My 2nd time going. Food was delicious, although for the price, I don't know how often I would choose to go here. Our server was wonderful and gave great recommendations.

Great service and atmosphere. Tasting menu is too expensive! I’d love to try it out but it’s outrageously expensive.

The food was outstanding and service was just as good! Cocktails were yummy (fun names) and we were treated with an amuse bouche. The owner was lovely. I loved the mussels, and I had the lamb as a main course. I highly recommend the lamb!! Great date spot too:)

Still fantastic after all these years. Dinner is not the value that lunch provides but consistently high quality food and interesting options. We will continue to come back regularly.

I wanted to like this place, but the menu was limited and outdated. It didn’t live to the hype.

Superb experience.
Food was extraordinary. The mains of black cod and duck are to die for.
The deserts are simply superb.
The choice of wine Riesling Poets Leap went very well.

We arrived shortly before our reservation time of 8pm. We were greeted and escorted to two open seats at the bar. Bartenders were very friendly and professional. Enjoyed the “Trust Us” beverage which was a mojito made with sherry. Host cane to let us know our table was ready. Service was timely. My only complaint was that I had a hard time hearing our server because it was loud in there. This didn’t bother me much because everyone was truly enjoying themselves and we were excited to try some dishes. Everyone was very polite and smiling. We had the mussels, duck, pork belly and fantastic desserts and coffee. The food was fresh and well balanced. Next time we will try the tasting menu. Our neighboring table seemed to enjoy it! Overall wonderful experience. Flavors were amazing. So good!

This was my 3rd visit to Blackbird over the last 8 or so years, and I've never been disappointed. This visit I had the tasting menu ($145) and opted to forego a cocktail from an interesting list and get the wine pairing ($75) instead. Everything was 5-star, except I gave 3 stars for 'value.' A bill of $309. for one person is high, and I don't know quite how to put a value on the experience, which was extraordinary in every way. I'm not complaining about the cost, I just don't know how to assess it. Everything - the food (every mouthful exquisite), ambience (energetic rather than romantic), wine pairing and explanation of same - was exceptional, and I left extremely satisfied. It is a once- or twice- or maybe three-times-in-a-lifetime experience, but, for my money, worth it. An experience you'll never forget. Highly recommended!

When investigating tasting menus around Chicago, I had read that it was best to forego the tasting menu at Blackbird and go for the prix fixe 3-course lunch. We did and it was amazing - the food, wine and ambiance was all 5-star. It's a must go!

The highest level of fine cuisine, with outstanding service that is highly informed, engaging, warm, and welcoming. I requested a vegetarian tasting 48 hours in advance, and my meal was creative and delicious. I am especially delighted that there is a non-alcoholic cocktail menu of five different drinks. I have had them all, and they are all excellent, tasty and nuanced, and more than what you would throw together at home. You can come in elegant attire or business casual, and feel comfortable either way. You feel both celebratory and at ease, all at once.

Best tasting menu experience I have had since Charlie Trotter’s in 1989. Exquisite sequence with attention to flavor following flavor and texture balancing against the previous course. To get perfectly al dente pasta mid stream was genius. I would fly to Chicago just for this meal ...

We had an incredible dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. First off, I would like to thank the staff for accommodating a late reservation change and squeezing us in at the regular dining seating. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was extremely welcoming and attentive. The bartender was very friendly and we enjoyed talking about whiskeys and cognacs with him. He hooked us up with a little taste of the Pierre Fernand Renegade series spirit to tickle the tastebuds.

Once seated, I never had to pour my own water or wine. Every single staff member who passed by would refill our glasses if they saw an almost empty glass. We started off with the endive salad, a Blackbird classic. It was delightful! I could really just have two orders of that and call it good. The amuse bouche did just that! It was a delicious tempura squash blossom with a garlic aioli. For a main course, I had the top sirloin with beef tongue that melted in my mouth. It was perfectly cooked and tender. My wife had the pork belly, which for pork belly was a very generous portion and not full of fat. It was perfectly smoky and wonderfully paired with trout roe and black garlic. For dessert we had the lemon Paris-Brest, Baked Alaska, and White Russian ice cream. My favorite was the ice cream by far! The Baked Alaska was a great balance with the sweet char of the meringue, citrusy tang of the grapefruit, and nuttiness of the almond crust.

All around we thoroughly enjoyed our three hour dining experience. Every staff member was awesome. We will certainly be back!

Eating solo can be a frustrating experience where you feel rushed and ackward. But at Blackbird they let you be and serve you at the same pace as other guests. And given the great food, that IS what you want the most, a slow enjoyment of all the artistry that is paraded plate after bowl after papillote in front of you

A Chicago original, Blackbird appears to be surviving on its past reputation. Menu looked pretty good but the resulting food was mediocre at best yet expensive. Flavors were muddled. Cream sauces were overly heavy and sweet. Pork belly and fish were both over cooked. They need a new chef.
