The restaurant is closed until further notice. Unfortunately reservations are still possible throgh open table. No answering machine in the restaurant and/or hotel informing their guests. Only info about the closure is through social media. A local tourguide waiting in front of the restaurant for her clients informed us and other guests with reservation about the closure. Very sad for the owner and staff as this restaurant was one of the best in Saint Augustine for the last decade. We loved it and we hope that it will reopen in the future. We miss it. All the best wishes

We are locals and have been trying to make plans for this restaurant for awhile and so glad we finally got to experience it! We sat outside on a beautiful evening and had just about one of everything on the menu. Our favorites were the escargot and the halibut dinner special. Of and the crème brûlée! Our service was so sweet (even with our 4 young kids) and very attentive!!

We had an outstanding experience here. I brought my lovely wife here for her birthday and they went above and beyond to make her feel special. At the end of the meal they offered several complimentary deserts to choose from. She decided to have the chocolate cake with a birthday candle placed on top. Very nice touch. The service was fantastic. We ate outside in the patio area which is mostly covered by trees so it was very pleasant temperature wise and a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious, she had the salmon dish which she really enjoyed, it was cooked exactly how she likes it. I had the pork shank and it was fantastic, not too dry but also not real fatty. It was just right. Portion sizes were generous, prices are what you’d expect of a quality restaurant like this, a little on the high side but isn’t everything these days? We will definitely dine here again.

FAQs

Yes, Old City House is a popular choice for a romantic date night. Guests repeatedly praise its intimate, old‑world ambience, candlelit dining room and a quiet, tree‑filled courtyard patio that’s ideal for couples. The menu focuses on thoughtful contemporary American entrees (seafood, lamb, steak) with a strong wine and cocktail selection, and staff often add birthday/anniversary touches. For the coziest experience, request patio seating or an early reservation on a weekday.

Portions are generally generous. Many guests describe entrees as hearty and satisfying (filet, rack of lamb, osso bucco and seafood specials are often called ample), and several people said dishes were large enough to share or leave little room for dessert. A few guests felt some entrees were pricey for the portion, so expect restaurant‑quality plating and substantial servings rather than small tasting portions.

Partly, families do dine here and guests often bring children, including infants, but the space is intimate and tables can be close together. The patio and some larger tables can accommodate families, though stroller access and tight indoor seating have been mentioned. If you need a high chair, stroller space, or a quieter table, call ahead and request seating accommodations to ensure a comfortable experience.

Early weeknights or earlier dinner seatings are the best bet for a quieter visit. Guests report that Tue–Thu evenings and off‑season weekdays tend to be calmer, while Friday/Saturday nights, holidays and special events (Night of Lights) are busy and louder. If you prefer the peaceful courtyard, request outdoor seating and aim for an early reservation to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Old City House offers a few distinct seating options: an intimate indoor dining room (white‑tablecloth, old‑world charm), a cozy small bar/lounge with couches, and a pleasant outdoor courtyard/patio for al fresco dining. The space is relatively small, so parties and specific table requests are best arranged when you make a reservation, outdoor seating is popular in good weather.

Warm, old‑world and cozy, perfect for special occasions. Guests frequently describe a historic, intimate dining room with a romantic courtyard, attentive service and elegant presentation. That said, the restaurant is small and can feel lively or a bit loud when full (tables are close together), so expect an intimate setting that can become bustling on peak nights.

Casual dress is the stated policy, but many guests dress up for special occasions. The restaurant strikes a casually elegant tone, smart casual attire is appropriate for date nights, celebrations, or a nicer evening out in historic St. Augustine.

Yes, the staff is experienced with special requests. Guests report successful requests for birthday/anniversary desserts, dietary accommodations and seating preferences, and the restaurant allows a limited corkage fee. Because the space is small, call ahead to request patio seating, accessibility needs, celebrations or menu accommodations so the team can prepare.

Families do dine here, and guests commonly bring children, but Old City House is best for older children or family occasions rather than casual kid outings. The focus is on refined entrees (seafood, lamb, steak) and the setting is intimate; there’s no specific kids’ menu mentioned, so consider an early seating and call ahead if you need a high chair or a spot with more room.

The restaurant accepts reservations and can be busy, during peak times some guests experienced waits even with reservations. There’s no explicit description of a formal waitlist, so the best approach is to reserve in advance and call if your timing is tight. If the restaurant is full, staff will typically seat you as soon as a table opens or offer a short wait.

Busiest: Friday and Saturday nights, holidays and special events (Night of Lights) when the small dining room fills and noise rises. Quietest: weekday evenings (especially Tue–Thu) and off‑season visits, plus earlier dinner seatings when the patio and dining room are calmer. For a peaceful meal, aim for midweek or an early reservation.

Midweek evenings (Tuesday through Thursday) are often the best days for a quieter, more relaxed experience. Guests praise weekday dinners for being peaceful, while Fridays, Saturdays and holiday evenings tend to be busier and louder. If you want the courtyard vibe, choose a pleasant‑weather weekday or an early weekend seating.

Sometimes, Old City House has operated on holidays (guests describe dining there on Thanksgiving, Mother’s Day and other special dates), but holiday hours and service levels can vary. Several guests noted heavy crowds and longer waits on holiday service, so call ahead and reserve early if you plan a holiday visit.

Yes, the outdoor courtyard/patio is dog‑friendly according to guest reports. Many guests enjoyed al fresco dining with their dogs on the patio. If you’re bringing a pet, call ahead to confirm availability and reserve patio seating, as space is limited and popular in good weather.

Yes, Old City House features a pleasant outdoor courtyard/patio that many guests enjoy for dinner. The patio is frequently praised for its tree‑covered, relaxed atmosphere and is a popular choice in good weather. Because outdoor seating is limited and in high demand, request patio seating when you make your reservation.
