Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.
Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."
We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.
Take the 1 train to Christopher St/Sheridan Square and walk south (toward Grove St) on West 4th, 4 blocks. Continue south on 6th Ave 2 blocks to Minetta Lane, and 2 blocks east to MacDougal St.
What Insiders Are Saying
Minetta Tavern in Greenwich Village is home to some of the best steaks, chops, burgers, and overall feel good vibes that New York City has to offer.
Burger is 🔥
Our server was a little rude at different points through out the meal but we know this is a rare occurrence. Our previous meal have always been great. Back waiters were stellar as usual!!! Food was amazing as usual! Burger was better at our last visit but it was a busy Friday night. We will be back the next time we’re in town.
Promptly seated, food came out quick, waiter was knowledgeable and made good suggestions. Will definitely go again
Always an amazing time at Minetta Tavern! I love everything about it. The food, the drinks, the staff and the atmosphere are all on point.
Always the best burger!
I love this place so much - it's painful. I mean I feel physical pain when I'm not eating there.
Food was just OK and overpriced.
We thought it deserved the Best Burger in Town title. Super nice service too. Great experience.
Cool place. Great service. EXCELLENT $30 burger that came with the crispiest we asked for all chocolate (you get a small coffee, vanilla, & chocolate) and the server noticed immediately that we got the standard one and immediately replaced it. We both had salads for starters which were fresh and generously portioned. I’d go back in s heartbeat - next time we visit the city!
Fantastic, came back after a 4 year absence and couldn't have had a better experience.
Perfect, from appetizers to dessert... Employees are very friendly. Food is delicious. Recommend it.
The black label burger was quite good. It was a plain burger that hit all the right spots. Nothing fancy but worth every penny. The fries that came with it were equally refreshingly good. They were everything I would wish for in McDonald’s fries but also much more elegantly cooked and seasoned.
The burger and the fries didn’t come with any condiments. Not even ketchup. I wonder if that’s intentional.
The service was ok. The waitress was a little pushy when we wanted to skip the appetizers. But when we weren’t happy about the croissant being cold, she immediately brought one warmed up to us on the house.
TLDR: get the burger.
Best burger in NYC! No debate. Possibly best burger in the U.S. I have never had a burger experience like this. Perfectly charred in the outside to where you quite literally get the same taste every bite. Just incredible.
Burger was great. Steak was excellent. Wonderful experience.
Awesome spot in Greenwich - can’t beat the atmosphere and coziness. Food really good and service fantastic
Today was my third time in Minetta, always the food was wonderful. It's worth the visit.
Food was good but did not prepare our steaks to requested temperature, did not send back it would have been forever to correct. . My husbands burger was raw not cooked, that was not how he requested it prepared. Was seated at a booth right by the service station and kitchen, servers kept coming though every two minutes with dirty dishes. If they seat you their do not stay, request another table or leave it is absolutely not worth it. We also waited almost an hour for our food. No one cleared our dirty dishes. Would not return.
Expensive but delicious !
Our waiter was clueless, served our party wrong orders and was being rude.
Food was a little bland.
Food was absolutely incredible, waitstaff, and entire experience was spectacular.
Only the burger was recommended!
cocot, salad were not that special.
The burgers are all they’re cracked up to be, and our waiter (Tony) could not have been sweeter. Definitely going back
My family & I were in the city enjoying Christmas festivities. Minetta Tavern was a wonderful addition to the day!
Atmosphere was fantastic, service was great, but food was disappointing
Birthday dinner for my wife. They did a great job
Best burger in NYC bar none
Totally enjoyed Minetta Tavern. The food was wonderful and the service was friendly, warm and truly efficient. Had brunch prior to a holiday concert, I was early for my reservation which did not cause any issues and we were not "hurried" out. It was a lovely experience and I would go back to try so many wonderful dishes I had no room for! Great experience.
The noise level a bit high but not too uncomfortable
I can’t get enough of this place. It’s just so good. The cocktails were perfect, the Bone Marrow is possibly my favorite thing in all of NYC. And the Black Label Burger.. just incredible. We were there for my girlfriends 35th Birthday and they put us in the best little corner booth. The service was fantastic- they even gave us a dessert with a candle on the house! Highly recommended!
First time at Minetta Tavern. Our party of four
Grilled oysters (with pancetta-fresno chili butter) were excellent. We both ordered the Black Label Burger, (Rare). Waited 45 minutes between appetizer and receiving the burgers, both of which arrived Medium. Server never came to check on things so not only did we not have a chance to address the issue, but after waiting so long we didn't want to wait any longer to eat (we had already waited 30m past our reservation time too). Disappointing for a place that prides itself on this burger, let alone at $33. Ambiance is great.
Celebratory lunch with my nephew. We ordered a bloody mary and a diet coke that took ten minutes to arrive. Very strange bloody Mary which appeared to just be made wrong. Burgers were excellent as were the french fries! Service was slow and although the waiter walked past our table quite often (seated near kitchen pickup window), never offered to refill water or ask if we wanted a drink. Have had better table and bar service in past visits, this was an off day.
Loved my seat by the door in the back room! Very fast service and homy vibe
Burger was great. Bone marrow app good. Steak frites and Pommes Anna were mediocre
Fantastic Black Label Burguer. Old school restaurant.
The Foie Gras and Bone Marrow are amazing. Exceptional service. So classy, but not stuffy . Warm, friendly, delish .
Never disappoints. Burger is best ever!
Fantastic raw scallop starter as well as scallop entree. Love this place!
Nothing special. I had the burger which is considered one of the best dish in their menu and wasn’t that good... it wasn’t easy to digest. Lots of fries and little quality. I had way better burgers in my life and they were definitely cheaper than the minetta burger.
when I explained I had modified my reservation over the phone to accommodate 3 instead of 2 to the matre'd, he gave me this incredulous look and told me to go get a drink at the bar, waving me to the bar. The words 'please' and 'thank you' are non existent in his vocab. When we are finally shown to our seats, no one gives us menus for 10 mins and when the waiter shows up , he asks us if we have any questions. And we said we need to see the menu, he responds 'how did this happen' without apologizing for the wait he put us through. The only reason this review gets a 3 star is the bone marrow, which was luxurious and perfectly cooked and prepped. The Black label burger is overrated. I think shake shack was better and the service at shake shack is far superior.
Very nice ambiance even though very crowded and noisy for a brunch experience. Good drinks. Bone marrow stood to its reputation, baked oysters were very good but a bit salty. Disappointment was in the steak frites: fries were over cooked and did not have the distinctive taste of frites but of regular French fries. Steak was average. Ask for mustard and you will get the real deal (French and oh so strong) which will make up so greatly for the dish itself.
