definitely recommend
Unpretentious place that appeals to the local Ethiopian community. Not surprisingly, the food's good, but if you like fancy decor you'll be disappointed.
Great tasting authentic Ethiopian restaurant.
Only criticism is that service was quite slow. We waited quite long to be served but it was worth it
Lovely service, relatively good value. Perhaps the starters are not the best, but the meal was very tasty and service was relatively quick.
Excellent service, amazingly delicious food!
We went there for a catch up between friends and are very glad that we found Harar. The staff were friendly, patient and accommodating. The food was really good the selection had something for every palette. The sharing platters are recommended if you are not too sure what to go for as they cover pretty much all angles. I also recommend taking them up
In their coffee, it really is good, though you may find yourself buzzing for quite a while afterwards. It’s not all that close to us but a good midway point so I hope we can head back sometime soon
I love the food at Harar Restaurant. Great choices and very healthy meals, plus a selection of authentic Ethiopian beers and honey wine! The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual, absolutely not pretentious. Food is great and prices are extremely affordable. I'll go again soon!
Great Ethiopian food, friendly staff, laid back atmosphere, lovely.
I've been looking for some genuine Ethiopian food, and Harar was great. Good injera, and we had the chef's selection including doro wat, tibes, shiro, Abesha gomen amongst others, which were exactly as I remembered them from time spent working in Ethiopia a couple of years back. We were basically the only customers on a friday night, which was a shame, as it's an underrated cuisine, and this was done very well. Topped off with genuine Ethiopian beer. Excellent.
Stunningly good vegan food, washed down with good Ethiopian beer. The stuffed chillies were a little deceptive, though; they looked like jalapeños, but were as hot as scotch bonnets. Ethiopian coffee is not to be missed!
I love Ethiopian food and have eaten plenty in UK and in Ethiopia itself. I was very happy with the meal and the service received at Harar and hope to return soon!
Love this place. Found it by accident and have been back twice since then. The staff are very helpful and not intrusive. Do not be put off at all by the exteria.
Authentic ethiopian food - cpmpletely different - an excellent change!
The best lamb dulet I've had on three continents. Over all food was more than above standard. My new favourite Ethiopian choice.
Very friendly staff and wonderful, authentic food!
Really excellent Ethiopian food - not too spicy and very tasty. The staff were are very friendly and helpful. We had the vegetarian option so can't comment on the meat dishes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to try Ethiopian/Eritrean cuisine.
We had to wait for 20 minutes to be given menus. Another 30 minutes for the waiter to come back and take our orders. The drinks came after 20 minutes of waiting. Another 1 hour for the food to arrive. We were so tired we wanted to leave.
The food was very nice. But the service was really really slow. One person serving the whole restaurant, it's ridicoulous. Very nice food but very very poor service.
Went for a team lunch and we all enjoyed our meal. Could have been a bit spicier for my tastes but otherwise very good.
The food was good, not the best Ethiopian I've had by far but still tasty and well done. However, the service was abysmal. We had to get up and find the waitress to ask for water, napkins or anything else we needed. After asking for the check twice we had to go stand at the front counter in order to get her to bring our bill.
Good food, but not worth the fight for service.
Great place and fantastic food
This felt like a very authentic Ethiopian restaurant with great food choices and a friendly welcome. I would recommend for anyone wanting a great experience of this type of cuisine but do not expect fine dining and be prepared to get stuck into sharing your food and eating with your fingers.
After having got lost on Lambert Rd instead of South Lambert, once we arrived at the restaurant we waited for our food for almost an hour. But the company, the order of hoummus and Ethiopoan-style samosas kept us happy, as did the Ethiopian beer, Castel. The food, when it arrived, was worth waiting for - great flavours and freshly-prepared dishes. The variety on the vegetarian platter was particularly impressive. I also ordered the tea ceremony - only for 1, as my companions were wary about not being able to sleep. The ceremony was charming, the coffee delicious and I slept just fine!
They are a little low serving the food, but it is really good and seems made from scratch, so I highly recommend it if you have the time to wait!
Lovely staff and well-prepared food. Don't miss the coffee!
