Just a short walk from Aldgate East station, Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane, Amber is a favourite for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.     Was quite disappointed with my experience at Amber. All seemed ok on arrival, was greeted politely and the restaurant has a nice aesthetic / vibe, but it went downhill from there. We waited 40mins for someone to take our order and that was after I had to get up and flag someone down - no idea how long it would have taken for them to notice we were forgotten about (tables around us were being served fine). Also had no acknowledgement that we had been waiting that long which felt weird. On to the food. We got a few starters and small plates - the Carrots, Oysters Mushroom, Hummus, Pita and Lentil Kofte. The Hummus was amazing (!) with the rest being ok. For mains we got the Sea Bass and Lamb Shoulder, with Hisbi Cabbage and Smoked Potatoes as sides. The Sea Bass smelt nice but something on the plate left quite a strange after taste, as if something was spoiled. A similar experience with the Cabbage, something definitely tasted off and so we didn't eat anymore after the first bite. My friend really didn't enjoy the Lamb Shoulder either and ended up sending it back (I've eaten out with her a lot over the years and have never seen her send food back). I will say the lady who spoke to us about it was very accommodating, replacing the Lamb Shoulder with the Steak (which was still not that enjoyable, but at least edible compared to the Lamb). They also took the Cabbage and Lamb off of our receipt which we appreciated. I was really looking forward to trying this place but unfortunately it just wasn't a nice experience overall. I would not go back or recommended, but based on other reviews people seem to really like it so maybe we were just unfortunate.

    I had high expectations which were not met. Food is average at best. There were three of us and we ordered zucchini fritters. The plate got delivered with one small ball on it! When we asked if this was the serving, the waitress apologised and said the chef was new!! No 1 why didn't the waitress see this before bringing to the table and obviously put another two fritters on and 2 how was the chef daft enough to put one tiny ball on a plate when it's a sharing menu. The food was very average and considering the amount of competition in the area they need to do better

    Thank you for your feedback. After reading it, I spoke with the manager who looked after your table and checked your order. Our zucchini fritters are priced individually and one was ordered, so one was served. When you raised it, our manager brought two more to your table and removed the charge as a gesture. We could have made the portion clearer when taking your order, and our team will now confirm quantities for sharing dishes at that point. I couldn't establish who mentioned a new chef. In this case the kitchen prepared exactly what was ordered, so I'd ask that our chef isn't described as "daft". I'm sorry the food didn't meet your expectations. We'll take your feedback on board, and if you give us another chance in the future, I hope your next visit changes your mind. Murat, Owner

    We had a lovely meal. We both started with a lovely sea bass dish - we had not realised that this was uncooked but it was delicatly flavoured and we both liked it. We thought it would be helpful if the menu cold indicate cold and also uncooked dishes. Then we both had charred hispi cabbage and my friend had chicken legs while I had lamb skewers. All were very tasty. My cabbage was almost cold and I asked for it to be reheated. This was speedlily dealt with and they prepared a fresh one for me. We ordered a Mango Baklava to share. It was tasty but not at all what wew were expected for a baclava. There was a nice selection of drinks and I was pleased to be able to order a small glass of wine. A nice restauarnt, convenient for Wilton's music Hall. Recommended.

    A really great place to dine for a date or a business dinner, it’s lively enough not to feel like you’re sitting in awkward silence, but not overly loud that you can’t have conversation and hear what’s being said. The staff are fantastic, friendly and polite. The food was lovely. I recommend Amber to everyone.
