The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

During dinner hours, the entire restaurant is reserved for walk-ins. We do offer scheduled reservations for lunch and brunch, though they’re never required. For parties over 6 guests please call the restaurant to make a reservations. We have limited space for large parties. Welcome to the most unique neighborhood specialty coffee shop and Cat Lounge in Minnesota. Outstanding coffee, local snacks, pastries, and house-made sandwiches can be enjoyed in our Cat Lounge, our coffee shop area, or our gorgeous back patio. Our Cat Lounge is a cozy, award-winning sanctuary filled with well-worn upholstered chairs, a jazzy mid-century vibe, a curated wall of books and games, and a welcoming fireplace.     My wife and I chose to celebrate our anniversary at the Lexington, and I'm very pleased that we did. I mentioned the anniversary aspect when reserving the table, and this detail appears to have been noted in our reservation. We were welcomed warmly, attended with attention and care by the staff and enjoyed one the great meals of my life. The food was truly remarkable. We split a salad, each had an entree, and split two sides - one side probably would have been sufficient. I had the Meatloaf Wellington, and my wife had the Steak Diane. Spectacular dishes both. It is definitely an expensive proposition, so bear that in mind, but if you're going to opt for a restaurant experience in that upper range, the Lexington is a stellar example.
