In 1976 local musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt had the idea to bring a slice of America to Norwich after working for and with the American war machine in South East Asia and a later visit to San Francisco to meeting up with former musician buddies.Harvey had the opportunity to purchase an old café caravan situated on Castle Meadow Norwich next to the old cattle market.Zaks opened in May 1976 serving the now famous chargrilled burgers in the “Original Zaks Caravan” wrapped in tin foil and cooked fresh to order in the American tradition.If it is an authentic American dining experience you are looking for then Zaks is your kind of place.     Not our first visit by any means, but if there’s a better place to eat fish in East Anglia I’d like to know about it. Grilled herring, brill and lobster, all exceptionally well-cooked and beautifully served. The wait staff were also, as ever, superb. Bravo!

    We love fish and seafood so decided to build a feast. The menu was great offering set meals or the chance to build your own platter. Wverything was wonderful...especially moules mariniere (amazing sauce) and the crevettes (sweet and juicy). The staff were lovely and the setting/decor felt really atmospheric and cosy. Fantastic...we'll certainly be coming back.
