What Insiders Are Saying
Mon Ami Gabi is a classic French bistro in an upscale Lincoln Park residential building.
Have been going here for 25+ years. Always good.
Four of ur were there to celebrate my husbands birthday. Everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the Crispy Duck Confit appetizer. Perfectly prepared and nice to share. Our two guests had never been to Mon Ami, and were pleasantly surprised by the incredible quality of the food. For dinner our group orded the Au Poivre with brandy peppercorn sauce, the Au Poivre Bearnaise, the Plat du Jour short-rib dinner, and the Poisson du Jour. While all were fantastic, we all agreed that the short-ribs, which were melt in your mouth delicious, took the price. Dessert was a Profiteroles and Gala Apple Tarte Tartin which we all shared.
Service are very rush. Couple dishes we order are two salty. escargot & the dover sole).
Favorite date spot. Wonderful service.
Great as always
Love everything about mon Ami
A great spot in a historic Neighborhood
Love the cozy French atmosphere. Our steaks were delicious and loved the mussels with a full loaf of French bread for dipping in the incredible sauce.
Overall a perfect evening with my wife.
Dinner was great with good food, great service and the restaurant was at a good noise level for a conversation.
Mon Ami Gabi has an authentic bistro vibe. The food is outstanding and the service attentive. This is the third time we've come for a special evening. Twice we came for family celebrations and the third time was for a business event. Each evening was a smashing success. The food is delicious and the wine list extensive. The fish and steaks were cooked perfectly!
Always love to go to Mon Ami Gabi
Food is always excellent
Go to destination restaurant with excellent choices of food and wine. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. We split an opener salad three ways cheerfully delivered on 3 plates. Very accommodating to an elderly person with a walker in our party.
Was not expecting it to be so good!!!! I will definitely return, gluten free options. The French onion soup, the Brussels sprouts, steak and fries were delicious. Not to mention the gluten free desserts!!!!!!!
Too noisy but good food and service.
Table near us was obnoxiously loud using profanity and wish servers would have addressed
Food was fabulous always. Service was a bit lax. Server was nowhere to be found a few times and wine delivery was delayed and still not delivered by the time our entrees arrived. We were disappointed and canceled the wine bottle order because of that but the manager, Dave, came through to make things right and offered free glasses of wine with refills if we had wanted. He really turned the situation around. Thanks, Dave!
One of our favorite places to dine as a couple or with Family...the outdoor patio is especially delightful in the warm months!
Great food and service was good. Unfortunately, we had a table behind us of about 8 and there were two women who were so loud that it was very disruptive even over the rest of the regular sounds in the restaurant.
The steak was amazingly tender— not the rubber one would expect from a Parisian bistro! Excellent Bordelaise sauce. The chicken was delicious with an assortment of mushrooms and excellent broth for the potatoes. Even the house wine was great.
It’s a French bistro. Expect all of what that means. Tables close together, loud, etc... They have a fairly standard bistro menu. I had the escargots. They were good but not outstanding. Not enough flavor to the butter. I had the skate and that was fantastic. My daughter ordered steak rare and it was cooked perfectly. The desserts were good examples of what they were if a little plain. We went because we were going to zoolites after and it was close. That worked out great.
Samantha was an amazing waitress. We had a great time and will come back again
Great location if you are going to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Great bistro food.
We have been to Mon Ami Gabi twice in one month and borh times we had a wonderful time. On Jan 4 we celebrated my husband’s birthday our server was David. We dine out A LOT and I normally dont write reviews but I feel I had to write something now because David is a perfect example of what a professional server is,his energy, knowledge and timing on everything was spot on despite the restaurant having a full house. He stands out in every way and made our evening memorable. There is an abundance of bad service, lack of knowledge, lack attention to detail in the restaurant service in Chicago,we have been regularly dissapointed at many places.I hope David is making lots of money at Mon Ami Gabi and I hopr he is as appreciated as he deserves.
Good service best server
Love this restaurant. One of our neighborhood spots.
We brought our 16-year old granddaughter for her first visit to Mon Ami Gabi. She absolutely loved the restaurant. Thank you so much for making special "mocktails" for her. The restaurant is a neighborhood gem which my husband and I have enjoyed for years - now the younger generation appreciates it too!
I had a reservation for dinner with a group of friends. I was celebrating my Birthday. They seated all 11 of us. The food was delicious. I can tell everyone enjoyed by their empty plates. The Classic Steak and Hanger Steak is delicious. Just the right size to satisfy light beef eaters.
Food is typical French bistro fare, with a focus on steaks. We had mainly seafood, which was well executed.
The room was pleasant but rather cold.
We had some service hiccups, the most serious of which involved a birthday not being acknowledged by our server, who seemed new and inexperienced. As I left, I confirmed with the hostess stand that the server should have been aware of the birthday. Other service gaffes were covered by the busboy, a very competent Latino gentleman.
Overall it was a good experience, mainly because the rest of my family was pleased.
We loved our NYE dinner at Mon Ami Gabi! We had a reservation at 10:15, and were seated right as we walked in. The NYE decorations were very cute, and the employees were all dressed up which was a nice touch. Our waitress was amazing and kindly asked us if we needed to leave at a certain time to be elsewhere by midnight. We didn't have any other plans for the night, so she informed us that they were doing a midnight champagne toast. Anyways, the food was out of control. The bone-in filet mignon with truffle butter and mac and cheese on the side was seriously great. Also, don't skip the baked goat cheese - it's incredible. Can not believe how well priced everything was, too. I'd 100% recommend to anyone, and will definitely be returning in the future.
I come to this restaurant fairly often. I wish they would run more (2-3) daily specials. The food is very good, but more variety would be appreciated.
After a fantastic New Year's Eve dinner here, we've decided that this is, hands down, our favorite restaurant in Chicago. Our meal was fantastic. We started off each with a glass of Pouilly-Fousse. Just divine. I always start with the Frisee salad (frisse, kale, lardons, and crouton chips) and it is one of my favorite salads to order at any restaurant. My partner had the escargot which I had as part of my meal. I ordered two appetizers: escargot and duck confit. I love escargot in the herbed butter (hate it when a restaurant puts the escargot in puff pastry) and it was hot, buttery, garlicky, and just perfect. But even better than the escargot: the duck confit. The duck was cooked PERFECTLY! The skin was crisp and crackling, the meat juicy and tender. Duck doesn't get better than this. But wait, there's more. It's served on a bed of braised red cabbage, also cooked perfectly and works great with the duck. My partner ordered steak frites. He asked for filet mignon but got a sirloin steak. He asked, just to make sure, the waiter apologized and offered to get him a filet but he was really happy with the sirloin, said it was cooked perfectly and he ate every bite. We split a creme brulee for dessert which was an unusual choice for me because I usually hate creme brulee but this was fantastic. The crust of burnt sugar was hot and burnt perfectly but the vanilla bean creme underneath was cold. We kept remarking on it as we ate it. Then the bill came and they comped the steak which was entirely unnecessary. I'm sure there are a lot of uptight people out there who would throw hissy fits about this but my partner looked on it as a stroke of luck because he loved the sirloin. Just wonderful people who work there and who manage the place (the manager came over to apologize about the filet and we told him it was fine).
. Been here several times over the years. Always pleased. Always looking forward to the next opportunity to return!
I had a lovely time. I dined alone and I never felt rushed and had a wonderful waitress
A Happy Rediscovery! Hadn’t been here in a while. Craved steak and frites, so booked it up. Still bustling, as a bistro should be, which adds to the French experience. Melt-in-your-mouth food, good wine, great service, and amazing value for the money. We’ll be back sooner next time!
Our go-to spot for a nice dinner that doesn’t feel stuffy!
11th Anniversary w husband. Very nice, romantic corner booth. Booth/ service both excellent
Old stand-by restaurant that continues to be outstanding. Great food and service, located in Lincoln Park.
Went there for the Sunday brunch ... loved it. You can find all typical French food from the onion soup to the croque madame. The fresh bread is complementary and delicious
It was fantastic! Brunch was delicious. The only adjustment I would have made would be to the music. I would have enjoyed French music.
I took my husband here for his 50th birthday. The staff was so pleasant and attentive. The food...EXCELLENT!
