Love this restaurant and make a point of eating here at least once every trip to Vail that we make. It was a bit loud this time - usually lively noise, but this time we were next to a family that was having fun - no big deal, for sure, as everyone was happy!
The food was TERRIBLE. Cold, they were out of most of what we wanted to order. Our waiter was so so nice, but I don’t understand how this restaurant has over 4 stars on yelp. Seems like a poorly managed restaurant to me.
Service was poor for a restaurant with the reputation it has. Would not recommend it.
The food at La Tour was amazing! However, depending on the server who you get, they may try to up-sell you on everything. Our server seemed very nice however mentioned that there was an upcharge for bread and asked if we would like some, we said no, and discussed a few other options. Upon ordering, he said okay great, and bread too and not really understanding we said sure, as he implied it was complimentary because he mumbled that there was an upcharge when he first arrived at the table. Then when we ordered a bottle of wine, which we pronounced perfectly, he asked what wine again and didn't seem to know what wine we were talking about, wanted to see the page the wine was on, and then proceeded to tell us that the wine was very bad and then pointed to the wine that was $20 more and told us is was the best wine in the restaurant and everyone ordered it... which I doubt as this is a restaurant with a french influence and we were ordering a super tuscan wine, which isn't as familiar of a wine with most people.
All in all, I felt a bit swindled, however the food was GREAT! (as was the bread, which we didn't need but did eat).
Overall nice experience. We loved the food and the cocktails, particularly the wine list, after dinner cocktails, and pre-dinner cocktails.
Regret that the request for the special occasion was not there and the service have change from the previous attentiveness and subtle speciality of what La Tour has to offer
Food was incredible
Way too loud for a fine dining restaurant.
They add a 3% surcharge to your bill instead of just having honest pricing.
Their signature dish Dover Sole at $54 was was not that good
Everything was delicious
Wife has Dover sole...
I had the lamb
Beet salad also great
Los platillos diferentes muy sabroso... la sopa de cebolla y el salmón excelente
We love La Tour! The Chef is fabulous and his wife is the nicest! Can’t wait to go back!
food was excellent; server was nice but a little inexperienced; it is a tight space and can be a little noisy; food is excellent but expensive; we always go there when we are in Vail and will continue to do so
This restaurant was excellent all around. Food, service, ambience. Just loved it.
We like it very much , but we feel expensive
Very good food
It is an expensive restaurant!!!
The service was NOT good
We order an appetizer and wine , the appetizers came but not the wine.
We asked for a bread basket ....we had to remind the waiter to bring it.
We order the entrees and a very nice St Emilion wine, again the entrees cane but not the wine. When the wine came we had almost finish our meal and the wine was too cold.
The food was average.
We had a reservation for a table for 3 , we got a table for two in a very dark corner even though there were several empty tables around us that over the night never got occupied.
I will never go back!!!!!
Disappointed in food quality. Dined there 2 years ago and loved it. The food was awful this time.
Lovely dinner. Great service. Dover Sole was divine.
La Tour has been one of my favourites for years and still is; though, the Truffle Marinated Black Cod on Saturday was not as flavorful as I expected. The black cod was delicious, no doubt, it just did not have much truffle flavor. While the Black Truffle Beurre Blanc was nicely flavored, the serving was scarce. Sadly, the asparagus was over cooked. The Escargot and Oysters were fabulous! Both preparations were positively unusual - The snails were in a creamy sauce rather than simple butter, as customary on menus and the oysters were cooked over coals.
Our server was wonderful - friendly and attentive.
Overall, I recommend La Tour to Vail diners.
Our meals were phenomenal! Wine started the wonderful night. The lamb (I ordered rare) was incredible. Wait staff was super. Ambiance - cozy. We'd return in a heartbeat! -p
Best French food I’ve had in a long time! Great service...
The onion soup was fantastic and the ambiance was better than the pictures suggest. Other than that it was an unenjoyable experience. Two warnings: 1. do not order your meal until your wine or drinks have arrived. 2. when you do order food be ready to eat within a minute and keep eating as there is no pause between dishes. Service for us was appetizer, then bread ($6), then bottle of wine, then main course. The only pause was after I told them not to bring the main until asked (so we could have a sip of wine). Apparently that didn't stop them from preparing the main course and setting it aside because when I told them we were ready for it, it arrived in seconds. We weren't the only ones to experience this service as I observed several other tables in the same boat.
Food and service was good but don’t understand why they put a 3% surcharge on each cheque
Love the food and atmosphere. Very expensive if thats not your preference.
I have been going to La Tour for the past 15 years at least 3-4 times a winter and up to the last two years I have enjoyed the entire experience. However the last two visits were sub standard at best. The service was still top shelf but the food was barely a two star and when you consider the cost it makes it even worse. They have lost their touch somehow and perhaps it’s the chef or they just don’t care. I for one will not go back until I’m convinced they have brought their food standards back to where they were in the past.
We arrived early for our 6:00 reservation with an 18 month old, who is adaptive to social situations. A few little out bursts over 2.5 hour meal, andthe staff was non-plus about him and the guests the same. The 18 month old devoured the child's portion salmon as the the adult's loved their French wines and wonderful cuisine. Ice cream for the 18 month old, who developed a taste for lemon sorbet served to his dad, was sublime. Amaro for "dessert" and the evening was complete. Definitely will be returning in the future.
Clearly took a dive from before. We had been dining there every year on our trips to Vail, will not be coming back.
Also beware, management appropriates tips you leave for the waiters as well as add 3% mandatory tip to help offset increased labor costs. Mind you, this is not exactly a cheap place.
Amazing drinks and amazing food. We went for date night and it is well worth it!!
My Favorite dish has always been the sole, but this time is was a little salty and did not live up to my expectations at over $50 a plate. Usually everything exceeded my expectations, this time, not so much
The food was just average. One person in our party had Paella, and it wasn't very good. The waitress allowed very little time for ordering and immediately the food was served. Our meal was over in less than an hour.
Although we were called to confirm our reservation and we showed up on time, we had to wait 20 minutes. I realize its a busy time, but there really isn't anyplace to comfortably wait when the tables are not ready. So we went to the gallery next door.
The maitre de seemed very stressed, not relaxed at all. She brought us to our table and left 2 menus. One was for drinks and one was for dinner. We had to flag down someone to bring us another dinner menu.
They charge $6 for bread which I think is cheap of them for a restaurant that charges what they do. The reason we were given is that they have to buy the bread. ?? REALLY? Do customers care about where the bread comes from?
All that being said, the food is very good. The price is high and there are really no bottles of wine that are reasonably priced. We had a partial gift certificate so we used it, which barely made a dent. Not sure this place is worth the price, but they do have a great brunch.
A wonderful location for a romantic dinner. The service is spectacular and the food delicious.
Delicious entrees. Cocktails were out of this world. Black Bass, steak, French onion soup, BBQ Oysters.
We arrived early for our reservations and they were happy to seat us a little earlier. Food and service was great! Would recommend the lobster bisque soup and the creme brûlée flambé.
Loved it. They took special care to make our anniversity dinner memorable. We have dined there a few times and have always enjoued the food , service and ambiance. We’ll be back!!!
Appetizer menu is excellent.
The food exceeded our expectations
Wow! La Tour is really the best restaurant in the Vail Valley. The food was amazing and delicious. The service was outstanding. Truly a spectacular dinner.
Outstanding food and service. LaTour is always fantastic.
Our first time dining at La Tour and we were very pleased with our service and our meal. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Vail.
Unfortunately they had us waiting 30 min for the table! The hostess mistakenly skipped us and this was very upsetting.
