Two decades before Orchard opened in Verona, Deirdre Birmingham and John Biondi began work on a farm in the Driftless Area planting trees that, mostly, did not exist in this country.16,000 apple trees. Not eating apples. English and French cider varieties, certified organic. After20 years of improving drinks made from these apples, they built Orchard.Now drinks at Orchard trace back to the orchard in Mineral Point. The kitchen runs with the same patience as the farm. Chef Ian sources from the grower network Deirdre and John built before the restaurant.Friday fish fry is a weekly ritual. Brick-oven pizzas rotate seasonally.     We let them know ahead of time that we were celebrating my mom’s 84th birthday. We were greeted with “Happy Birthday!” at the hostess stand and given a table with full view of the lake. Our server also wished Mom happy birthday and was extra attentive. The food was excellent and we received a little birthday treat at the end. A wonderful experience, all around, and worth the price.

    I had dined at the Eno Vino on the westside of Madison for years. Loved it! This weekend I took a friend out for her birthday dinner at the downtown location. What a lovely evening we had! The view was incredible! The feeling of the restaurant was warm but sophisticated. The food, as always, was tasty and unique. We decided that we have a new tradition of celebrating her birthday at Eno Vino!

    I finally made it over to Lucille for their cheap date night and I was not disappointed! The ambiance was warm and lovely, everyone was happy to be there, and the food was good. They even gave us free "snackiquiri" shots for my partners birthday which was a huge hit! I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu :)
