Location in the casino is rather strange and we were one of only three couples eating at the restaurant that evening. I enjoyed my evening because of who I was dining with- it had absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant

Very surprised with thr location and having to walk through a casino to gain entrance. Was unhappy with, but paid, the automatic tip. I like to tip as I used to work in catering industry and know how important they are however automatic ones are not something I support.

This place feels like it started out great and then someone stopped caring. The walk through the casino to get to the restaurant is tragic. It’s like a 90s time warp. First the negatives: The decor fought against the beautiful building architecture. Someone said “how do we bring a grans front room vibe?”, and sadly they succeeded. The waiting staff didn’t know the menu or the wine list, and were so slow. Then it turns out the bar is the casino bar, and they clearly don’t prioritise the restaurant. Drinks took forever to arrive. The steaks were very bland and the ribeyes had almost zero fat on them. Much more like a sirloin but again, no marbling or edge fat. Apparently they are trying out a new supplier, but I have no idea how a chef couldn’t look at a steak and tell it’s not fit for a restaurant of that supposed calibre. We had several different wines by the glass between us. All of them were pretty basic and had clearly been open a while. They garnish with Dill too much on things that you don’t want tasting of Dill. The positives: The food (apart from the steaks) was actually great. Flavourful, well cooked, and well presented. The Black pudding starter was so good, as was the pork belly skewer (once you remove the Dill garnish). The venison was fantastic, although the portion size for it was about 80% of what I would have expected. All the sides we had were amazing. Overall, my belly was full and happy (I had the Venison), and the company was fantastic, but everything else about the experience left a bad taste in the mouth. Absolutely not worth the money, or wasting a Saturday night on. Might be okay for a quick lunch….but then you still have to do the casino walk. I’m very surprised James Martin puts his name to this.

Had a fabulous Sunday roast in a nice setting, although you do have to go through the Casio to get to it. The staff were very friendly.

very disappointed at the james martin restaurant , it was my wifes birthday & we was out for a special occasion but to be honest the food was ok , we had the crab & prawn starter then rib eye & fillet the food came out & the lady waitress didnt know what was sirloin or ribeye so things got a bit messy . The starters was ok but the mains not great not presented well a piece of steak on a plate & chips in a basket so it was like a pub set up .... come on James Martin for £171,00 we was expecting the wow factor . We had our 2 courses then left , didnt order the 3rd course as we just didnt want another disappointment . James not a good experience at all, it seemed to me everything needs looking at including the pricing .... really not happy . Also our Daughter rang and asked could she pay £40 towards the bill in which they accepted and took, this was not deducted from our bill and had to be reimbursed to our Daughter, so again the experiance for us was not the greatest.
