Unbelievable rip off. How you can honestly get away with pre made bad cold sandwiches. Zero service. Bug in our sandwiches they just took the plate and didn’t replace it. Food was god awful bad. Thoroughly recommend against going here for high tea. Unless you just don’t like money.

The presentation and room were very nice. The sandwiches were very dry. The dessert was beautiful in presentation unfortunately not in taste, and desserts are my favorite part of afternoon tea. Our waitress never came back to see if we needed anything, fortunately someone who was not our server did come ask us near the end if everything was good and could he get us more tea.

All round disappointing, service, food (poor sandwiches and cakes!….) and therefore not great value for money. Presentation good but taste and enjoyment awful. Style over substance unfortunately. Much better afternoon teas everywhere.

Last minute decision. Relative to other available options, this was very economical. Tea and food were delicious. Without others in the restaurant for the majority of the time we were there, service not as attentive as I expected, but very delightful when engaging with us. I'd return here if in London again.

I didn't get a greeting when I opened the door, so I didn't know where to go. The environment was nice and the greenery outside the window was beautiful, but the seat was uncomfortable, facing oppsit side of the window (even though I was alone). The menu was written, it was a traditional afternoon tea, but when I opened the teapot , there were no tea leaves, only pre-brewed black tea, so I couldn't enjoy the traditional afternoon tea of adding hot water. The sandwiches were dry. The scones were small and only tasted ordinary. It was a shame that I couldn't enjoy it at all and ended my last day in England, but it might have been a good thing if I thought that I had one less option the next time I come to England. It's in an easily accessible location, so it might not be bad if you just want to talk quietly, but it's not a reasonable price to add a service charge to the price of this afternoon tea (since I didn't receive pleasant service).

FAQs

Yes, it can be a charming choice for a relaxed afternoon-date. The Hyde offers an inviting room, garden views and a curated selection of rare teas that make for a memorable tea-time experience. Guests frequently praise friendly staff and the atmosphere, though a number of guests reported inconsistent food quality (dry sandwiches, small scones) and occasional reservation hiccups. I’d recommend booking in advance, mentioning any special requests, and aiming for a quieter weekday slot for the best, more attentive service.

Midweek afternoons are likely the best time to visit for a calmer, more attentive experience. Guests noted that service felt most relaxed and enjoyable when the dining room wasn’t full, whereas busy periods sometimes bring reservation issues and less-attentive service. If you want a quieter visit, aim for weekday slots or early afternoon bookings and call ahead to confirm your reservation.

The atmosphere is generally described as inviting and pleasant, with greenery visible from the windows and attractive presentation that suits a classic afternoon tea. Many guests enjoyed the setting and the curated tea selection, though experiences vary: some found service or food below expectations. Overall it’s a relaxed, casual-dining tea spot with a polished presentation and garden views.

Casual dress is the stated dress code, so smart-casual attire is appropriate for afternoon tea here. The environment is relaxed but nicely presented, comfortable, neat clothing fits the setting well.

Yes, you should call ahead to make special requests. Guests report staff handled dietary concerns well and went above and beyond for specific needs, so the team appears willing to accommodate allergies or special teas. For reservations or seating preferences (including private-party arrangements), contact the restaurant directly to confirm details.

Weekdays are generally the best choice, Tuesday to Thursday afternoons offer a better chance of a quieter, more attentive experience. Weekend afternoons may be busier and have more reservation demand. If you have flexibility, choose a midweek slot and call ahead to confirm your booking.

Yes, the restaurant allows private-party bookings. If you’re planning a private afternoon-tea event or celebration, contact the venue to discuss capacity, menu options and any complimentary offers they may provide for group bookings.

The restaurant advertises afternoon tea service daily from 12:00–17:30, which suggests it operates every day of the week. For public holidays or special dates it’s best to call ahead and confirm availability and any altered hours.
