What Insiders Are Saying
Mon Ami Gabi is a classic French bistro in an upscale Lincoln Park residential building.
Wonderful restaurant. Everything they serve is delicious. Eric was a fabulous waiter too
Food was not good. Oysters were tiny. Crème Brule was burnt. Very bad experience and will not go back!
Fabulous food...wonderful service! Amanda was our server...she is delightful...super fun and very attentive!
Love the ambience, the service, the wine selection, and the fact that they have gluten free options for food. Always enjoy my visits to Mon Ami Gabi!
Always a family fave! Love the baguettes and the Skatewing! Perfect Plymouth martini! Kids love the hanger steak + frites. Great french bistro vibe in the heart of Lincoln Park.
Great service from bartender and waitress. Didn’t remind me to take my drink to the table but did pour me another when I came back for it. Busboy took bread without asking if finished. Seemed a little funny about ya wanting a box for our steak. Food was excellent except trout didn’t have much flavor and was a little dry. Loved our waitress!
John was a great waiter
Love this place...We went here for Sunday Brunch and it was lovely. Our server was fabulous. And, even though our orders didn't come out perfectly, they did an amazing job fixing them and handling things professionally. We will be back!
Nice atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable server. Steaks were tasty and cooked as ordered. Had not been there for a while but will definitely return!
This place is always amazing. Had friends in from out of town. Service and food were fantastic and the restaurant is such a warm and inviting place. Great feel good place to escape to during the Chicago winters.
We have been a big fan of MON AMI for years. Food and service is consistently very very good. All the wait staff has been working there for years and it shows! They always make you feel welcome. Ambiance is cozy with an old world Parisian charm.
Wonderful! As always, perfect!
Without even trying to listen in, in the conversation of the table adjoining ours, I heard the words "Socialism", "Oliver Cromwell", and "Teresa May". Classy,....but my daughter thought the mention of Cromwell was a bit of "old news" (17th century to be exact).
Everything on the menu and daily specials - all are fantastic. We dine here often because of the wonderful food, terrific service and great value. Highly recommended!
The food was excellent. The service was good. A great local restaurant.
I've always been very happy with the food -- no change this time. The bread is the best bread of any restaurant. At this visit with family, two from out of town, I requested as private a table as they could provide, and they came thru with a round table in a corner. (This restaurant is small on space, and many tables are right next to others in a line, with maybe 12 inches between tables.)
I have to eat strictly gluten free for medical reasons, and I don't trust very many restaurants to prepare food that is safe for me to eat. I trust Mon Ami Gabi and they are my go-to for special occasions. They have an outstanding gluten free menu and their servers are very well-informed on how to handle a guest with dietary restrictions and food allergies. Their food is outstanding, and I always look forward to the gluten free French onion soup!
One of my go-to places when it gets cooler. It feels like a real French bistro with a great wine list and amazing food. Service is exceptional.
Great Food and ambiance!
Great service and suitable for a non-casual outing.. The overall experience was a great one. Waitress was quite friendly and treated me no different from the other people. The only problem, if you are black and looking for other people of color, this isn't where you gonna find it.
Our first time here in years, we liked it OK and will return to check it out further ... but it’s not love yet.
The menu selections and the specials are classic French bistro. Our house starter salad was well above general salad quality with a dressing that made it come alive. My trout almandine entree was a “B” but my wife’s mussels were small and not especially tasty and the broth surrounding them was weak. Mussels vary depending on source and season, but these weren’t up to serving.
The waitress and servers were pleasant and efficient, though we had to remind them more than once not to take one entree plate while the other diner was still eating.
The ambiance is wonderful, very older style bistro.
“IS THE GOLDEN ERA OF MON AMI GABI GONE?”
My last dinner there was the second time where I was not seated in my preferred table listed in my preferences, despite making an early-seating reservation!
The “host with a trimmed beard” literally “ordered” us to follow him to the side table where we got seated. By the way, there were plent empty round tables available. Furthermore, I confirmed my order with my server twice but did not get exactly what I asked for-needed to change side dish.
Change is usually good but not in my recent experiences with this fine restaurant.
Enjoyed the food but wouldn't say it was exceptional. My husband's filet was cooked well, but lacked flavor. My mother's Halibut special was dry - she needed to ask for a sauce. Scallops were delicious as was the trout that I had. Desserts were wonderful! Service was great, but, we still felt rushed since our entrees were brought out while some of us were still having appetizers. This meant the food went back to the warmer resulting in food not right out of the kitchen and soggy fries in one case! This was disappointing since we had told our server that we wanted our courses spaced out. If we had known the food would have been out so quickly, we would not have ordered our entrees when we ordered appetizers. Lesson learned if we come back to Mon Ami Gabi. Probably not our favorite of the Lettuce Entertainment group of restaurants, but we still had an enjoyable evening with our group.
Love this place - neighborhood gem with great food and wonderful staff.
Ok experience, service was a bit slow and not very enthusiastic.
Wonderful evening, new for my daughter, many returns for me..
Outstanding food, great ambiance, professional management and friendly service...have been going there for decades and it is always a five-star experience
We always love visiting Mon Ami. The food is great, service efficient and a nice atmosphere.
Excellent value and service. Lively, fun French Bistrot style cafe. Has great patio facing the park in the summer. Love all the steak-frites options!
Always the best!!!
Always a reliable choice. The food might have improved since our last visit.
The service should be better for a restaurant of this quality. We had some timing issues and
a neighboring table had many lapses in their service.
Some of the oval plates are very difficult to eat off of, especially if you are at a small dark table.
You can not put the utensils anywhere-they fall into your food.
First rate moderately priced modern French spot. Friday Dover Sole is highlight but quality supine overall
Consistently delicious food, service and atmosphere. One of our favorites in all of Chicago. Warm french baguettes and escargot are where we start.
This was out 1st visit in about a year, but we quickly remembered how wonderful this restaurant is. It's also one the the very few restaurants that serve the Fish known a Skate. It was as wonderful as I remembered. Well shall return !!
We were seated right away even though we were early. Our server was gracious even though the place was packed. This was my second time here and I love the place.
Was a fantastic dinner other then in my reservation asked for a nice table by window and said I would wait to be seated, but instead they put us right at the entrance of the kitchen and bathroom so a lot of traffic and not a lot of space. We had to keep scooting out of way for waitress to get to other table on corner, just not a table you would like to spend a anniversary dinner at.
Food was very good and service was great! A must to visit!
Especially attentive service and a great meal. The sparkling rose toast was a lovely and unexpected touch. Perfect for our birthday celebration.
