Critically acclaimed Blackbird is home base for Executive Chef Paul Kahan, winner of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2013 and Best Chef of the Midwest in 2004. Chef de Cuisine Ryan Pfeiffer joined Kahan in the kitchen in 2015, and together they craft elegant and imaginative Midwestern cuisine, showcasing farm-fresh ingredients to create a menu both classic and utterly approachable. Managing Partner and Owner Donnie Madia and Architect Thomas Schlesser crafted a unique and timeless atmosphere in 1997, earning the James Beard Award for Best Restaurant Design and Best Restaurant Design Graphics in 2002.

So worthwhile.
Food was soooo good; we all shared bites and marveled at the tastes. The service was immaculate. Highly recommend!

We went to Band of Bohemia last night and were very disappointed! Blackbird restored our faith in Michelin ratings after last night.

We tried the seasonal menu, which was absolutely wonderful. Besides the selection and variety of food included in this offering, we especially enjoyed having a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience for several hours...which is almost unheard of in today’s generally rushed dining experience. It was a very enjoyable evening!

I think your hood needs a repair! We all left stinking of oil for the rest of the day and our coats still smelled the next day. Service was way off from normal.

Whie the old descriptor "never had a bad one" could apply, it'd be more accurate to state that we've "never had anything but an exceptional one" when it comes to lunch at Blackbird. As always, everything was great!

It did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was one of the most fun/ delicious nights my wife and I shared together. We went for her birthday on a Wednesday and cannot wait to go back

the food was delicious! we went with the prix three. I had the Shrimp Confit as an appetizer and it was delicious. My main entree was the Chicken Sausage and it was everything. Definitely visiting again soon! Blackbird never disappoints.

This is simply one of the best in Chicago -- for nearly 2 decades it has been the standard. We could not love it more every time we go -- but Monday night was something very, very special. Thanks to everyone at Blackbird!

As a solo diner, I really appreciated that I could book a bar seat reservation. Then, the experience did not disappoint. The tasting menu was phenomenal, with mostly "wow" dishes and only a few less-than-stand out bites. (And certainly zero "duds.") The wine pairing was equally thought out and fun. Service was great and overall, very, very happy with this experience.

This was my third time dining here, and it seems to have lost its luster. The food was good, but parts of various dishes were overpowering and out of balance. Cocktails and desert were bright spots. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

This was a great meal. The food was experimental: Douglass Fir ice cream, beef tongue "bacon," aged beef tartare. But not so experimental as to put off those who are less adventurous. And like always, everything was delicious.

We enjoyed seasonal cocktails and the customized vegetarian/Pescatarian entrees.
Our host George was very helpful during the drinks/dinner.

fantastic for an anniversary dinner! (maybe a bit too expensive for a normal night out)

great service from our waiter and bartender and all the food was outstanding.

several perks for our anniversary which was a huge plus and the whole staff wished us well! very pleasant evening

Excellent attentive service. The craft cocktails were outstanding and the duck was the best I've ever had. This was a birthday celebration dinner and Blackbird acknowledged the occasion upon our arrival and at the end of the dinner presented a special complimentary dessert to the birthday girl.

The restaurant had great food and service, but the place was really crowded and cramped. It would have been nice to have a little more space between tables. The quality of the food and level of service was exceptional and more than made up for the space issue.

Blackbird has made an unfortunate choice, their prix fixe menu has been emphasized, and their ala carte menu has been forgotten. The range of choices on their ala carte menu was always modest, now it has been reduced to four starters and four entrees.

It was always a great choice for both a leisurely dinner lasting an entire evening or a great place to spend part of an evening on a weekend or a great dinner after work. Unfortunately, the trend is towards short fine dining meals, as opposed to lengthy evenings waiting for multiple course meals to be completed.

In other words, my guess is the Blackbird's days are numbered. It will no longer be our choice for the kind of evening we enjoyed last Friday.

One of the most accessible and affordable michelin star experiences around! Go for the lunch prix fixe with a friend or two if you want to sample a fair portion of the menu! Otherwise, the burger was unbelievable. Definitely will be back.

We had the fixe prix lunch menu. The staff were courteous enough to allow a substitution due to dietary preferences. They went out of their way to keep us pleased and comfortable on our anniversary lunch. Kudos to the staff. Will definitely be coming here again.

I arrived 15min early but was still seated swiftly, which was nice because I didn’t realize there wasn’t a large waiting area. I highly recommend this place for solo diners. The bartenders and wait staff were attentive where I didn’t feel the need to whip out my phone every 5min. The bartender recommended a drink based on my taste profile, that hit the nail on the head. None of the entrees stood out to me so I opted for a few appetizers and a cheese platter to finish. I loved the clean presentation of the food and the brief description before serving. Everything was easy to eat, which you dont always find in an upscale restaurant. Nothing was too fussy and the vessels everything was served in made sense. The food was so flavorful that I wish there was more per serving, but after letting my stomach and brain catch up after each dish I realized I was more full than expected. The selection of cheeses was concise but still had range. Bonus was that each cheese was described before ultimately choosing 1, 3 or 6. Definitely will be going back.

Lunch the day after Valentine's Day: it was nearly full and they were able to seat us before our reservation time. Gracious and friendly staff. A quick review by our waiter of the prix fixe lunch was thrilling. As usual, Blackbird's first courses were splendid, and the main course and desert were very good. Each time we have been there, the food has been wonderful, especially the appetizer or first course.
