Great local menu that changes all of the time. I'll definitely be back!
Great service and food. Love this place
Delicious food in a non-pretentious atmosphere. Not inexpensive but excellent.
Very unusual food selection, out of the regular fare of other LA restaurants, a very welcome selection. Great wine selection at reasonable prices.
The food was exceptional, especially the soft shell crab in green curry sauce. I would not recommend sitting at the bar. That was my mistake. Not appetizing to have boxing on while you are eating. Noise level in Baran’s is quite loud. It is a small room, and because it is so good, it is very busy all the time. Great for foodies, not so great for intimate dinner. Leave room for the Coffee Toffee Pudding.( Yummmmmm)
It was absolutely amazing! Everything we ordered, the wine selection... on point!
Our 1st time at this restaurant and it won’t be our last. Pros: Food is innovative and delicious. Dishes are busy w/lots of ingredients working together in harmony. They are great abt leaving out anything you’re sensitive to. Cons: Restaurant is very small and loud so not the best for intimate conversation.
Overall we really enjoyed it.
Love this place, the soft shell crab was amazing. The butter bundt cake is a must order!
OMG! My husband and I simultaneously thought this is as great as Chez Panisse!!!! We’ll be back!!
Amazing food and service as always!
I’ve been coming to Barran’s since they opened, it’s always a special experience.
Loved, loved this restaurant. The food was spectacular, service great! Nightly recommend!
Great first time experience. Everything is explained and you need it. Everything is delicious and you don't want to miss a thing. Can't wait to return for another amazing meal
I love introducing my friends to a new dining experience and Baran’s never disappoints!
The Blue Nose Sea Bass was a new item on the menu this go around - excellent! I also shared some of my favs: focaccia, Indian Egg, and the smoked and fried chicken. I am NOT a butter cake fan because it’s usually way too sweet for me, but last night had the opportunity to try it here. Wow! Going forward, it’s going to be a tough choice to order either that or the coffee toffee dessert!
The dishes are ALWAYS creative with amazing flavors blended together for a perfect bite, every bite! It’s like a little explosion of heaven in your mouth!
Being on East Coast time, I was there on Sunday just as they opened. Jason was behind the bar (where I sat) so we had a lovely conversation and upon his recommendation, I had the brussel sprouts salad - he said they would gladly box up what I didn't eat so I could fully enjoy the gnocchi with crabmeat. I ate about 1/3 of the salad and was so glad because the gnocchi was, as we say in the South, scrumptious. The remains of the salad became dinner last night. I must admit to adding a bit of Stilton cheese which didn't hurt it a bit! In just two years, the Baran boys have nailed it!
Amazing food and service
Wonderful gluten free options. Fried chicken and soft shell crab are amazing!
Outstanding!! Each dish was better than the one before it!! Highly recommend for a nice date night! We will definitely be back 😋😋
Some of the most creative and delicious food I’ve ever had!
Best food in the South Bay!
The restaurant is a charm that we have been too a few times now. The space is small but the team makes it work. The food is delicious; every bite has a great flavor to it.
Consistently delicious. Fabulous chef.
Great stop. Love eating here where people really care about the food!
We hadn't been to Baran's in a while and it was just as fantastic as we remembered. We sat at the bar and had incredible service from the owner and every member of the wait staff. We started off with cheese and charcuterie which was very plentiful and presented beautifully. Then we ordered about 5 different items from the menu ranging from the shaved brussels sprout salad (fantastic!) to the Indian egg (so innovative!) to the Squid Ink Gnocci with King Crab (seriously decadent... more crab than gnocci on the plate!). We paired our dishes with wines by the glass, each of us ordering a different wine so we could taste eachother's. It was an amazing meal that left us excited to return soon!
As always, the food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, always a wonderful experience! Thank you to the Barans.
This is a neighborhood gem. It's small, intimate and the service and food is exceptional. I have been many times and have never been disappointed. The smoked friend chicken is amazing and my favorite the Indian Egg is so delicious. You can always find something new along with the favorites on the menu. Their wine list is very good but I usually bring a special bottle of my own. The corkage is $25 for the first bottle which I'm more than happy to pay. Must say since I'm a wine lover I do appreciate their good wine glasses!
I would say it's be best food in the South Bay, they really respect the food and it shows in all of their dishes.
So much good food with wonderful staff and friends!
birthday dinner. great food. pricey. noisy.
highly recommend baran’s! food and service were great. the king fish ceviche and rigatoni were the best. make sure you make a reservation in advance because it gets full!
We love this restaurant and it is our favorite in our neighborhood. The staff are professional and friendly, the food is creative and delicious and the ambiance is cosy and upbeat.
The food is creative and delicious. The service is excellent. However, the noise level is way to high. It's not easy to have a conversation without shouting.
It had been a couple of years since we’ve been, the food was spot on !
Another enjoyable experience at this very unique and hip bistro. Attentive friendly knowledgeable service. All the dishes ordered were spot on. The Ceviche is my favorite. Fried chicken was delcious. I'll be back soon guys. One of my favorite restaurants!
Not our fav food . Too many layers of flavors. We like cleaner food
Big fan of the small plate format, 4 with their house made focaccia and umami butter was good for the 2 of us. Favorite was the shaved Brussels sprout salad with dates, radicchio and hazelnuts.
Sat at the bar and we were very well tended by owner Jon Baran.
Not often in Hermosa Beach, but will definitely eat here if we are.
The mains were very good. The side vegetables were mediocre.
We will come back and explain how improve the vegetables cooking.
Overall a positive experience.
Small plates were very good to excellent and we liked the choreography. The plates were delivered to the table one at a time and evenly spaced instead of coming out all at once. Some portions were more generous than others but overall adequate except for the price, especially the seafood. For example, the price of 3 scallops at Baran's is equivalent to a full entree size at high-end restaurants. My husband and I generally avoid small plate menus because these meals end up considerably more expensive. I hear this complaint from people all the time. I also take issue with the price of the wine, a complaint not directed only at Baran's. A six ounce pour for $14-$18 is absurd. Why even bother with a a 3 ounce pour for $3 less? Two sips and the glass is empty. Everyone in our group of four drank one glass, which added almost $70 to our bill. This is clearly price gauging, pure and simple.
Wait staff was super attentive, food was generous portions and all were very tasty. The pace of the service and food delivery were excellent!
Every single dish is amazing! Great service too! We had the halibut, shrimp tostada, shaved brussel sprouts and red kale along with a few bottles of wine. Dishes are meant to be shared. One of my favorite restaurants in South Bay
Food and service were excellent. Highly recommend.
