About this restaurant

In Edinburgh’s New Town, 1780 restaurant serves traditional Scottish and British dishes. Its location at 167 Rose Street is only a short walk away from Waverley station. Other major attractions of the city like the Scottish National Gallery and Princes Street Gardens are also found within a 10 minute walk of the restaurant. 1780’s snug interior is decorated in a traditional neighbourhood pub style with dark wooden furniture and pictures embellishing the venue. For light meals or snacks, 1780 has artisan bread based platters, salsa topped nachos soups, salads and risotto on offer. Juicy burgers, steaks and other grilled items occupy the focal point of the menu. A pre-set two or three course meal offers a sample of the restaurant’s many specialties. While appetising desserts bring a sweet conclusion to a meal, a dram of whisky or beer helps to wash down the food.

Very atmospheric Rose Street pub, pleasant and helpful staff (even when extremely busy), top notch haggis and an excellent and very extensive range of bottled beers.......a reliable 'standby' on trips to edinburgh

We were the only people dining at the start of our meal which was nice for us as we could enjoy a chat but if you are looking for a bustling atmosphere then this place perhaps isnt for you. During the meal the restaurant did fill up but all other diners were tourists who had been wandering Rose Street. Typical pub food, nice & good choice for size of place. Also great value for money that the steak dish is included in the 2-4-1 mains

1780 restaurant Edinburgh. nice meal and very pleasant staff, downside was a large table of women who made it impossible even to talk. This was a shame as the pub was trying hard.

Good value on 2 for 1 deal and we all had an enjoyable evening. Vegetarian wellington and raspberry cheesecake were lovely.

1780, Edinburgh. Booked a table for 12pm. Had to wait outside in the cold until 12.10pm for the restaurant to open! We weren't sure if it was even going to open at all. When we were eventually seated at our table the serving staff were friendly, however our food was only look warm. We also thought serving lettuce and tomato with steak pie was a strange combination too. The food was good quality and portion size great but if it was warmer we would have been much happier!

I can't speak highly enough of 1780, will definitely be coming back. Food is really good value (especially as we had buy one get one free on main meals). What makes this place even better is the service. The waitress we had was just great. My colleague had the rabbit special of the day and said it was really good. We both said we have paid a lot more for far less quality over the years. I rather liked the french bar/bistro theme they have going on in there. Wine was good and priced well.

Lovely place with good rustic food and friendly staff. Service let down by waitress who was reluctant to give us coffee since the machine had been cleaned.
