About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Good for groups
  • Charming
Arthur's is the nearest pub on the route to The Guinness Storehouse, one of the city's foremost tourist attractions. It is popular both with locals and tourists. Naturally it has the freshest pint of Guinness in all of Ireland.

Arthurs is a classic Dublin pub, old style but well appointed. It has been a pub for over 200 years, and has many historical connections, being beside St. Catherines Church, outside of which the patriot, Robert Emmet, was hung, drawn and quartered in 1803.

We light a real turf fire everyday, play an eclectic mix of Irish music and have live music sessions in the evenings.

Upstairs at Arthur’s, we have a room that operates as a restaurant in the day, but at night becomes Arthur’s Blues and Jazz Club, where we host top national and international blues and jazz acts 5 nights a week. On stage we have a concert grand piano, and we also have an excellent lighting rig, and a top professional PA and sound system.

Pub carino con personale gentile e cortese. Abbiamo mangiato bene, unica nota negativa il pane con burro salato che era una fetta di pane da toast fredda con del burro nell'angolo.

FAQs

Yes, Arthur’s is a cosy, atmospheric spot that often makes a lovely date-night choice. Guests frequently praise the warm, authentic pub vibe, turf fire, attentive staff and live jazz/blues upstairs, which create a memorable evening. The restaurant side serves hearty Irish mains (seafood chowder, shepherd’s pie) and cocktails, and its location near Vicar Street and the Guinness Storehouse makes it easy to pair with a show or tour. Book ahead on busy nights.

Portions are generally generous for a traditional Irish pub, many guests describe mains like fish & chips, stews and burgers as hearty and satisfying. Several reviews call portions “generous” or “proper main course size, ” though a few guests felt some dishes were smaller than expected. If you’re unsure, ask staff about serving size when ordering or consider sharing starters like pork belly bites or beef cheek croquettes.

Arthur’s is family-friendly, many guests bring family, celebrate birthdays and dine with teens. The downstairs pub seating is relaxed, while the upstairs restaurant has rustic booths and bench seating that some guests found less comfortable. Accessibility specifics (ramps, lift) aren’t provided, and there are stairs to the upstairs dining/music area, so call ahead if you need step-free access or special seating.

For live music and atmosphere, evenings, especially nights with jazz or blues performances and pre/post Vicar Street gig times, are the best. Guests love the lively nights and musical program. If you prefer a quieter meal, aim for weekday lunchtimes or earlier evening sittings when it’s less crowded. Either way, busy music nights fill up fast, so book ahead.

Warm, authentic and lively, Arthur’s feels like a classic Dublin pub with character. Guests repeatedly mention a cosy turf fire, friendly and humorous staff, energetic live music and a buzzy crowd. It’s both tourist-friendly (near Guinness Storehouse) and local, making for a welcoming, sociable atmosphere that’s great for music nights, pre-gig meals and relaxed dinners.

Business casual is the stated dress code. In practice guests wear relaxed pub and smart-casual clothes, you’ll fit in whether you’re dressed up for a night out or in comfortable attire for a live-music evening. If you’re attending a special event upstairs, a slightly smarter look is appropriate.

Yes, the team accepts bookings and guests have had celebration notes accommodated (for example surprise treats). If you have seating preferences, allergies or accessibility needs, call the pub ahead to confirm; some guests reported mixed experiences with last-minute menu changes, so it’s best to confirm details in advance to ensure staff can meet your request.

Yes, families regularly dine here and guests report children and teens are welcome. The menu focuses on traditional Irish mains rather than a dedicated kids’ menu, and some guests noted limited chicken options for picky eaters. For younger children consider an earlier reservation and mention any menu needs when booking so staff can help.

Busiest: evenings with live jazz/blues and nights around nearby Vicar Street gigs, these sittings fill up fast. Quietest: weekday lunchtimes and early weekday evenings tend to be calmer, making them better if you prefer a relaxed meal. Guests commonly recommend booking for evening music nights and aiming for earlier times for a quieter experience.

Weekends and evenings with scheduled jazz or blues acts offer the most lively atmosphere and live-music experiences, great for a fun night out. If you prefer a relaxed meal without the crowd, midweek (Mon–Thu) lunchtimes or early evenings are quieter. Check the pub’s events listing or call to see which nights have live performances.

Yes, Arthur’s is dog-friendly according to guest reports, so many guests bring dogs and treat them as part of the outing. For service animals, standard practice is to allow them; if you have a specific need or an emotional support animal, call ahead to confirm arrangements and any seating restrictions (especially for upstairs dining during busy music nights).
