Located in one of downtown Libertyville’s historic buildings, 545 North’s atmosphere blends the old with the new. A sleek slate wall greets you as you first enter the restaurant, giving the space an urban feel, while exposed brick walls and hardwood floors represent the history of the space. Our copper-topped bar is a focal point as well as a prime spot for viewing the latest sporting events or mingling with friends old and new.
Dinner: Sunday - Thursday: 4.00pm - 9.30pm; Friday & Saturday: 4.00pm - 10.00pm
Worst dinner ever. Waitress lacked attention to detail. Didn’t know what was in the special. Appetizer was missing items. Hair in entree. Hooray it was summer! Will never go again.
The Ahi Tuna salad was disappointing. Salad was fresh and tasty but Ahi was sparse, overdone and tasteless.
Doors were locked at 11:30 although it said lunch started at 11
Server was not focused
Overall disappointing - not like previous experience
We had a new waitress. Service was extremely slow. Waited almost 30 minutes just for water. Wrong wine was served and waited a long time for correct wine. One salad came without chicken. Not sure if waitresses fault or bartender/kitchen. We’ve been to 545 many times before and never had this happen. We always enjoy our experience.
On point service, attentive and accommodating but never intrusive. Phenomenal selection at reasonable price points. Live music was the perfect touch!
Disappointed! We made reservations for outside and we were told to wait 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we asked to just be seated. We were but our server took another 10 minutes to get our order. The owner (manager) ended up coming over and giving us our appetizer and then dinner. No apologies at all; so disappointed with the service.
We had a 7:00 reservation for outside, we were sat at 7:40. While we waited, we had drinks at the bar. Our drinks were good and the bartender was friendly. The service was slow on the patio. The food was tasty. We had to ask for water and refills. The plates should have been cleared sooner than they were. We sat outside and it was an enjoyable atmosphere. We enjoyed listening to the guitar player.
We watched the World Cup match in the beer garden with our dog and had wonderful service!!! They even brought our pup a whole bowl of treats and constant water and ice refills. 5 stars!!!
No dinner specials
545 has a gorgeous patio. Wonderful breeze when the sun goes down . The food and drinks were great too.
This was my first time there even though it has been open for years. The menu was nice but nothing on there I had not seen everywhere else. All of our food was well prepared and well presented. The bartender was our waitress and she took good care of us.
It was a afternoon theater day in downtown Chicago. After getting off the train at rush hour it was a wonderful stop for delicious food and wine. The people serving us were very efficient and pleasant, they paced the food perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice evening. Great service. The lettuce wrap special was a little too spicy. Sriracha sauce too hot. And I like spicy!
545 North is definitely a treasure. I loved the menu with its comfort food choices and innovative small bites. We shared the seared scallops in the citrus sauce and the mini pork tostadas as appetizers. My friend had a fabulous Rueben sandwich. I kept snitching her french fries. I had the steak salad with portobello mushrooms, arugula, and a horseradish dressing, which I adored. Downtown Libertyville has wonderful boutique shopping which I enjoyed before dining. We had excellent service and the court yard is charming.
Great outdoor patio for eating/socializing. Knowledgeable staff, especially the wine expert.
This was our 3rd time at 545. We were really looking forward to our return. The server took over 30 minutes for our beverages. It was Memorial Day Sunday at 4:30...the place was empty - don't know what was going on! Another table outside went in to talk to the management, they never came out to check on us. The server came and told us she was leaving, a family emergency. Regardless if that was the reason or not, the manager/owner still didn't come outside to talk to us. It wasn't until another table went in to talk to him. Then when he came outside, we had to flag him down....sure he didn't charge us for our drinks, but he should have come outside on his own! The food was fair. Will I go back? Don't think so. You lost a customer with your lack of caring.
Great place among many choices in Libertyville. Consistently delicious food items, and brews. Bonus is the outdoor seating which we’ve enjoyed on warm evenings like this last one and crisp fall evenings also.
Good food, good service, although the food was slow in coming out (server explained that they were training a new chef). My criticism is of the servers’ attire. This is a restaurant that caters to an older crowd. Very few people were under 40. The servers were wearing short shorts and cut up jeans—just didn’t seem right for the type of restaurant and clientele.
Great outdoor dining.
Great Mother’s Day Dinner!
This was THE worst brunch ever. From the start, the staff was not ready after 9:30. Food stations were not ready and hostess was emptying Mariano’s cookies and donuts on to their dessert table. After we were seated, we were immediately moved to a booth with the 5th seat sticking out in the aisle. Our server didn’t take our drink order until another 5 minutes passed as she was filling coffee carafes. Then she proceeded to get 2 wrong drinks (out of 5). We then waited another 10 minutes to be told we could serve ourselves. The food was mediocre at best and the eggs Benedict ran out before we got to it. All the food was on top of the bar which couldn’t be reached by kids - age 11 and 9. The prime rib was about 75% fat. The ham appeared to be from honeybaked ham store, but was good. As mentioned, the Mariano’s desserts were subpar.
We couldn’t get out of this place faster.
Fun birthday dinner
The food was overall tasty. Everything is ala carte. We waited about 30 minutes for dessert but was well worth it—the apple tart.
Very inattentive service. We were forgotten about twice.
It was a great place!
We recently dines at 545 and had a wonderful experience. Handcrafted cocktails were spot on! Dinner selection wasn’t huge but the menu had something for everyone. Most importantly the meals were delicious. I had the Wolf fish, which was on special - spectacular! Service was exceptional. The server was very attentive, popped in when we needed something. We had a minor issue with a glass of wine that tasted off and the server immediately corrected. Definitely going back again.
We all enjoyed our entrees , incredibly attentive and friendly waitress . An enjoyable evening overall
Good food at 545. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. 3 of us enjoyed various entrees, including; Salmon, Salad and Flank steak Sandwich. All were very tasty and worth the price. Restaurant was a bit cold where we sat in our booth. When the heat was on, it was fine; but it kept kicking on/off. Overall, good meal and great service.
Great greeting from staff on arrival.
Excellent service from Shanna.
Outstanding steak and twice baked potato.
Perfect cold beer and premium Scotch.
Everything about my experience was positive since I walked in the front door. The hostess was nice and attentive. We were sat immediately in the bar area. The food and drinks were outstanding. The 545 Old Fashion was a perfect way to start my dinner. My wife loved the selection of wines that were offered. We had the Short Rib and a Ribeye. It’s going to be hard for me to try something new after such amazing dishes! Excited to come back - see you soon 545!
Great service. Very good food. Will return soon.
If you are looking for place that serves reasonably priced "meat", then 545 is the place. They have a good selection of steaks, nothing crazy like Wagu, but good quality at fair prices. If you are looking for chicken or fish, you are at the wrong place. They typically have 2 choices for each. They offer a great choices of sides to accompany any meal.
They have a nice selection of appetizers and a well stocked bar.
545 is always very energetic (noisy!), so if you are hard of hearing and want to listen to what your dinner mates are saying, good luck! That being said, the booths in back do offer some buffer to the loud bar crowd in front. The outdoor space is excellent with a fireplace, heaters , nice subtle lighting, and a somewhat secluded setting behind the restaurant.
Ordered the cobb salad, and it was probably the worst salad I've ever had. Consisted of all the worst pieces of lettuce I would normally discard and none of what you would expect in a cobb salad. Good thing it had chicken on it, as that was the only part that was edible.
Unfortunately this restaurant was recommended by some friends that we went with. They also thought the service and the food was bad on Saturday night. Service was slow food came out cold and bad. The hostess was kind enough to tell us that it was restaurant week and the kitchen was backed up. That’s why it took so long for us to even get salad at our table. The soup came out cold. I hadA chicken capris he sandwich that had one piece of basil ,chicken breast the size of my thumb and melted mozzarella on top with French bread. It was an awful sandwich. My husband had a skirt steak sandwich or a hanger steak sandwich that the size of the meat also he said was about the size of his thumb. The carrot cake for dessert was gross. It wasn’t carrot cake as you would expect cake to be with cream cheese frosting in between the layers and on the side and top. It was awful. Our waiter never asked how we were doing he was pretty much absent from our table.I feel bad for our friends we were with that recommended this place because they also had an unsatisfactory experience she ordered short ribs and the waiter said they just sold their last one and that maybe because it took the waiter so long to get to our table to get the order. I do not like leaving bad reviews but I feel it is warranted. I tried calling the restaurant and there was no manager on today and the owners don’t come back until Wednesday so there was nobody to speak with about this
Very cozy place and our waitress knew some sign language as I am deaf which made ordering food easier
This was my first visit to the restaurant. We were seated in the bar area at a table for 2. The bar area was loud but not obnoxious. We had a pre-dinner cocktail and then ordered the filet skewer appetizer which was delicious. I had the surf and turf special which was very tasty. My wife had the rigatoni. They even made some adjustments to her order based on a special request. There were a few fine wine specials available by the glass. I ordered the cabernet on special that night. Very good! We completed our meal with a shot of limoncello liquor and the crème Brule for dessert. Overall the atmosphere was very social and the food was really good. We will definitely try this restaurant again.
Great food and service but ended up in the booth directly between the men’s and ladies bathroom. A bit awkward!
My wife and I went to celebrate Valentine's day on the Saturday afterwards. My wife had been before, I had not. We were seated in a booth (our request). It took 10 minutes for the waitress to come introduce herself. However, she did not rush us the rest of the night, so maybe that was by design? My wife and I shared the spinach-artichoke dip. It was fine. The pita chips with it were so good.
For dinner, my wife got the rigatoni and I got the cobb salad with a side of brussel sprouts. Her pasta was filled with water. It was fine, but not great. My cobb salad was bland, with two hunks of chicken thrown on it. What a dissappointment. The brussel sprouts with bacon were tasty, but the sprouts were cooked, but very al dente (not my preference). Overall the dinner was disappointing. We did get waffle banana split which was a real nice dessert. Overall, with all the good choices in Libertyville, I would not go back.
Everything was great food was awesome.
Usually 545 is great but tonight they seemed to really really struggle. The service took forever and they didn’t seem swamped but maybe they were down on servers. We ordered a small plate as an appetizer but it came with the main course. Overall, the food was tasteless. My husband and I ordered short ribs and they tasted flavorless. My son had soup and it was bland. The best thing was my daughters grilled cheese. We then waited over 20 min to get the ‘special’ dessert and they ran out of components of it and just brought us ice cream on top of a brownie versus coming out to let us know and maybe chose something different. The special dessert had a shot of Makers Mark that was supposed to be lit on fire and drizzled on top of chocolate cap with the intention of melting it...but the chocolate cap was missing, so it was just a shot of makers mark all over our ice cream which tasted awful. Our server tried hard and was a nice guy but overall it was a huge miss for us at 545.
Scallops appetizer was especially disappointing. Described as bacon wrapped scallops, these three bay scallops were so small that they were seated on a piece of bacon 3/4 inches - not wrapped. Poor value for the money.
