Mirai Sushi in the Gold Coast area of Chicago offers fine sushi and Japanese fare in an upscale restaurant atmosphere. Guests at Mirai Sushi in Gold Coast are invited to enjoy the menu filled with vegetarian options, meat dishes, spicy and mild favorites and more. Start your meal with miso soup or lamb carpaccio.
The chef's special rolls are a local favorite at Mirai Sushi in Gold Coast. Try the spicy mono, an octopus roll made with spicy tuna tartare and sweet unagi sauce. Main dishes include nigiri made with baked king crab, fried rice served with bacon, onions and garlic, beef tenderloin and more.
Excellent sushi in an unlikely spot. This tiny restaurant at the bottom of the Hilton hotel on Mies van der Rohe Way street is worth a trip for any real sushi fan.
We have eaten at the Wicker park Marai many times. We love the food and the service there was fine. The service last night was awful. We ordered miso soup and seaweed salad when we sat down received the soup got our seaweed salad about halfway into the meal after asking for it 3 times. They brought my husbands sushi order then took it away then returned approximately 25 minutes later with the correct order. They did not end up charging us for the salad but we had to repeatedly ask for water. Pretty much beg for attention for service.
Disappointing experience at this, up until now, our favorite sushi place in Chicago. Service was very slow. It seems that they have changed staff. We hope that they get it together so that we can once again enjoy this little restaurant.
Great hospitality and wonderful food!
This is our favorite Sushi restaurant, period. The sushi is clean and always fresh. There are also interesting choices of other dishes (shrimp togorashi, bin cho salad, fried rice, tuna tuna shrimp maki roll and more, even the seaweed salad is great). The Golf Coast location is small, in a good way. Best to have a reservation. Wouldn’t go with more than 6 people. The sakitini is a light refreshing martini. The service is personal and friendly. Excellent.
Wow. What an amazing meal. Best sushi of my life. I will be back.
VERY GOOD AND DINING AT SUSHI BAR IS WONDERFUL
WINE LIST NICE
RESTAURANT VERY COSY
Sushi was incredibly fresh! There were many creative options. I will definitely return!
The food was good but not the caliber of the original in Wicker Park. The atmosphere is small, stark and cold.
Though I didn't love the restaurant environment, the sole reason I won't return is service.
The Server was cold and seemed annoyed from the start of our meal. We rarely had her stop at our table and we waited with dirty plates in front of us for more than 15 minutes at the end of dinner...had to call her over for our check.
Though Open Table accepted the reservation it was a Monday evening and when I put the address in my GPS it came up "Closed." When I told the Host what had happened he corrected me that is was the Wicker Park address that was closed on Monday...he should have looked up what I was telling him to see for himself vs. correcting me and I'm sure given the lack of attention that issue has not been resolved online.
I was entertaining my boss who is a sometime sushi eater, this was not the experience I had anticipated given my typically stellar service and attention at the Division location.
We decided to try this sushi restaurant because we were staying at the Hilton so it was convenient and it had good reviews. When we first looked at the menu I wasn't sure what to to think since it wasn't a typical sushi menu with 30 different standard rolls to choose from. I'm so glad it wasn't! The sashimi was unbelievably fresh, and just melted in your mouth. The waiter was attentive and provided suggestions to us throughout the meal. His recommendations were not the highest priced items, and he recommended trying them from light to heavy. Everything was fantastic, highly recommended!
Absolutely wonderful! Outstanding food and service!
This is a great sushi restaurant. Even though the menu could be more varied, what Mirai does it does well and the quality of the unagi is the best that I have enjoyed. This is our favorite restaurant when we are in Chicago.
I always hesitate to write a review for here, in the fear that it'll be harder to get a table, but this is a gem. It's intimate, and has great quality fish, and the best service you can imagine. We live in the neighborhood, and visit frequently.
The food and wait service was great! The fish is exceptional. The host was less friendly and accommodating and there is not much room to wait (we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time).
Very small and cozy. Great cocktails and specialty sushi rolls.
Server was disre
Attentive and friendly service. Incredible food. A must visit spot!
Amazing sushi and
It did not disappoint!
Hmm, I am not sure how I feel about Mexican sushi chefs....there has been a change in ethnicity
since my last visit. Somehow, I expect Japanese sushi chefs. What would Jiro think? The years of training just to make the perfect rice.... somehow, a few months behind the sushi bar does not compute. I will take a pass....I prefer Japanese sushi chefs.
While I wasn't impressed, my wife thought it was very good. The staff didn't seem to be very organized and it took forever to get our order in. The people a few tables down came in much later, and was served well before we were. The first plate of sushi looked different that what I thought I ordered but I ate it anyway. As the night wore on, my wife and I became aware that the first dish I ate was someone else's order! Oh well.....I think that the quality is dependent on what is ordered. In the dark ages when I use to live in Chicago, seafood was always a "dicey" order given that shipping is not what it is like today. Overall, I would probably give it another try the next time I'm in Chicago
Love this restaurant. Small menu but everything is fantastic!
Small place, but nice atmosphere. We sat at the sushi bar. The food was good and reasonably priced. I’m happy we ate there.
Mirai Sushi - Gold Coast, in general, is a very good place when you want to try specialty rolls and a great variety of sashimi & nigiri. Sometimes service decreases a bit when its busy, but its normal. Since I come here very often, sometimes the host can get moody and my friends and I feel uncomfortable. It's a very small restaurant, I think around 24 seats in the whole restaurant so reserving a spot for a table is preferable, especially on weekends.
It is too bad that an exceedingly rude server made this a miserable experience. While the maki was top notch, the actions of the server were not only unprofessional, but downright rude. Inattentive, constantly running into the table and myself while serving, and spending additional time on other tables while ignoring our needs, I am not sure the exceptional food was worth the issues. Unfortunate. In the end, after paying, we chose to sit and enjoy our conversation, and our server took our bill holder back, looked inside, threw it, and glared at my guest in anger at, presumably, the 15% tip.
I have been both of Mirai's locations in Wicker Park and Gold Coast. While the Wicker location is much larger and has a more lively atmosphere, the Gold Coast location is perfect for an intimate dinner with family, friends or a date. The food is always phenomenal and the service is fantastic. I would recommend making a reservation, particularly for groups over two because the space is quite small.
The food is really great. The nigiri and togarashi are amazing. However, this place has a space problem. Every time I go there to eat, they make us wait for at least 15-20 minutes although we made reservations. Last time, they could not even give us a table and asked us to sit at the bar. The receptionist is not very polite. He seems resigned to the fact that he does not have enough tables for guests. He could be a little more welcoming.
Surly host, indifferent waiter. Food was high quality, but service was poor, bordering on hostile. Servers didn't know who got what or even which table to bring the food. We cancelled part of the order (a simple teka maki for a child) after a 25 minute wait.
Amazing place! Loved every minute! Food was fabulous and I’ve eaten sushi for 35 years!
Try dragonroll. You will never regret. I love the freshness of sashimi and quiet atmosphere. The one thing you should know is this place is very small.
Again - EXCELLENT sushi - great service. We ALWAYS come to Mirai!
Great, fresh nigiri, inventive handrolls, and a friendly, efficient staff in a quiet corner near the Lake.
Simply the BEST Sushi in Chicago. Fresh, creatively prepared, and excellent service!
As always, the food is a 10/10, but the service is so bad. We had a reservation, but didn't get seated until 25 minutes after our reservation time. Service is slow and not attentive. The food is so good though.
Sushi is excellent. Waiters very helpful in describing the selections!
This restaurant has fast become one of my favorites in Chicago. This is coming from a person that is new to the sushi scene.
We celebrated a birthday over a chef's tasting menu. We enjoyed most of the dishes we were served especially the fresh sashimi.
Such delicious sushi!! Right next door to our hotel. Service was quick but didn't feel rushed-- just super efficient. Sushi was super fresh and shrimp togarashi was delicious! Simple but fantastic.
Service wasn't great: Rushes you out (probably required because of the limited space), didn't really talk to us about what was on offer, good, or on special, and didn't seem to want us there, which is a first for me. Mixed Drinks were terrible.
Ambiance is fine. There is no space, unless you're in the one table that is by itself.
That said, all of the food was fantastic and we'll continue to go back. There's no comparable Sushi restaurant within walking distance.
By far, the best sushi in Chicago.
