@newdelhisf • This is my favorite Indian restaurant in all of San Francisco! • Had such a pleasure to meet @chefranjan , the legendary chef/owner and of @newdelhisf new dehli. He is not only the funniest, most humble and talented chef but he also speaks Cantonese. He actually started his first new dehli restaurant in Hong Kong and had 5 different locations then expanded to Thailand and then to San Francisco. • Not only was the restaurant decor grand and beautiful but their was food amazing! • Drinks: lychee martini (so so so good) new whiskey concoction like a peanut butter and jam (also very good) Zinfandel wine • Appetizer: assorted veggie platter Assorted tandoori platter • Entree: Lemon mustard prawns- so flavorful Kerelan pepper chicken Bengali kosha mangso- lamb curry Achari baigan- eggplant (my fav) Lucknowi pullao- basmati rice Nan-so fluffy

Dining at New Delhi Restaurant in San Francisco was an unforgettable experience! Chef Ranjan Dey personally introduced us to some incredible dishes and shared their rich histories. The Paneer Pepper was a flavorful revelation, while the Shrimp Goa transported us with its coastal spices. The Murky Bengali Martini was a delightful twist, and the Paneer Cheese Naan was the perfect accompaniment. Chef Ranjan’s recommendations opened us up to new culinary delights and taught us so much about Indian cuisine. Don’t miss the Chef’s Tasting Menu for two – it’s a journey you won’t forget! 📍 New Delhi | @newdelhisf [Hosted] 🏡 San Francisco, CA #indianfood #sfrestaurants #sffoodie #bayareaeats #yelpsanfrancisco #sanfranciscofood #restaurant #foodie #newdelhi #vegetarian #veganfood #indiancuisine #tastingmenu #diningexperience #authenticfood #authenticindianfood #paneer

Had a fantastic night visiting my daughter after starting college. Celebrated by going out to eat and the best part was the wonderful conversation with the owner , Ranjan. Great food and ambience.

As a Chef/Owner, I especially appreciate the opportunity to connect with guests, share stories, and make an evening memorable beyond the food itself. We are so pleased you enjoyed the cuisine and ambience, and we wish your daughter every success in this exciting new journey. The food was very good and my wife and I would go back for it. However, the extremely bright lighting was a complete turnoff. In addition, upon first entering the restaurant, there was a TV broadcasting who knows what and it volume was pretty loud. The TV "noise" and the lighting will prevent us from returning. If those two things were to change, we would consider going back.
New Delhi RestaurantResponded on September 24, 2026
Thank you for your feedback, and we are very pleased that you and your wife enjoyed the food. We would love to clarify that the television is in our front bar, which has its own atmosphere and is separate from our fine-dining experience. Our large dining room has several distinct sections offering different levels of privacy, quiet, and ambience. The dining room is intentionally designed with subdued lighting to create a calm, elegant atmosphere for dinner. We would genuinely love you to return. When making your reservation, let us know you prefer a quiet, private setting, and we can seat you in one of our upper or more secluded areas, away from the bar and television. We hope you'll give us another opportunity to create the experience you were looking for.

Our restaurant has been operating since 1988. We love taking care of our guests. On certain days, when it is really slow, instead of closing our doors at 11 PM which is our last order, we close at 10:30 PM. Just to let you know, it is extremely rare when this happens.

The most pathetic service I have ever experienced. 100% attitude and 0% empathy. One of the servers literally said, “We have been working since morning, that’s why we are slow and have attitude.” We were never informed that items were out of stock, and when we politely asked, all we received was rude behavior. To make it worse, the server responded with, “I’m not the owner, so how would I know the chai is out of stock?” Basic communication and respect towards customers should not be this difficult.
New Delhi RestaurantResponded on June 25, 2026
We are sorry your experience did not meet your expectations. The evening you visited was unusually busy due to a convention in town. Since we prepare food and beverages fresh throughout service, it is sometimes possible to run out of an item, especially near the end of a busy night. Our chai is made in batches, and we avoid making large quantities late at night that may go unused. This is rare for us. When we ran out, our team offered alternative beverages and dessert options. We always welcome feedback and want to make things right, but our team also deserves respect while serving a busy dining room. New Delhi Restaurant is San Francisco’s oldest Indian restaurant, and we have proudly served over two million guests. We are grateful for every patron and hope to welcome you again.
