Service was wonderful and very accommodating for a food allergy.

Steakhouse
River North (Chicago)

MICHELIN-pedigreed chef Jenner Tomaska (Esmé) and Fifty/50 Group hospitality pros joined forces to create this upscale, French-leaning steakhouse in Gold Coast. Take in sweeping views of State Street as you enter the third-story restaurant filled with grand chandeliers and roving carts for tableside service. Start with caviar and Champagne before moving on to wood-fired steaks or a show-stopping duck à la presse. Head to the terrace for a nightcap of rare whiskey paired with dark chocolate.

Italian
Logan Square

With more than a decade under its belt, this cozy Logan Square restaurant continues to dive deep into the cuisine and wine of Italy’s Piedmont region, ranking it a favorite among industry insiders. Osteria Langhe’s laid-back vibe provides the perfect backdrop for refined dishes like artichoke flan and prosciutto-wrapped rabbit loin. Don’t miss the plin, a decadent housemade, cheese-stuffed pasta that’s been on the menu since day one.

We had a wonderful dinner at Osteria Langhe and it fully lived up to the hype. We shared three pastas: the Plin (house-pinched La Tur cheese agnolotti in thyme butter) was hands-down the best — delicate, perfectly pinched, and incredibly flavorful. The morel gnocchi and cacio e pepe were also excellent. My date loved the pan-seared Arctic Char with fregola, cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, and charred lemon — light, bright, and perfectly cooked. I went with the Bistecca (Slagel Farms prime beef) which was classic steak frites style, cooked perfectly with a nice char and served with crispy fries and rich jus. We paired it with a great bottle of Nebbiolo that complemented everything beautifully. Service was warm and attentive, the vibe is cozy and romantic, and the food felt authentically Piedmontese. Highly recommend — we’ll definitely be back. One of the best Italian meals we’ve had in Chicago.

French
River North (Chicago)

Named after a beloved French cartoon character, Obélix in River North is a destination for its playful approach to bistro classics. As you enter the space decked with burgundy banquettes, peek into the glass-enclosed kitchen for a preview of dishes that will land on your white tablecloth-clad table. Expect traditional paté en croute and steak tartare along with whimsical dishes like a foie gras-topped corn dog. Fitting the restaurant’s French roots, lunch here is an equally epic experience.
