Overall, it was very good
Went with another couple and we were both celebrating our wedding anniversaries. The food, service, wine, and live music were perfect. The fish special (button snapper) was fantastic! Our compliments to the chef!
Another great night at Nirvana!
Dinner was just fair - nothing to write home about.
Birthdays! Thor was a super fun waiter. He recognized our need for a long slow meal and surprised us when the musician sang happy birthday to us, using our names as he brought our desserts. Many diners joined in the singing, making this a truly special meal for these 2 lifelong friends. Thanks Nirvana. One of our nicest meals together in 30+ years!
This is becoming one of my favorite places. The food is always outstanding, the service is great, the wines are top notch and the wine specials on certain nights helps with the budget. The owner is always friendly and engaging and cares about us loving the dining experience. I love this place for much we booked a private event for 35 people in June already.
Usually love it here. Service was awful this time.
We have dined at Nirvana twice in the past month and both times were very pleased with the food and the service. Our first visit was on a very busy night and I believe they were short staffed but the waiter did an awesome job providing us his attention and focus even though he was managing many tables. He took the time to give us his recommendations and he was right on!! Both visits were very enjoyable and the food was excellent. WE will be back!!
First time at Nirvana and it was a very good experience. Very knowledgeable staff in helping select wine and food selections. A great variety and the food was outstanding!
If you enjoy a really really nice glass of wine or a flight of reds or flight of whites and want you opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere provided by an outstanding host an owner “Dan” this restaurant is for you.
The cheese selections are fantastic and in my humble opinion you’ll have a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant.
PS. the rack of lamb is always superb.
One of best restaurants on north shore. Great wine list! Food is off the charts!
Great live music on Friday. Very friendly service with great selection of wine and compliments. Will definitely go back.
Slow service and food less than average at that price point... seems like they are only really interested in selling wine.
Another fantastic night at Nirvana. Great food, great wine, great music, great service, and a great host! Can't ask for anything better. Thank you!!!
The music is great!! It helps to create the ambiance of the place.
Excellent service. We love this place. We didn’t realize that it was a wine tasting event so a bit noisier than we had hoped for but looked like fun. We were celebrating our anniversary. Food was great as always
It’s hard to beat the delicious cuisine, outstanding service, and very esoteric wine list at Nirvana. Located in a strip mall in Vernon Hills you’ll find Nirvana. Don’t let the location fool you...this place serves up unique creative dishes complimented by a wine list filled with delicious choices. The wait staff is top notch...friendly, very wine savvy offering excellent suggestions. It’s great for a casual meal out or special occasion....delightful!!
I have been to Nirvana several times for lunch and the service was always outstanding. This time, for dinner, we were standing at check in for many minutes. The host knew we were there. He took a couple to outdoor seating and took forever to come back in. Our server got the food out slowly, even though he told us several times that the food “is coming right out”. And it was so very loud in the restaurant - loud tables and loud music. My daughter manages a restaurant and she will not be returning. Neither will my husband. I, however, love lunch there so I will return, but never for dinner.
Love the food, wine and the service is outstanding
Fantastic service and an outstanding wine list and incredible food!
We love Nirvana! The staff is fantastic. They always have interesting wines. The food is delicious.
Great food, outstanding small production wines, exceptional friendliness and ambiance
The food and wine were excellent! Our server was great! One of us ordered the white wine flight and did not like one of the wines. The server was great and substituted a different wine which was wonderful! There was a guitarist playing while we ate and it made for a very enjoyable and relaxing meal. All for five of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal! We will definitely be back!
Had a great waiter who was very helpful.
Always love eating at Nirvana. The wine club tasting events with exceptional food pairings are truly outstanding. I am always impressed at the great lengths they go to accommodate my gluten-free requests. The GF flatbreads and pastas on their menu are my personal favorites. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant with exceptional staff that people might otherwise overlook since it is nestled amongst big box stores. Well worth seeking it out.
Friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the various wines. Fun evening with girlfriends.
Our waiter was excellent and very attentive. Food was great and wine was excellent.
Great food. Awesome Service. Fantastic wine list!
We had a Facebook memory of wine and a charcuterie board we had gotten. Was great the first time so wanted to experience the same thing. Unfortunately, was not nearly as good. Much less quantity. Blueberry cheese was night and day as far as quantity/ quality of cut. Big solid pieces first time, crumbles this time. Received maybe 8 grapes this time. And tiny bread loaf. We got charged extra for more bread. Very disappointing.
truly enjoyed a wonderful evening out with friends. the coffeehouse music performed live set the fun relaxing tone. our server was excellent, knowledgeable about the wines and the food pairings and was very attentive, given that this was a busy Sat. evening. Opted to dine indoors as the outside patio overlooks a parking lot, but the live music is piped outside, so those diners can enjoy the tunes as well. The food was excellent, just the right portions and light on the gut...had the salmon and it was prepared perfectly.
Sat outside. Good weather. Nice service. Live music inside was on the speakers outside. Food was very good
Great outdoor dining! Interesting menu, friendly service. Feels like a city neighborhood gem, but it's in the burbs!
This was one of the most horrible dining experience of my life and I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. We arrived at 20:30 and were told that the order will need to be taken immediately because the kitchen close at 9 pm (it was a Saturday and the restaurant was expected to stay opened until 11 pm in accordance with the open table app). We order a selection of appetizer, soups and main, they delivered EVERYTHING in less than 15 minutes, not course by course, everything. I asked for them to at least keep the mains heated. By the time we finished the cheese table the soups were cold and the server was asking us if he could bring back the mains. Was definitely not a relaxing experience, we are clearly rushed during the whole meal. I asked them to pack my main, so I can eat at home because was barely 21 and we were already pretty much being asked to leave the restaurant. Being rushed to eat appetizer, soup and main, and a bottle of wine (we order a bottle in anticipation for a relaxing Saturday) dinner in 40 minutes is not what I'm looking to have on a Saturday night dinner. Take your business elsewhere, this place don't deserve your business! You are likely to have a better and more relaxed and romantic dinner on a McDonnalds than here.
We enjoyed our dining experience. Great gluten free options and our waitress was very pleasant.
My wife and I tried Nirvana for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I don’t think we could have picked a nicer spot. We made a 6pm reservation thinking we could be a bit ahead of the Friday night rush and got a very nice niche table with a nice view of the restaurant & bar. After being seated our waiter Mike greeted us and a crazy evening of gastrointestinal delight was on. Mike couldn’t have been more helpful. Nirvana has an interesting menu with many options and Mike was patient and gracious walking us through it and the wine menu. There was some of the tastiest bruschetta and a crazy good Cheese board with jam, honey & fruits paired with perfect wines. The main dishes were excellent. Karen enjoyed a beautiful salmon dish with asparagus and a side of sweet mashed potatoes and mine was their evening special scallops & shrimp on top of a egg foo young style patty in a light soy sauce broth. The really nice thing was we weren’t in a rush or rushed by the house. A bonus was meeting and chatting with the owner Danny after dinner while sitting at the bar for a nightcap. While this was our first visit it certainly won’t be our last.
Nirvana was rated highly when looking for a local food option with a gluten-free menu. Being wine fans as well, it was the perfect mix Fornalsky anniversary date night with drinks, appetizer, and an exceptional meal.
Mike was our server and was a treat to deal with throughout the entire meal. He dazzled us with his knowledge of the menu, stories to keep us relaxed and engaged while waiting for our selections, and always available for questions needing to be answered.
As far as Gluten Free options, he did say there was NOT a dedicated area for preparation of GF foods. But they did try to manage the preparation of my dates meal to limit any gluten contamination. That went a long way with her as quality Gluten Free restaurant options can be hard to come by.
The cost was a little higher than I expected. For two of us, two glasses of wine each, crab cakes appetizer, an order of steak with grilled brussel sprouts and potatoes, and an order of shrimp & scallops with peppers and black quinoa. Topped off with chocolate cake that was to die for.
Definitely worth the $150 tab and I would go again, just a bit more than I had expected. Still, overall a value worth trying out. Enjoy!
Food fit for a foodie. Great combinations. Excellent coffee
Wine selection is great and the appetizers are really very good! Wait staff is always friendly.
It was fun as we set out on the patio cuz it was a beautiful day. It's a little odd in the fact that it's nestled into a shopping mall but it's kind of fun to people-watch! We took advantage of Half Price bottle of wine! That was fun
Went for mother's day brunch. .. Excellent. Perhaps pricey at first glance ($40), but gratuity is included so, really, not far above many others. And the food truly was a cut above. They may not have had the vast selection of many but, in my experience, most of such selection is overkill with many items I don't care for anyway. And, really, can anyone eat 250+ items in one sitting??
What selections Nirvana did have were the most desirable choices at most brunch tables, from shrimp cocktail (jumbo size), smoked salmon, assorted gourmet cheeses, and an exceptional 'everything' salad with a selection of four unique homemade truly delicious dressings to the expected brunch fare (but tasting made to order rather than steam table) such as Belgian waffle, eggs Benedict, not-your-standard-issue pan roasted potatoes and oven roasted brussel sprouts (both delicious) and truly exceptional prime rib and bone-in Ham, and made to order omelettes.
And the desserts were to die for--TRUE desserts, not those miniature thawed from the box aberrations that so many places, even higher end, feature today. Choices included a heavenly carrot cake, among the best I've ever had, and an out of this world chocolate cake, perhaps flourless, as it was so decadently rich, a deep dark, delectable slice of 'nirvana'! 😊
They also included Mimosas for Moms (the first I've had at a brunch where you could tell it included champagne!). And carafes of freshly squeezed OJ were available for those not wishing the latter.
Last, and certainly not least, the service was exceptional...i.e. They'll bring an item to you tableside if a pan has temporarily run out, so you don't have to stand and wait or go back to the end of line when you see it's been replenished. In fact, in this intimate, smaller setting, we did not have to elbow our way through the typical crowds, nor wait in long lines at all, which, along with everything else noted, made the aforementioned price well justified. I would return next year!
