I generally review places on an additional metric—how friendly they are to single diners. The best spots don’t care whether they portray themselves as romantic spots, hangout venues, or casual dining and treat you well regardless. Unfortunately this place didn’t. Walk in: no host stand at the entrance; you stand awkwardly halfway between bar and sitting area. They let me stand there for a solid few minutes with multiple staff members making eye contact them going about their business. Eventually one asked “Are you okay?” What kind of greeting is that? Do they believe singles don’t belong there? Did they not read their own reservations list so they would be aware of the parties arriving? Mind you, their comptoir seats 3-4 aka potentially an odd number and a high likelihood of singles or at least non-traditional couples reservations. Sit down: did it get better here? No, not really. I was awkwardly told to stand by the door despite the comptoir area being ready for seating. Then once sat after I had ordered a cocktail I was patronizing my asked if I knew I’d signed up for the wine/cocktail pairing menu. The staff didn’t speak to me at all besides that until dinner service. They sat a couple and the bartender chatted with them amicably and even joked around a bit. Dinner: food itself was thought-out. As dinner progressed the staff seemed to get more comfortable talking to me, which felt totally backward from what it should be. The couple I was sat next to engage with me openly and we had a great time talking. We kind of felt that the staff wasn’t keeping tabs on when people left to use the restroom or needed a pause in courses so some courses were left to go cold as people didn’t eat for one reason or another. Overall: staff experience was poor. I dine by myself often and this was by far one of my worst ones in fine dining. Dining alone is a sign someone is there for the food and likely for staff interaction. Might be back, but hope for better next time.

Dear Silas, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I’m truly sorry to read that your experience did not meet your expectations. We take all guest feedback very seriously, especially when it falls short of the level of warmth and hospitality we strive to deliver to every guest. Your comments have been shared internally with our team, and we sincerely appreciate your honesty and thoughtful perspective. If you would be open to it, I would welcome a brief phone call at your convenience. Alternatively, I would be just as happy to continue the conversation via email — whichever you prefer. Thank you again for your feedback, and I sincerely apologize that we did not provide the level of experience you were expecting. Warm regards, Aude Fraisse Bar Manager

Fantastic experience. Unique, delicious cocktails. Beautiful atmosphere, the vinyls playing and Crenn family photos on display created a really intimate vibe. Very friendly staff. Felt upscale and accessible at the same time.

Amazing decor, great music, super cocktails and delicious bites but our experience was ruined because the whole place smelled of fried oil. It was almost unbearable. They need to fix their ventilation system. Unacceptable for the type of venue they want to be.

The space is both beautifully designed & comfortable. I really enjoyed the cocktail flavor combinations, especially the salted coffee in the Gospel off their signature cocktail menu. The food was visually pleasing & delicious. The shallot flavor in the olives wowed me, I think I’ll have dreams about the crispy potatoes with spicy aioli, & the pretzel bread with cheese dip was a table favorite. And all the miniature edible flowers scattered throughout the dishes was such a visual treat. Thank you Bar Crenn!

FAQs

Yes, Bar Crenn is a very popular choice for a special date night. The space is intimate and stylish, with a plush, crescent-shaped bar and lounge seating that pairs perfectly with carefully crafted cocktails and shareable small plates. Consider booking a reservation (smart casual dress) and arriving early for a slightly quieter experience; note some guests mentioned strict time limits on reservations, so confirm timing when you book.

Portions at Bar Crenn are small and designed for sharing or tasting, expect cocktail-friendly bites and refined small plates. Guests frequently describe two-piece items (like scallop tacos and lobster roll portions) and bar-style nibbles, so plan to order several plates or try the Le Comptoir omakase if you want a fuller tasting experience.

Bar Crenn is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. If you’re planning a visit on a holiday or want an early/late seating, call ahead or check the restaurant’s website for special hours.

For a quieter experience, opt for an earlier seating on a weekday (Tuesday–Thursday). If you want a lively, late-night vibe with energetic music and a packed bar, choose Friday or Saturday evenings. Also be aware some guests noted loud music on busier nights and strict reservation time limits.

The atmosphere is elegant yet lively, plush, nouveau-retro decor with a sultry, upscale bar vibe. Guests praise the sophisticated cocktails, attentive service, and visual presentation of dishes. Note the music can be energetic (hip-hop/rap or curated playlists) on busier nights, which contributes to a vibrant but sometimes loud environment.

Smart casual is the dress code. Guests typically dress up a bit for the intimate, elegant setting, think polished, comfortable attire suitable for a special night out.

Yes, staff are generally accommodating with reservations and changes (guests have reported helpful hosts). If you have dietary needs, seating preferences, or want to inquire about timing or private space, call ahead so the team can confirm availability and accommodate your request.

Bar Crenn is primarily an adult-oriented, cocktail-forward destination with small, shareable plates and a lively bar atmosphere. While some guests visit for special occasions, the intimate setting, late-night vibe, and small portion sizes mean it’s not especially geared toward young children.

Busiest: Friday and Saturday evenings and late-night hours, when the bar vibe and music are more energetic. Quietest: earlier weeknights or earlier evening seatings (Tuesday–Thursday) tend to be calmer and better for conversation.

If you want a lively, late-night vibe, Friday or Saturday is ideal. For a quieter, more conversational evening, choose an early weekday seating (Tuesday–Thursday). Because the venue is closed Sunday–Monday, plan your visit within the Tue–Sat window.

Bar Crenn is led by Chef Dominique Crenn, the bar and dining concepts unite her gastronomic approach with a dedicated mixology team. The experience highlights Chef Crenn’s culinary vision alongside crafted cocktails.

Yes, Bar Crenn accepts private parties. If you’re planning a private event or group booking, contact the restaurant directly to discuss availability, capacity, and menu options.

Yes, Bar Crenn has received multiple MICHELIN recognitions, including MICHELIN 1 Star (2023–2025) and MICHELIN Green awards (2023–2025). These honors reflect the restaurant’s culinary and sustainability achievements.
