“Tankuma” was born on the banks of the Takase River in Kyoto, famous for “Takase Fune” at the beginning of Showa period. Takasegawa-suji is a place where Ikushu restaurants serving seasonal river fish were lined up in the Edo period, but our “Tankuma” has been working hard since then. After the war, we continued to make steady progress with the support of Ryosensen, Junichiro Tanizaki, Isao Yoshii, and other literary artists. The name “Yugyoan” was named after the long-cherished “Rishinyusho”, which has been the best delicacy in China.

    The location is convenient and quiet, nice and clean. The master made an exceptional ceremonial meal and the server speaks good English. The whole Kaiseki experience is a combo of freshly picked local veg, Wagyu beef, seafood, soup is a present of art, flavor and scent. The master prepared the menu with your name printed, and only serve one group per meal which make it a prestigious customer service experience. A great night I had with my gf.

    The meal we’ll still be talking about years from now. We ate very well across Japan, but Okeya Kyujiro stopped us in our tracks. The omakase tells a story, and you feel that with every single course. Every bite was extraordinary, nothing like anything we’d had before. The head chef/owner was so warm and kind, and the food he creates is just amazing. Watching him and his team work feels like a privilege. If you make one reservation in Kyoto, make it this one
