Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. The restaurant’s lighting, artfully conceived by Hervé Descottes, employs paper shades and Edison fixtures to create warmth throughout.

    We go to North Star often and always walk out feeling good about it. The atmosphere is relaxing, friendly, and unpretentious, but still upscale. There’s no loud music playing and you can have a conversation with your dinner companion without shouting. The service is always very friendly and efficient - if you’re late they say, sorry you got delayed instead of being annoyed that you messed up their reservation schedule or hassling you. The food is not fancy but it’s always very good and well prepared. Every time we go we say how much we enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend!

    Great restaurant. The downstairs is beautiful. Food is outstanding. Staff is absolutely fantastic. It’s an interesting blend of upscale dining and Greenwich/Westchester casual. Truly unique for the area.
