Our new go to place for Italian food. The former Quails Inn in San Marcos has been transformed into a modern but welcoming Italian restaurant. From the minute we walked in, service and the lovely lakefront seating on the patio were top notch. We never felt rushed by our server as we enjoyed the view and ourdrinks. And the food? We had a wood fired Margerita pizza with a gf crust. Best gf pizza I've ever had! Even husband couldn't believe it was gf. His salmon with pistachio topping was a generous plate of food and complete meal with roasted veggies and a small green salad. My gf rigatoni amatriciana was just the right balance of pasta and sauce. Again, hard to believe the pasta was gf. The chocolate mousse we shared was mislabeled, but in a good way. Underneath the velvety mousse was a layer of moist, spongy flourless chocolate cake. Can't wait to go back and sample more of the menu.

It didn’t take long to get our food and drinks but it took quite sometime to even get an order in, seemed like our waitress would pop in but then disappear for some time. There wasn’t much of a variety of options when it came to adding protein. The plates and presentation wasn’t anything that made you excited about the dish. For example, the focaccia bread was just a garlic pizza. We asked for boxes and the server just plopped all the boxes down and walked away. It got pretty loud where we couldn’t even converse with our own party. Overall, the views were great, but I would rather eat elsewhere. Wasn’t horrible, but for the prices, I just assumed the service would match.

We really like the Amalfi Cucina. Although the inside areas are way too noisy - loud music and talking, the outside areas are perfect. Usually the food is good. We love the focaccia appetizer. The lasagna this time was totally mushy - overcooked in the microwave!

My first time visiting Amalfi Cucina Italiana with my family was such a great experience! We love trying different Italian pasta spots, and this place did not disappoint. The location and presentation are beautifully crafted, creating such a warm and elegant atmosphere. We ordered the Cacio e Pepe pasta, which I absolutely loved for its creamy and rich flavor. My husband enjoyed the Ragù Napoletano pasta, and it was just as delicious and full of flavor. I also tried their espresso martini, which I’d rate an 8/10 creamy, smooth, and very tasteful. To finish, we had the sweet cannolis, which were the perfect ending to our meal and wrapped up the experience beautifully. The customer service was excellent, and everyone was welcoming and attentive. We would definitely love to visit again!

Dining at Amalfi is always a treat. Love their pastas (the Bolognese is especially good) and the Roman artichokes are a favorite. Our server, Andrae was excellent, as were the other staff. The view over Lake San Marcos really makes it extra special, and portions are generous. Nice win list and excellent cocktails. The noise level can get quite high on busy nights (almost always), so be warned and try to sit near a window or in a booth if you have hearing issues.

FAQs

Direct answer: The restaurant serves lunch and dinner on a regular weekly schedule. Lunch is served Tue–Sun 11:30 am–3:00 pm. Dinner hours are Mon–Thu 4:30 pm–9:30 pm, Fri 4:30 pm–10:00 pm. Saturday hours are 11:30 am–10:00 pm and Sunday 11:30 am–9:30 pm. For holiday hours or special events (New Year’s specials were mentioned by guests), call ahead to confirm.

Yes, Amalfi Cucina Italiana is a popular choice for date night. Guests frequently praise the scenic lakefront patio and romantic views of Lake San Marcos, plus a cozy, casual‑elegant dining room. Expect wood‑fired pizzas, housemade pastas and standout desserts (tiramisu is often mentioned). For a quieter, more intimate experience request a patio/window seat or an early weekday dinner; evenings and weekends can be lively and loud. Reservations are recommended for special occasions.

Portions are generally satisfying but somewhat mixed depending on the dish. Many guests report generous portions for pizzas and classic pastas, and the homemade pasta is described as hearty. A few guests said some entrees (like lasagna or steak) felt small for the price on isolated visits. If you're sharing appetizers and a pizza or ordering multiple courses, most parties find the quantities ample. Ask your server about portion size if you're undecided.

The best time depends on your priorities. For a quieter, relaxed meal choose weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner, guests report lunch midweek is calm and pleasant. If you want the lively atmosphere, evenings and weekend nights are energetic with live music downstairs at times and a bustling dining room. For a romantic, quieter experience request patio/window seating; reservations are recommended on busy nights.

Amalfi mixes casual‑elegant lakeside charm with a lively, energetic vibe. Guests love the scenic lake views, stylish interior and romantic patio; many describe it as perfect for celebrations and date nights. Be aware the indoor dining room can get quite loud, echoing ceilings and parties or music downstairs sometimes make conversation difficult. If you prefer a quieter meal, request a patio table or an early weekday seating.

Families are welcome and the restaurant is family‑friendly in practice. Guests often bring kids and celebrate birthdays and family events; staff have accommodated parties with children and plant‑based or simplified pasta requests. The patio and quieter booths are popular with families. Specific accessibility features (wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms) aren’t routinely mentioned in guest feedback, so call ahead if you need guaranteed accessible seating or special accommodations.

You’ll find indoor dining, a lakeside patio/deck and a downstairs bar area. Guests describe a roomy main dining room (can feel lively and echoey), a quieter second dining area or booths, and an outdoor patio overlooking Lake San Marcos that many prefer for a calmer experience. There’s also a downstairs Marina bar with live music on some nights. The restaurant can seat large groups, though private rooms are not advertised.

Business casual is the recommended dress code. Guests typically wear smart‑casual attire for date nights, family celebrations and special occasions. While many diners are comfortably dressed, business casual aligns with the restaurant’s casual‑elegant atmosphere for evenings and weekend dining.

Yes, call ahead to request seating preferences, special‑occasion arrangements, or to ask about dietary needs. Guests commonly request patio/window tables or to be seated with a favorite server (several guests ask specifically for servers like Michael/Michelangelo). The kitchen is often accommodating for dietary substitutions, though some special requests (e.g., off‑menu dishes on holidays) may be limited, it’s best to confirm by phone when you book.

Not explicitly advertised, but yes, the restaurant gets busy and reservations are strongly recommended. Guests frequently say the restaurant fills up on weekend nights and holidays; walk‑ins risk long waits or being turned away. If you arrive early or late, call ahead, staff sometimes manage waitlists for seating, but to guarantee a table (especially for groups or patio seating) make a reservation in advance.

Busiest: weekend evenings, holidays and nights with live music or large private parties, guests often describe loud, energetic dining rooms then. Quietest: weekday lunches and early weekday dinners are the calmest times, and the outdoor patio generally feels quieter than the main dining room. If you want a low‑noise experience, book a midweek lunch or request patio seating.

For a quieter, relaxed visit choose a weekday (Tuesday–Thursday) around lunch or an early dinner. Guests repeatedly note weekday lunch as a peaceful time with prompt service and lovely lake views. If you prefer lively energy, weekends and Friday/Saturday nights offer a bustling atmosphere, live music downstairs and full service, but expect noise and a need for reservations.

Yes, the restaurant often opens for major holidays and sometimes offers special set menus. Guests describe dining there for Christmas and New Year’s Eve (with a special menu), and other holiday celebrations. Because holiday hours and menus vary, call ahead and confirm availability and any special pricing or set menus before booking.

Yes, families with children commonly dine here and the restaurant welcomes celebratory family meals. Guests report kids and teens dining comfortably, and staff have accommodated children’s needs in many instances. There isn’t a widely noted kids’ menu, so for younger children consider earlier seating or the patio and call ahead to ask about menu flexibility. For holiday set menus (e.g., NYE) options for kids may be limited.

Yes, Amalfi has an outdoor patio/deck overlooking Lake San Marcos. Many guests praise the lakeside patio for a quieter, romantic experience especially at sunset; others enjoy dining outdoors for better ability to converse and to avoid the loud indoor room. Note: outdoor seating can be subject to weather, heat lamps, and occasional insects (mosquitoes), so plan accordingly and ask about patio availability when you reserve.
