Too bad we didn’t read all the reviews before going for dinner tonight. All confirmed. The series of mistakes are unbelievable.
We ordered wine and the first chosen bottle the waitress came back saying that they don’t have it. Then we spotted a bottle that if the description was correct was seriously underpriced, instead of that wine they brought the 3rd label of that winery that had nothing to do with it. Then we kindly declined. We ordered a third bottle, 5 minutes later someone showed up with the first bottle “they didn’t have” with no explanation and an act of magic.
Next step my son has a severe allergy to nuts and when ordering starters we informed the waitress and mentioned that if any of those dishes contained nuts we would just replace them. When the three starters came we realized just by eye that they 2 out of 3 contained macadamia nuts, peanuts and nuts. We let them know again. The manager came made a lot of promises, the waitress offered no charge for the kids food. Food was very good. Dessert came, we were offered free dessert. We ordered just one as we really don’t need any freebies, 10 minutes later the waitress came and informed that the creek brûlée has nuts ... so we declined. Then bill arrived, the kid’s food wasn’t free. We paid. We left. Manager invited us again lol! She blamed it on the waitress.
Food was ok... Nothing stood out; typical hotel restaurant.
I have lived in the Vail Valley for several years and there are many excellent restaurants here. Sadly, Leonora is not one of them. I recently had dinner with three other people and the food was some of the worst that any of us have ever experienced (at any price point and this is not an inexpensive restaurant). We all had different entrees (lobster, short ribs, pasta) and they were all either overcooked, lacking in flavor, paired with sauces or vegetables that conflicted and/or added nothing to the dish, etc. When we were asked by the waiter whether we enjoyed the food, we indicated that it was NOT GOOD and he explained that there had been a lot of turnover, that the restaurant was under new ownership and that he had received similar comments from other diners. In fact, the tables adjacent to ours all were commenting about how bad the food was. Service was not much better with the food not coming out together and hot dishes arriving cold, but this could be related to the issues in the kitchen. The Food and Beverage Manager came to our table when we told the waiter about the poor food quality, but was largely indifferent. This restaurant has struggled for a number of years and has gone through different names, different management and different owners. However, it is the same candy bar in a different wrapper and definitely a restaurant to avoid! Call in Gordon Ramsey and gut this place and maybe it will survive.
We booked New Year’s Eve dinner at Leonora and our family was really excited to celebrate NYE with the 5 course prix-fix NYE menu. However, this was one of the worst & most disappointing dinners we’ve ever had, and unfortunately put quite a damper on ringing in 2019. HIGHLIGHTS - we were served raw lobster & frozen oysters, among other issues.
Prior to the meal, I was contacted both by the concierge (upon booking) & a call from the restaurant (few days before) to confirm dietary restrictions and told a separate dish for dietary restrictions was being prepared in lieu of one course for one of our party. However, when we got to ordering, our server had no idea what we were talking about and she ended up with a garden salad in lieu of her course.
Then come the OYSTERS. One choice for a course was the “West coast oyster trio.” However the oysters brought were east coast (Classic bait and switch), and two of the six we ordered were FROZEN. They brought us 2 non-frozen oysters but were never able to explain the west/east coast switch.
For the mains, one option was LOBSTER with potatoes. The first lobster I was brought was GRAY (either uncooked or a bad lobster but either way should not have been served). So we sent back the lobsters and the second round were so mushy (not firm like they’re supposed to be), we weren’t sure they were even safe to eat. On top of this the accompanying potatoes were so crunchy & undercooked that you could have picked them out of the garden and put them on the plate. We mentioned this when we sent the first lobsters back and we’re assured it’d be taken care of, but it wasn’t.
At this point, we’re over this dinner. Not to mention our server was not attentive or helpful in resolving these issues. The manager comped two of our meals (2 of us ordered both oysters & lobster), but it still ended up being a close to $500 dinner that nobody got to enjoy because of the consistent issues.
In all honesty, from the service, food and overall attitude and dining experience, I can honestly say this experience was the worst. Felt like we were imposing on our New Years Eve dinner, and was served almost raw mushy lobster. And after telling server, she would barely let me finish our sentence. Hate to say it, but barely deserves 1 star.
Excellent food- really good - and very nice staff. The kitchen, however, took ridiculously long to get the food out, though we were a large party. I would definitely return though.
Nice hidden away gem
Tapas should come out one by one. Food should not be served cold. And when you complain that a dish was cold , the steak!, they should not charge you for it at a expensive restaurant where they price like they are amazing but do not deliver. Don’t go. Save your money. $150 bill and would have preferred a burger.
Service was over the top amazing. My husband said he felt like he had altitude sickness. The waitress advised him to drink lots of water, keep the humidifier on in our room and e brought him hot water with lemon . Food was amazing! I love tapas and this place did not disappoint. The Brussels sprouts are to die for, the octopus amazing, the pork belly was so good and the steak amazing! Love this place!
The service was good but the quality of the food didn’t match the price.
Comida muy mala y servicio malo precio caro
Food was way over priced and just terrible. Service was even worse.
Our experience was fabulous in every way. The service was exceptional, the food was scrumptious and the atmosphere perfect.
We had the friend chicken and the Brussels sprouts which I would give a solid 4 stars to and then two dishes we did not care for the endive salad and the cauliflower. The cauliflower was not very hot and lacked flavour the endive salad was also plain. It needed some acidity or pickling to bring the flavours together. The thing that made our experience the most unenjoyable was the waitress who seemed snippy with us from the moment we ordered water and not wine. We had one bottle of $8 sparkling water and she seemed unhappy that we only drank tap water afterwards. when she brought us the bill she said I’m sorry you are not feeling well and didn’t enjoy the food and did not charge us for two dishes we sent back. When I explained that I had altitude sickness she seemed happy to offer me advice to drink lots of water and put a humidifier on. Over all I don’t think we would go back.
We had a wonderful waiter and the food was amazing. Loved the pork belly small plates and the mussels! The lamb was exceptional! Can’t wait to return!
Excellent food, untrained and disorganized servers.
We enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving feast in the beautiful atmosphere of Leonora. The limited choices were both traditional and inventive and beautifully presented. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. All in all it was a perfect Thanksgiving.
Dinner was amazing and breakfast was delicious. Staff are very courteous and very attentive. My first time trying Kir Royale and it was fantastic. The bartender was very knowledgeable when he was trying to make a good drink for me, he nail it! I will definitely be back in the future. Thanks for this amazing experience
We had scheduled a brunch reservation and we got there a few minutes early. We waited for 30 minutes after being seated and no service so we left. It was our anniversary weekend and we were hoping to enjoy tapas! It was too bad but will not be back!
Nice atmosphere, delicious food, service a bit slow but staff was very nice
The restaurant is really fantastic! Props to Chef Tyson, Danielle, and Delaney. They take good care of us.
Food was yummy. They had a great offer for Restaurant week.
A disaster from start to finish. The hostess informed us that they did not have a table for us (even though we had an open table reservation) so we were stuck at a bar hightop. They seemed to be extremely short staffed and we had to physically go get our waitress whenever we needed her - drinks, water, food, bill - she never once checked on us.. A couple next to us got fed up with the lack of service and left before ordering dinner. We saw multiple wrong orders delivered to tables, dishes were dropped, tempers flared, etc... When our dinner was served, the food looked like it had been haphazardly tossed onto the plates. The wait staff was completely overwhelmed and in full panic mode- which truly ruined our dining experience... That said, it was restaurant week- but that is no excuse for what we endured -management should have made sure they were prepared......
Food was good but service was terrible. Took 15 minutes to get sat (we had a reservation) and took almost 20 minutes to get greeted. Servers rarely came by to get drinks or anything. We will not be back
The food and the decor are great. Our service was very, very slow. It was hard to get water/drink refills and the staff forgot some food items. They did comp us some sides because the forgot them. I would try it again. It might have been on off night for them.
The food was absolutely delicious! We had small plates which allowed us to taste multiple dishes that did not disappoint! can’t wait to go back!
Third time at Leonora this summer for Sunday brunch and will be back again as soon as I am back in Vail.
Nice evening with great food and service! Be sure and try the carrots! They are amazing!
Food good, but we were only diners and space lacked any ambience. Staff spent more time resetting tables for next day than attending to us. It was off season, but not an excuse.
Entrees were small portions and were similar to tapas at an escalated price.
The watermelon gazpacho was superb and unique. Wine list had good, relatively reasonably priced wine available.
Chicken entree was over cooked (surprised?)
Our reservations were for outdoor seating but when we got to the restaurant there was an event outside and we had to sit inside. Inside was very nice, but empty and not what we were going for.
We opted for Leonora because we couldn't get in anywhere else in Vail that evening. Everything was fine but nothing was outstanding. It is their first summer to be open which the waiter explained and mentioned they weren't able to line up suppliers because the decision was made really late.
Slow but friendly service. Staff clearly not professional waiters, which is a common problem in resort areas. Food took a long time to prepare. Chicken was not cooked properly. They replaced it with another dish (Flank steak, tasty!) and to their credit did not charge us for this dish. Overall, the restaurant could be great with a bit more attention to detail and service.
Watermelon soup was wonderful but the strawberry rhubarb cake was truly memorable. We had fun and order 4 small tapas plates for the two of us plus the soup and had a wonderful evening
Wonderful experience. Food, drinks and service all top notch. We all enjoyed Adam, great bartender!
I wish I did not have to write such a good review.....selfishly I would like Leonora to remain undiscovered. Excellent food with very good service, generally pretty quiet (you could actually have a conversation with 6 people....tell me wheres you can do that)
The reason we chose Leonora was because they advertised their tapas - one of our favorites. That was the beginning of the problem. The tapas menu had maybe 3 vegetable selections, 2 fish & 2 meat - so very limited. The ceviche was bland & not worth eating - when I sent it back, they had an opportunity to take it off our bill or replace it with some thing else, or - but they did nothing. They kept asking when we wanted to order our main entree - so at least this sever wasn’t familiar with the multiple ordering nature of tapas, even though I told him we had come for the tapas. The other tapas we ordered were fine - especially creative was the brussel sprouts dish. The restaurant itself is lovely but quite pricey. Vail has so many other choices that we won’t be back here.
Great food! Shared several small plates and all was exceptional. Server was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.
