The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs. The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever. The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Drink sare local and international craft beers & wines from stellar producers.

Elephant & Castle Prince Street opened in Lower Manhattan in ’73 across from St Vincent’s Hospital where George had worked as an oncologist since the 1950’s. After two decades of short lunch breaks where he could never get anything he wanted to eat, finally he retired to a life of eating everything he wanted to eat, in his own restaurant with a special name. His passion and obsession for quality was infectious and E&C became a New York classic within a few years. Doors opened in a very different and quiet Temple Bar in January 1989 and by Summer of that year the queues had already started for our fantastic food and spectacular atmosphere! Outside the world has greatly changed, but inside our swinging doors we try to keep things just the way they were.

The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. Much like our award-winning sister restaurant next door, The Winding Stair, we feel like we are custodians of something very special... a piece of history (James Joyce worked here, how unbelievable is that?!) and we must do it proud! Spanning over four floors and with a glorious roof terrace overlooking the River Liffey. The Woollen Mills is quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale. We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a coffee and bun, a plate of Irish fish and chips, a place to score a casual bite befre the nearby theatres and cinemas or sit with seven courses of Irish antipasti, burrata, crab, lamb or cauliflower steak, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge with a fine bottle of red or a craft beer. We hope we do it well.

What a gem! We were pleased to discover a quaint non-touristy true Irish experience in the heart of Temple Bar. The service was outstanding and the food is something we’ll crave for years to come! Don’t overlook the Spice Bag Boxty - wow! The stew with the port, beer and soda bread was also a big hit. We can’t forget to mention the drinks, especially the old fashioned. Both our waiter and the manager made the night with their storytelling and helpful guidance. It was the best experience we didn’t expect for our first night in Dublin.

A great place in a great location serving excellent local food and drink. Go there if you can. All our food was top notch and I loved the local craft beer. My personal favourite dish was the piggy scotch egg which was slightly runny and exactly how I wanted it. In the last month in England and Scotland I had seen the soft scotch egg on the menu several times and have enjoyed them BUT this was the only place which actually delivered a soft one as advertised.

We had the ghee roast masala dosa and non-veg thali for the mains. My other half was impressed and really happy with the food. He said it tastes just like from home and that they definitely didn't hold back on the spice. (He is from Sri Lanka) We both had pani puri for our starter, and to be honest, we've had better pani puri just around the corner from the restaurant. The filling was not that great and they could have added some tamarind sauce. Also, don't forget to try their mango lassi! Overall, a really great experience and amazing food!
