It was a disappointing experience. My friends spoke highly of it and I was extremely hyped up looking at the menu since there was a lot on it that we liked (Octopus! Escargot! Charcuterie!). I must reiterate that the service was impeccable and our waiters were wonderful. The food was a letdown. It did not help that we were seated on a covered patio next to a very large party with two squalling toddlers.
Μy husband and I love cheese and charcuterie, unfortunately they didn’t have a combination plate so we ended up getting both. The, I’m not sure what it is, prosciutto? was tough and dry; the accoutrements were good, but not great. I would have preferred to get some mustard instead of their mustard/butter mixture, and my favorite piece on the charcuterie plate was the pepperoni. The cheese plate was good. Loved the Boursin, but I could go to Ralph’s and get that.
The pear salad had a great dressing but came with a mind-boggling amount of, I’m not sure what it was, creme fraiche? in the middle? Like literally a cup of it underneath the salad. My husband is lactose intolerant and thankfully I carried some lactaid on me at all time, but we left most of it uneaten. There was also some stale pieces of bread on it which I didn’t entirely understand. They weren’t croutons, they were just the soft dried innards of some bread.
The beef tartare, which both of us had greatly anticipated, was not great. The beef was grey and stringy, the quail egg came out mind-bogglingly fried instead of just the yolk on top of the tartare itself. And the fried egg was cold. It came with fries, which was unexpected and anticipated, but turned out to be worse than McD’a fries in that it was limp and cold. The coolness I can forgive, since I’m sure it sat around while we were finishing the other foodstuffs, but it was limp and sad and rather unappetizing.
The bread and butter was the best part of our meal.
We really are not food snobs by any means but this meal was a letdown.
This was our best meal while vacationing in Orange County. Truly special. Sadly, very noisy but otherwise perfect.
Couldn’t be better
Nice service, great food, wonderful atmosphere.
Exceptional experience, as always.
One of my favorite restaurant!
It’s a must try if you are a foodie
This was a wonderful dinner with excellent service. It is a bit pricier than it needs to be in regards to drinks/cocktails and some of the entrees. It makes sense with the type of cuisine and location; however, the drinks were not all that exceptionally made. All in all we would probably come back for a rare occasion, but it would probably not be somewhere we frequent.
The best restaurant in the OC. We keep coming back and always have a great meal and time!
I loved every dish and the ambience. Service was very good too. I will definitely go back.
We had the most wonderful birthday dinner — everything was perfect, from the food and desert to the service. A true French gem! Can’t wait to return very soon!
The service, ambiance and the staff were so nice, welcoming, approachable and made us feel very special. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. They allowed us to stay for a long period of time. We had that cute little hideaway 62 in the corner. The four-course tasting menu is excellent! We will be back soon.
Beautiful restaurant and amazing food with great service.
Always an amazing time and always amazing food.
We always have a great experience at Marche Moderne. It's perfect for a special occasion!
It was underwhelming this visit. The drinks were not balanced. The food bland. Chef was not in that day or present in the kitchen. Usually i leave feeling amazed and my palette in shock by how amazing everything was. Risotto was watery. Lobster over done in the Homage. Under seasoned.I would still recommend and continue visiting them. Just make sure Chef and Amelia is in
Amazing food, will definitely be back.
My waitress, Larissa, was stupendous. She made sure my experience was personal and went out of her way to make sure I had no wants or needs. I was celebrating my Alive Day alone and she was very compassionate, kind, friendly, and extremely helpful. I'm blessed to have her as my waitress.
The food was nothing short of delicious and presentable. I'm only sorry my stomach got too full too fast.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and intimate, with class and elegance in every corner. Clean and accommodating, as well.
It was our anniversary and hadn’t been out to dinner for awhile due to the pandemic. We chose Marché Moderne based on past experience. We have had great experience here in the past and this time it did not disappoint. Thank you all who served us and especially Jeffrey our waiter.
Celebrated my fiancé’s 28th birthday! Marche Moderne is always an amazing experience
Still the best restaurant in all of Orange County.
All good. One exception Some upper wines are overpriced and so the cork fee should be no more than $25.
This is not a restaurant, it is a dining experience!! The level of care in the quality of food was remarkable. The service was amazing and the environment well done indeed! We will return on a consistent basis for sure.
Amazing, fantastic, and incredible.
Great experience. Great service. Good food. I love appetizers
Excellent food and service
Excellent service, food and wine. Always have enjoyed dining here and absence during the pandemic has made made dining here that much more appreciated.
Birthday dinner for my husband
Food and service were fantastic as always. Highly recommend it.
This is my favorite restaurant in Newport.
Thank you for being in business after this hard time.
Good to be back and never disappointed. Always good foods.
Excellent every time I’ve dined here but is a bit in the pricey side. But so worth it.
I've reviewed them so positively so often, I risk poor taste in continuing to beat the drum.
Service was over the top exceptional and the food was exquisite. The atmosphere was perfect, inviting and very clean. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great French cuisine. Thank you for such an amazing experience!
Great food, the escargots are close to the real thing. Oysters are beyond delicious and definitely beating the Watergrill in Costa Mesa. Their specials were tasting amazing and please order the apple tarte. Extremely delicious. It was some time since we dined here, but definitely worth the effort driving down to NPBeach.
The service is excellent. We will come back again for the escargot and the filet mignon. They are exceptionally delicious. It is definitely a good value dinner with an outstanding service that we had for Sunday night. She was awesome 👌
As usual, the staff and chefs at Marche Moderne did a wonderful job. Very knowledgeable staff, great specials, terrific wine list, and dishes that impress both the palate and the eye. Thanks!
The Hamachi Crudo and the cheese plate were top notch.
Excellent french cuisine like in Paris. Reasonable pricing
