This restaurant, from renowned chef Ashley Christensen, is dedicated to the technique of cooking with wood fire. You can find a delicious wood-fired steak, of course; but much of the menu showcases the element of fire in more subtle ways. Don't miss dishes like roasted oysters with preserved lemon and chili butter; rabbit cotechino with embered kale relish, mustard frills, smoked rabbit jus; and luxurious pastas like the buttery agnolotti with grilled maitake, chèvre, lemon thyme. The space itself is sophisticated and sleek, and full of character. The building was established in 1907 and has formerly housed a funeral home and a bank (the restaurant's name is a hat tip to these former tenants). Don't miss the beverage program, including the extensive wine list. The wine cellar is housed in a former bank vault in the basement.

We had the dill pickle Caesar and the lobster doughnuts to start…my husband and I both agreed it was the most delicious Caesar we’ve ever had!! That dressing is to die for. We then shared the macaroni au gratin…there is a reason this is one of their most ordered dishes…and a definite reason they’ve been around for 19 years. There was not a bite of food left on any of our plates 😂 Along with the delicious food, the atmosphere was adorable; it was like upscale diner decor. Our server was also super knowledgeable and friendly. Just overall 10/10 vibes. We grabbed dinner here before a show at Red Hat, but we’ll definitely be back, with or without a show!

Enjoyed a wonderful weekday brunch with my mom. Irregardless was on my short list of required stops during her visit from out of town. I continue loving the falafel balls/lemon tahini dressing, irregardless bowl and the lemon blueberry ice cream sandwich. Thank you for serving us Carley and thank you to Lee for preserving the reputation and quality of this top rated Raleigh restaurant.
