What Insiders Are Saying
Mon Ami Gabi is a classic French bistro in an upscale Lincoln Park residential building.
Delicious food, friendly helpful staff—one of our favorite restaurants world-wide!
Mon Ami Gabi never disappoints. The food is outstanding but the service tops it all. We were fortunate to have John at our table and he made our meal so much fun. Thank you!
Service was fantastic, but I regret getting the steak au poivre -- it was just bland. Best part of the meal was the bread & wine, and of course the beautiful outdoor seating.
Our server who never gave us his name was trash. didnt bother to ask how our meals were and seemed lazy.
This was a most enjoyable evening, sitting outside on the patio. The food was terrific and reasonably priced, and everyone was so very friendly. My wife and I enjoyed it very much.
Superb place for good French food. The ambiance is outstanding.
My daughter has various food allergies and they have them in their database so it’s a seamless process. High quality ingredients. Attentive servers & staff
Love Mon Ami Gabi. Sitting outside with the view of the park and enjoying excellent food. What more could you ask!
Server Amy was fantastic, great recommendations and fun personality!
The restaurant was overbooked with wedding parties the kitchen was backed up. Long wait to get valet to take car.
I have had better experiences at Mon Ami Gabi.
A French menu without gobs of butter on every dish, but true to the cuisine.
Mon Ami Gabi never lets me down. It's a true Chicago staple that has consistently good food and wine, plus ambiance and that stellar Lettuce Entertain You service.
Nice restaurant. Ate outside on the patio. Food is always good, this is not our first visit here. Would go again.
We loved it as usual. The hostess and especially the manager could be more welcoming and friendly. The manager doesnt even look at you. NO HOSPITALITY but our server,, Amy was excellent!
Great for Outdoor exploring just walk over to the gardens in front of the zoo
The evening started with making a reservation on line.
This was a birthday celebration.
The restaurant was not honoring reservation. Ones you valet parking at $14 for 2 cars. You wait a few minutes. The manager offered drinks at the bar and wait for 30-45 minutes. The manager then said allow him to work on reducing the wait. The manager worked and a 45 minute wait shrunk into 15 minutes.
The got seats and we order just desserts.
We ordered being in a fog from the commotion just trying to keep our reservation .
We have Cream cream Brulé times to apple tart with cinnamon ice cream on the side and the big Lovett profiterole's. The profiterole's were over the top chocolate dripping all over the plate just good eating.
We shall return for a full meal next time, hopefully it won't rain and enforce all the people sitting outside to come inside, take up all the seating.
Got to the restaurant bit early and the requested outdoor seating was not ready. But after ten minutes sipping wine at the bar, the host took us outdoors, right on time. The menu is always appealing, with at least six selections of steak. The special was lamb. One if us had steak au pointe and needed to bring part of it home for lunch the next day. The trout almandine was perfect and the green beans tasted like they were right from the garden. The patio is a beautiful place to watch the neighborhood stroll by. We were just about to share a dessert when it started to rain. The waiter suggested we finish in the hotel lobby, which was a perfect ending to the night.
The food was lovely, however the service was truly not. We were initially sitting outside with excellent service, but when it started to rain, all of the tables were moved inside. This is not an easy thing for the wait staff, so we were very patient and chill. However, after about 30 mins, we slowly realized that we were truly a forgotten table. We didn't have menus until about 35 mins in, the waiter didn't notice that we did not have utensils, and we had had to ask for a water glass with a bug to be removed and replaced----but the replacement never came until we asked again about 45 mins later. It was almost comical as we observed the waiter warmly engaged with all of the tables around us, but barley checking in on us---and we spent nearly $200 that night. So, while the food was great and the atmosphere very cute, the service was super poor, making for a nice night out not as great as expected. I would certainly go again---our first server was great, so maybe it was just an off night for this guy---but that off night made for our special night out not as nice.
A never miss at Mon Ami Gabi ...in summer the outdoor terrace is a dream. At all times the service is professional and the food is a delight. Our favorite restaurant.
We are there at least twice a month. Their power was out when we arrived. They claimed they had no phone lines. They all have cell phones. They could’ve each called the patrons and told him not to come. It cost us cab fare to and from. Very irresponsible on the management part.
We obviously love this restaurant we are there all the time. And have been for nearly 2 decades. But this was inexcusable. It was stormy and we got wet for no reason. Complete waste of an evening.
Always a nice experience here. John the manager is fantastic and makes guests feel welcome. Our server was also excellent. Thank you!
Perfect place for celebrating with friends. The ambiance, food and service were a perfect complement to spending a wonderful evening with good friends.
Our food took awhile. When my eggs Benedict was cold. Cold ham cold egg. My bfs quiche was also cold. Manager took it back and brought us hot food. Was very dmgoif the second time ! Manager was very polite and gave a generous discount. Our waiter was blasé about the whole thing. Nice decor. Variety Of menu choices. Based on managers professionalism I would definitely go back :(
Always superb.... food, cocktails, service and ambiance. 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved food , delisious cocktails and bread. Hostess can be more friendly .
Great service and excellent steak tartare and escargot.
Reception staff were rude. Had to wait well after our reservation time. Far from the level of courtesy you should expect when paying this much
There were six of us and we were celebrating my mother's birthday. Typically LEYE restaurants are great value, service, and ambiance. I didn't find this to be the case tonight - more it felt obvious to all of us that the server was primarily interested in upselling. This was evidenced by how she didn't take our entree order until after the appetizers were served but continually asked if we'd like another drink. It felt very deliberate as the MO on a Saturday night. After spending more than $400, that's pretty annoying.
Furthermore, it was frustrating that the busboys filled our water glasses up every five minutes but didn't make any effort to help clean the table. By the end of the night, the paper on the table was filthy. Side note: I find it offensive when restaurants have $25+ entrees and they put a piece of paper on a white table cloth - it's evidence that they're only interested in turning the table.
All in all, I will give LEYE another try (hard to avoid) but will likely never return to MAG. It's sad because my wife hosted our wedding shower there and it's a restaurant where our parents first met while we were still dating.
My favorite restaurant for everyday AND special occasions. Great service, food and ambiance.
It was delightful
Been here many times. Never noticed how dark it is in the restaurant. Really can’t see what you are eating. Only order Caesar Salad if you want a ton of tasteless cheese drowning the fish. Steak tartare was Ok. My companions loved their salmon and trout.
I've loved this place for more than 30 years. We've celebrated birthday's anniversaries, long time friends coming into town, the birth of our son, everyday events....and the list goes on. The location is lovely as is the authentic French ambiance inside (year round) and out (in the summer). The food is consistently delicious whether coming for the same thing each time or to try something new. We will come back again, and again, and again....
Go to restaurant when visiting Chicago. Very consistent. Great meals.
I absolutely love Mon Ami Gabi!!!
Perfect food, ambiance and super service!!!
It wasn't my first experience with Mon Ami Gabi ... which is always great on my many visits. But this visit made special, memorable and so much better by the friendliness and charm of Jake, tending the bar, and our waiter for Sunday brunch. Find Jake ... ask for him !!!
Lovely spot located in lincoln park across from the zoo. Lots of locals and tourists, it is situated in the stratford hotel. We brought our kiddos ages 3-6 and they loved it. Kids menu is well priced and generous portions, we ordered mac and cheese as we planned on sharing the 22oz bonein ribeye. My 3 yo couldn't get enough of the steak, juicy and tender. Mussels were okay, just steamed in butter and garlic no broth. Kale salad, duck confit were good, but will prob order something else on our next visit.
We loved Gabi. Tenderloin medallions and filet were nicely done. Sea salt caramel chocolate dessert was to DIE for!
Excelente experience! The food, the ambiance, the service, we loved everything! It’s definitely worth a visit. This is a cozy, charming piece place.
Our server did not have a clue. Loved the restaurant service was bad but the food was great
Don, 304, our server, was not attentive to our table; he would help others and would not even look our way — had to call him a few times or ask someone else to get him for us. Also, the ambiance was quite loud he had trouble hearing us.
